in Rumours, Xperia Z1

wpid-13023811-b.jpgSome new pictures have surfaced on China’s telecoms certification authority,  think of it as the Chinese version of the United States FCC. The pictures from China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA) don’t show anything new.

Thanks Anurag and Ben!

    I want

  • Matt

A magnetic charger for the two charging pins would be awesome

  • Rizky Maulana

just waiting for mini version… :3

  • Izamanaick

I’m sort of mad that there isn’t an IR Blaster. There’s no reason not to include it. The first few leaked photos had it. The Japanese will most likely get it and the other 90% of the world will not. Great. Exclusivity FTW!…

  • Herman

    Nothing new, but man.
    It looks stunning!

Hoping to buy one once I got the money.

  • i’m gamer

    2012 : xperia s , xperia p ,xpera SL , xperia u … all the same design !
    2013 : xperia z , ZL , ZU … all the same design

SONY !! can you hear us ???? we need something new, somethings different . WE NEED XPERIA PLAY 2 …. WAKEUP

  • Izamanaick

Fuck off. I thought we got rid of you.

  • Kaloyan Stoychev

Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought this was a Z.

  • John Andrew Santiago

Aren’t you satisfied with the omnibalance design? It’s 100000% better than those Galaxy Soaps for f#cks sake!

Sony’s design is the best, next would be HTC’s One

  • Wafflefactory

  • John Andrew Santiago

Same :3 Hopefully my father can give me a second chance because my Xperia acro S got hard-bricked(mainboard) when I flashed a custom ROM, it’s only nearly 7 months old! My father told me that I must keep it for at least 1.5~2 years (I have unlocked bootloader so I think it’s impossible to send it to service center and it would cost a lot of money for repairing the mainboard)

I learned a lesson, and I really know that the Z1 Honami mini won’t need a custom ROM to run smooth, Sony’s software pretty much improved this year, so I bet everything will be properly optimized, and they are now choosing the best chipset for their phones! Hopefully the Honami Mini will feature the same S800 chipset or at least S600… Kudos! Sony!

  • Lawrence Ocsan

Atleast it looks better than the samsung all plastic design!

  • ehyd

    Ellie <3

Might use the same one as the Ultra

  • I’m Sony Fan

I love Sony’s design and believe they’re the best but agree @SONY !! can you hear us ???? we need something new, somethings different . WE NEED XPERIA PLAY 2 …. WAKEUP!

Yaeh I want Xperia Play 2 as well

  • karan

hey this is Honami Mini only, just look at the size and compare it with the previous leaks…. :D

Foolish me, replied to the wrong thread!

That’s why many people said sony fanboys are the worst, STUPID BIAS, BRAINLESS, NARROW MINDED and so MEAN

So Fanboys made Sony lag behind..

  • Billy de Fretes

    yep.. not bad but worse

  • Lucian

You can’t say XS, XP and XU had same design because these are all the same phones but differ in size. It’s like you would have mini version of one phone. XSL was just an upgraded version of XS.
But in 2012, if you don’t know, there were also a lot of Sony phones with totally different design language like XGO, Miro, Tipo, XT, XV, XJ.
In 2013 we have new Sony Omnibalance design which looks amazing.

I mean isn’t it enough if they change their design language once a year? What more do you want?

  • zerocools

If you think people here are mean you need to be more social.

  • Gandalf

LOL! I mean Sony fanboys behavior was so despicable

  • disqus_0KCC9NC0Rk

    that goes to you….

  • Lucian

Problem with Samsung is, that if you look at all their phones here: you will see that every phone and tablet has the same design language. I mean it’s good to stick to your own design language but not that much.
Companies like Sony or HTC also have their own design languages but they change it a bit from phone to phone or year to year. They keep it fresh and surprise their fans with something new.
Last year Sony surprised us all with NXT series and their transparent light bar. It was something new and had a “wow” factor. Then Bond phone came out and again something different. This year new Omnibalance design again something completely new.
Meanwhile Galaxy S3 came out and was almost the same as S2 just a bit rounded. Later Note 2, the same design as S3 but bigger. And this year, S4 was only a yawn for me in terms of design. Identical to S3 and Note 2. Note 3 will also be the same… Enough is enough.

