Xperia S keyboardA new build of the Xperia keyboard with version number 5.6.D.1.28 is currently rolling out to Sony Xperia S owners. The update mainly brings “software performance improvements“, with no other noticeable changes. We are not aware of it hitting other handsets, but if it has, let us know in the comments below.

Update: It also appears to be released for the Xperia P.

  • Jaya Sankar Yakkala

will there be any more updates to XS? can we fix that there wont be any OS upgrades since Qualcomm left XS users in the middle of ocean?

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

Xperia S? Sony, is it you?

  • Alex

A totally underwhelming update, but also the first ever update I have seen come into the Update Centre app…..shame it’s such a nothing-update and not some of the updated walkman or gallery apps!

  • Mohit Tambi

    Got It ;-)

  • Uchiha Dare Nial

Well shit Sony, release the 6.2.B.1.96 jellybean update for Xperia ion…it is still full of shitty bug in 6.2.B.0.211 update

I think buying Xperia s was my biggest mistake, just after few months my phones display start going blank and dark I became helpless and Sony service cntre replaced this faulty screen by New one but just few after days it again startEd to show the same thing…….

I think I will have to finally Say sorry to Sony as I was thinking about buying Xperia z1 but Xperia s has disappointed me so by sony.

  • Sand

  • SaS

  • luigi

The bootloader of my phone is unlocked so is it safe to update?

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

I’m now using Z1 and ZL, but my previous XPeria S is really beloved phone! Great display, (better than on Z, especially under direct sunlight), great camera, superior design and very strong bodycase.

  • the_black_dragon

It is just an App Update not an Firmware Update. So if you are on Stock Rom you can download it

  • Aneesh

Just received my Xperia p also but not updating. Continuously seeing pending network. What’s this.

  • ghng

This small keyboard update means that will be no future updates for XS and XP :(

  • Deki

I was shocked too! But, this is positive…

  • Ling Pin

    Acro S no news.

  • Martin Ambre

    hmmm nothing for us …

  • Deki

I’m very happy with my Xperia S. I use it for everything! Talking, Camera, Email, maintaining my websites, playing games, recording videos… The last update was really awesome and fixed many bugs!

The only problem is that everybody is using flashtool to flash it then they are facing problems.

I really want further updates and I’m really looking forward to it… Cheers!

the update appeared on my xperia s but not the meeting over to install ….

  • electrash

    Sony it will rain tomorrow.

  • Ujjobbágy Attila

It will install only on wifi network.

  • Jaissal S

I still haven’t received the latest build update for my Xperia S. I am using Xperia Z1 now, but am selling my S. Still want to keep it up to date before it sells though.

  • Sand

  • ShinOrochiX

An update just before Sony announce which phones will be getting Kit-Kat…
I wonder what Sony is up to…

  • x-periance

So do miss their first flagship afterall… Keep it up sony.

  • Vitali

    I don’t have the update… wierd..

  • aligamz

After being an Xperia S owner for almost a year and a half now, and being aware of the Sony Mobile scene through all this time, it’s become clear to me that Sony may have impressive and attractive hardware….but just can’t get a damn thing right software-wise. Speaking of my experience with the Xperia S, it’s unbelievable that I had to wait for more than a year to get a stable and usable Android build (6.2.B.1.96), the previous builds being plagued with silly and annoying bugs. The whole Xperia range suffers from similar things on the software side.
One of the most marketed features of the Z family, their cameras, aren’t on par with other high-end phones like the Lumia and Galaxy S families, or even the iPhones. I don’t understand how Samsung and Apple, using Sony-branded sensors, can get better imaging results than Sony. About the Xperia S….sure, it’s no Z, and it’s a two-year-old phone already, but it’s camera is just crap. I’ve found myself many times wanting to take a quick photo, but the camera app takes ages to launch. Plus, it struggles to focus properly and, if in low-light conditions, I end up seeing nothing.
I’m happy that my year-and-a-half contract has ended, I just can’t wait to get rid of my Xperia S. I’m switching brands, and I don’t want to know a thing about Xperias again, at least for the time being, or until Sony gets it shit right. So long, Sony and Sony fans, and thanks for all the fish.

  • 3rdflyleaf

“Software performance improvements” LOL! I don’t even had a problem with the keyboard and yet Sony gave an update for it? WHy not ALbum, Walkman app??
Release an update for just newer models so average Joe will think of just buying a new phone. :Sony’s strategy:

I won’t be seeing this app update, because I sold my Xperia S already.
And now I can’t decide which phone to buy. Why are you doing this Sony? :'(

I wonder why Sony release an update just before They announce which phones will be getting Kit-Kat.

  • shayan gozarabadi

    i got it in iran..

  • Utsav Shah

    Nothing on the Ion :/

Anyone knows where I can get the xperia keyboard APK file for unrooted devices?

  • Inquisitive

    sign this petition to qualcomm

Qualcomm decided to stop any further Snapdragon S3 chipset support&development and not to make kernel updates to provide compability for Android 4.2.2 and newer.

  • Mohammed Khired

i have hard times with the stock keyboard…maybe this will fix it

  • 3rdflyleaf

  • acutbal

Not really, only 18 months. See GalaxyNexusgate…

  • surya

I am not happy with this update.we want 4.3 version for xperia s users sony

  • Naeem hojaij

Well, having this update means that the development team still think of us
Looking forward to recive android 4.4 :”)

  • Mrc

About time! The new version definitely seems to have added a vast improvement. The keyboard was mostly unusable previously. Now it’s smooth.

  • Mrc

Not underwhelming for me at all – my keyboard was just about useless. Type word. Wait for line to appear. Wait for word. Type next word. Oh, it didn’t get my gesture because it was doing something – delete and type again. Really horribly unusable (also in normal input mode). Now it’s pretty good! Smooth and no issues yet.

  • Lahoo

    Can install on xperia go?

  • Targo

I hope for some BIG firmware for Xperia S becouse there is will not be 4.3 or 4.4 for S !

  • Jeroen Van Antwerpen

it gave me problems now ! I did reset dictionnary, and now the freakin autocorrect corrects me wrong ! if I want to type a ‘G’ it’ll make a ‘H’ instead pffff fuckedup G
