Xperia Z Ultra infographicSony has released an infographic showing how the Xperia Z Ultra has been put together and details some of the design considerations taken to create the “world’s slimmest Full HD smartphone,” according to Sony.

Takefumi Masuda, R&D Project Manager for the Xperia Z Ultra, has also given some insight into the thoughts behind creating Sony’s first phablet device. Discussions for a Sony Xperia smartphone larger than 5-inches started a year ago according to Masuda. If you are wondering why a display size of 6.44-inches was chosen, it was because the team wanted to limit the width of the handset to 91mm (the same as a passport).

As the Xperia Z Ultra used many custom parts on top of the main board, even a 6-inch model wouldn’t have worked due to the lack of space. Another challenge that Masuda and Sony’s engineers faced was making the Ultra very thin, but at the same time durable too. Hence the use of machine-cut aluminium panels, which helps the design stand out. The battery has the largest footprint inside the device but is only 3mm in thickness.

A copper sheet, around the thickness of a human hair, is used for heat dispersion and new film-based connectors were used to remove a layer of air. It’s a fascinating look into the Xperia Z Ultra, one of the nicest designs on the market today. Check out the infographic below.

Really stunning but i really wish Sony can solve their display power usage. Seems a lot higher than other manufacturer, even with Triluminos. sure it’s a great screen to look at, but a longer lasting battery life while watching the screen will be much better.

Innovation very right, we expect this from Sony!!! But how come they forgot about the flash?? It’s a high end product & competitors will be easy in this regard—- will loose many potential buyers-