  • pytajnik

there’s absolutely no way that the mini version of this will have the same specs

  • KinG

Don’t say samsung design or the plastic body, the new sony power button already wins all…^^

  • the_black_dragon

The worst kept secret ever :D

  • Arjaan Peree

It has almost the same design as the Z, but the holes for the charging dock are on a different place. Why can’t they standardize a bit so that more accessories will fit different phones. Now I have to buy a new dock and car holder again..

  • x-periance

Actually that guy bashing samsung names… And you bashing a person who love sony brands. I think ur the worse cause u insulting a person rather then a brands.

  • kaostheory

Mine is on the left side, the side I hold, and always in the way. Another problem is nothing made by Sony works well with other Sony equipment. What’s up with that? I want their new 420 watt boom box but it’s made more for ipod. Apple is always behind on new technology but they really know how to keep things consistent. I know that last sentence is a bit of an oxymoron but Sony needs to find some middle ground.

  • Yedz Odd

Maybe we can wait for official announcement for confirmation, as example the ir blaster on ZL cannot be seen

  • Babylonbwoy

Hey people if you own the wifi xperia tablet z the 4.2.2 is rolling out !

  • Babylonbwoy

almost all these leaks are organized, if not all…

  • Pointingout

It still has the Camera Details written back near camera, so Sony just removed during advertisement.

  • boosook

I agree with you, yet people seem not to care… Samsung’s sales are astounding and growing…

  • Xyor

  • Ayman F. Herzallah

    again, it’s quite thick!

  • Babylonbwoy

What I like in this Honami is that the glass exceeds the frame. Also looks like the glass is surrounded by a kind of joint or seal or whatever is the name. All these will fix the water resistance accidents that some had with the XZ.

Everyday something new and more excitement!

  • owl

i’m thinking along the same lines. if they just release the leaks every now and then to keep the hype up and release the phone for purchasing not long after the announcement, they could potentially have a big winner.

remember Xperia X1? the hype was so great upon announcement but we had to wait over half a year to get it. hope this will not be a repeat.

  • owl

I agree! the 2011, 2012, and 2012 lines are easily distinguishable. it’s not like you’re gonna buy all the phones in the same year series anyway. by the time you’re migrating to a new handset, the design would’ve significantly changed, quite unlike certain unnamed manufacturers’ designs. OK fine I name one – Porsche.

  • owl

They do look quite identical. Given the proximity of the release dates of the two handsets, there’s a good chance they’re cross compatible?

  • owl

if the mini is slightly (say, 2mm) thicker, i don’t see why not.

  • Lucian

There are many factors in Samsung’s sells.
First, they know how to sell features. How to promote their products and make people believe that they need them, that their life will be better with them.
Second, they over-flood the market with different models. in 2013 they already have 23 different phones (not including different variants). Sony has 7, just for comparison. And Samsung phones are available to buy everywhere around the world.
Third, they make a lot of different variants of phones (too much if you ask me) and keep that phone alive. When Galaxy S2 didn’t sell any more they made S2 with NFC and when that was passé they made S2 Plus, and there are also S2 4G, S2 HD, S2 X and a lot more for all different carriers. And with that they sell S2 even today while other phones are out of market in one year.
Fourth, they know how to sell low-end phones for high-end price. Best examples are “mini” variants. I have seen plenty of people that bought S3 mini and S4 mini just because of the name. They don’t know anything about technology so based on their name they assumed that it’s the best package in smaller size. But as we all know “mini” variants like S4 mini and HTC One mini are basically low-end spec phone with really high price. I mean there is only 40€ difference between S4 mini and Sony Xperia ZR but difference in specs is huge.
Fifth, commercials and sponsorships. Commercials between super bowl are 100% hit and 0% miss. Then, shows like X factor, that had them as sponsors gave all their contestants Samsung phones and tablets and they were always promoting them. Contestants recording videos and uploading to Youtube and Twitter and praise Samsung also boosts sales.
And lastly, hype on Internet. When something new is expected from Samsung everyone gets crazy. On every tech website all you can see is Samsung, Samsung, Samsung… I remember when Sony Xperia Z came out there were on one tech website only 2 or 3 articles about it, but when S4 came there were 20. Basically every feature of phone had it’s own article.
This are, in my opinion, the biggest factors that made Samsung top seller of phones.
But watch out, Sony’s phone sales are growing from month to month, if their strategy will be good in future like it is this year they will soon become one of the best sellers.

  • Lucian

Bigger camera sensor and bigger battery. That’s the price we have to pay :p

  • Babylonbwoy

I think that we can be sure that it will be out in november just like last year the XT, PS4 and Honami in november just in time for christmas/new year, it will be a winner combo no doubt about that.

I came late on Android so I don’t know how it was when X1 came out, but in only one year – since the new One Sony reorganisation and focus on mobile that began in april 2012 – there was a lots improvement at Sony, and it is just the beginning, well I hope so!

  • Cristi13

I agree to some of your points. First of all, like you said samsung is available pretty much everywhere, which is a good thing that they get phones into the hands of many users. They are marketing a lot and i don’t see what’s the problem, that’s what marketing is for, to promote your product, some people act like samsung should stop marketing all together. They release a lot of phones, yes, but you will never see them in the same place (like in stores,i see a variety of phones, but only a few from samsung), all these models aand variations are for all those many and different markets they are in, plus they don’t force anybody to buy them. It’s also the fact they give their phones better support, despite having more phones. When it comes with those minis versions, people buy them in general because of their price, only we, the tech guys said that they should have the same specs, but it is not true. I do agree that samsung need to change their designs, i don’t have anything with plastic but i don’t like the glossy one, matte would be perfect.

  • Tardar Sauce

I think that they succeded at keeping the hype… I don’t remember the last time I was so excited waiting for a phone to come out… I believe that my friends think that I lost my mind :D I’m checking the news related to Honami every day… but I’m scared that this will have a negative effect since I have a huge expectations right now… I hope that this phone won’t be a fail… I will sure be a high improvement for me, cause now I have 3 years old X10i, so jumping from single core 1 GHz to quad core 2.2 GHz and from 2.3.3 to 4.2.2 is a huge improvement ;)

  • Lucian

Every phone company should have priority to make phones available everywhere.
Marketing is the most important thing to have.
“They release a lot of phones, yes, but you will never see them in the same place” My operator has 8 phones from Sony and 19 from Samsung. From one online store here, there are 7 Sony phones and 35 Samsung. So they are everywhere, at least here.
Different variations for different operators are good, because you cover more market with them. What I meant but forgot to wrote are different variations like S4 with Qualcomm, S4 with Exynos, S4 Active, S4 Zoom (which shouldn’t be even called S4), S4 LTE-A and there will probably be S4 with Snapdragon 800.
Well, yes, they buy mini versions for their price but you must agree that they are overpriced for at least 100€. LG Optimus G is the same price as S4 mini. I mean Oppo Find 5 is 429€ 32GB version which is 50€ less. Nexus 4 is cheaper. There are plenty of much much better phones for less money than some mini version. They really make money just by using name S4 and mislead people into buying them for that big price.

  • 3rdflyleaf

You stated in you post that Sony changed the design… What’s your point?

  • 3rdflyleaf

Yes. Samsung is really great at marketing. In my country Sony is making a second place in the name of Android Smartphone, Samsung being the first. I actually enjoy Sony not being popular because I love the fact that I have the most beautiful and unique phone in town.

  • 3rdflyleaf

  • forest

    No threads here, just comments.

  • kidsthesedays

    Ungrateful kid.

  • lUl

I don’t like the black version. If I buy Z1 I’ll get the white one.

  • Never heard of iPhone 5S and 5C do you? :>

  • techkiller-vj

He means new device, new kind of smartphone, which different from others, he want Xperia Play 2. I think this is his point.

  • [A]dri[A]n

They’re not bad, they’re just too similar to one another. Besides, Samsung’s sales aren’t because of design, they’re because of great marking, software and the features it provides. I’ll take a Sony phone with a nice design over a Samsung with all those features, which I personally believe are useless. That’s just my opinion though. To each their own.

  • Musadiqkhan
  • Cristi13

I have a xperia s, only designs are very good with sony, the rest is meh.

  • Cristi13

First of all, i was talking about the operator exposing all of them in the shops, because there i can see only a few. I know that online are many. Now about the s4, the qualcomm and exynos i can understand, the active i also understand, even the mini, but yes, the zoom really doesn’t belong to the s4 name, should had been only zoom. Other manufacters are also bringing out mini variants, like htc, which htc mini is even more overpriced than the s4 mini and it’s almost the same size as the real one lol. Also sony is not really that good (usually the name helps them sell), i’ve been with them for years and my last phone from them is xperia s, a disaster (compared to others) and from what I’ve seen the newer ones are also a disappointment (except the ultra, maybe). Anyway, just out of curiosity, from what country are you from and what phone do you have? :)

  • Lucian

Exynos was just a test and in my opinion it wasn’t necessary. General performance is not that much better than Qualcomm and battery life is much worse than qualcomm. And it fails even more compared to Snapdragon 800. S4 active shouldn’t exist, there should be only S4 with waterproof and shockproof. In my mind this only boosts sales. And now you have one phone that has all.
Yes, every phone called mini is just making money on big brothers name.
Well Sony did a big step becoming one, merging two companies and moving from one to another. They are growing and will grow, they have money now, they got profit this year. Last year there were phones like XS that were basically competing to 2011 line-up but nevertheless they were still good. There were problems with updates because of their merge and two divisions working on them but updates are getting much better.
With upcoming Honami or Z1 and Z1i (??) they are really going the right way. I wouldn’t say that every phone till now was disaster, they had some flaws (viewing angles, which for most people isn’t negative) but generally they still make really good phones.

  • John Andrew Santiago

Ungrateful? You know what I did? Studied hard at school… I live in a sctrict family you dawg… I always sleep late just to study -_- It’s hard to survive in school man… Studying hard is a way of showing gratitude to your parents who works hard for you -_-

My father loves me because he knows I’m striving for a great future, that’s why he bought me a great phone. We are not rich, just middle class, so there’s a low percentage that he will buy me a new phone, now im stuck with my old Sony ericsson… Wanna get any cool stuff in my family? STUDY HARD! P.S. I’m just 15 years old, from Philippines.

Let’s not argue about this anymore shouldn’t we? This is a tech site…
    Kbai have a nice day

  • Bob dole

    That’s what she said..

  • Sami Mrabet

You should´ve tought about that before you flashed it…

  • John Andrew Santiago

I’ve been flashing ROMs ever since, 2011 xD
I know how to do stuff… but the developer who made the ROM MADE A SINGLE LINE MISTAKE at the CWM zip scripts… that single line can cause a hard brick… forgot what it was… but it was something like “format /block mmclpbk05 bla bla bla”

  • Tardar Sauce

what is that thing between pins for dock?

  • HardyHarHar

Napoles didn’t strive hard yet he succeeded… until now of course :p

  • HardyHarHar

It’s still fixable though… I could have fixed it given I have the same device as yours. All you have to do is as somebody a dump of the specific partition, boot your phone to recovery and “dd” the dump into your phone. I’m not sure what’s mmcblk0p05 is on your phone but I’m sure it’s not that critical. The hardest brick you could get is overwriting TA partition which is located in mmcblk0p01 and it could still be fixed with a hardware *something*box haha sorry forgot the name.

  • John Andrew Santiago

I’m pretty sure this command did it:

    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0

    After that, BAM! Bricked…
