Upcoming Xperia Z1 refresh and Z1 mini (D5503) benchmarked

by XB on 15th December 2013

in Rumours, Xperia Z1

Xperia Z1s AnTuTu benchmarkSony has kept a very tight lid on leaks recently, although what we do know at this stage is that a Xperia Z1 refresh (aka Z1s) and Xperia Z1 mini are very likely to make an appearance at CES 2014 in January. AnTuTu benchmarks of both devices have appeared showing that they won’t be short of power.

The Xperia Z1s scored 35,485 in a leak showing the top half of the handset, consistent with recent leaks of the device (headphone off centre, one port flap on the left side and front camera placement). The Xperia Z1 mini scored 34,193, which was previously confirmed with model number D5503. Good scores for both handsets, but given these scores have probably been achieved with pre-production firmware, they scores are likely to be even better on release.

  • Mike Gonzalez

and how that compares to current Z1??

  • josesl16

In http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/09/24/xperia-z1-breaks-record-score-in-antutu-benchmark/ , DoomLord managed to get almost 37k, although the average would probably be lower, somewhere around 34-35k.

  • Vhan Modders

Still confused, what the point of making this Z1S.

  • Brapi

WTH? Z1 refresh? it’s like sony gave it’s loyal customers who bought the Z1 a middle finger!

  • lon

Sony plsssss released the 4.3 jelly bean!!

  • raj

    That’s awesome SONY

  • Andrew Wang

we got that kind of “middle finger feel” when they release Z1 after Z within the same year. T3T

  • Uchiha Dare Nial

Still better than Galaxy same phone with different variants

  • Yali AA

    That score is outdated.
I get 34743 with the latest firmware on STOCK and only removed bloatware.

  • dfghd

This is bullshit Sony.. A Z1 refresh? SMH

  • shah

actually the z1 refresh is for China market if not mistaken

  • shah

Come what may, i still want that z1 mini!!

  • xperiax10.awesome

This is ridiculous, I hope to see Nexus 6 with some premium looks, then will say GoodBye to Sony !!!

  • Brapi

If this were to be true then it would seem that it’s like arc and arc S. S and SL

Well in this case a refresh may prove that Z1 has a hardware problem. After I’ve read this article it’s like a huge middle finger was put right in front of my face!

  • Mhar Jayson Cortez

We want 4.3 updates plss. You promise to roll it out this month hope to have it before christmas. It will be the greatest gift we can have. MERRY CHRISTMAS SONY

  • SeaTHX

    My guess next Friday….?

  • M

    Bwahahaha!! Suffer rats!

  • Guest

I get about the same score with my Z1

  • doraemonboi

OMG, why Z1s… Should come out Z2 or something. Z1″Refresh” just sound so stupid.
However I am also not surprise since they come out with Arc and Arcs as a refresh.

  • iKushtyy

If all these android manufacturers start doing 6 month flagship refreshes, I’ll go back to iOS.. Spending £500 on a Z1 that’s obsolete in six months..

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

The refresh was much needed, as many devices have come to market ever since Z1. Specially the Nexus 5.

The refresh will help lower the price of the original Z1. ;)

  • doraemonboi

Admin, any news on the specs? I got a feeling it is similar to Z1 with just a better screen…

  • Mhar Jayson Cortez

    I hope so :))

  • Filipp

    Haha, they are really strange.
Great devices on s800 like Mi3 are scoring their 35000 without any problems
    Z1 is not
    what is the problem?

  • lon

    tomorrow? haha im just kidding

  • Utsav Shah

looks like a mediocre display again :(

  • Mhar Jayson Cortez

    Later :)) hahahaha LOL

  • Loveyoubaby

Stop releasing new phone after another!! Release the new OS instead!!

  • Utsav Shah

I want something like this :p

  • the_black_dragon

Where’s your Problem? Would it be different if they rename it and put it in a new case design?
I’m happy that they Keep their design line consinstent now! You can’t have the newest and fastest device forever! Deal with it!

  • Reynaldi Sutrisno

what is the different between Z1 and Z1s (refresh)?
Do they change display to IPS? :D

  • the_black_dragon

yeah of course. You can’t do anything anymore with your Device just because a new one Comes out… seems legit :)

  • xperiafan324

Correct, people here just love to bitch and moan, without the details though, so don’t expect any of the complaining to stop.

  • Jahan Khan Ward-Rashid

The Adverts on UK TV Say “The New Z1″………..for 3 weeks!!!

  • xperiafan324

Funny thing is that all these people would prefer to have the entire industry stunt its progress rate, just so they could feel good about their devices. smh

  • Christ
  • jangaleon

Isn’t the refreshed z1 suppose to be the t-mobile version of the z1?

  • asf

Ofcourse, but when a phone gets a “refresh” 4 months later it feels kinda shitty

  • sgf

You mean the Xperia S without the “led- strip”?

  • the_black_dragon

Why does it feel shitty? Can’t understand that.
btw where is the “refresh” on this device? Can’t see a difference exept the moved Audio Jack and even Performance is not much better (related to the Benchmark skore)… I already have 34200 Points in AnTuTu with my Z1… seems to be just Software optimizations because of Android 4.3/4.4

  • the_black_dragon

uhhh my Z1 only scores 34200… so bad… i should immediateley Change and by a Smartphone from a cheap Newcomer china-crap manufacturer :D
The Mi3 has an overclocked S800 and gets hot as hell! Keep that in mind! It runs at 2.3GHz instead of 2.15GHz and this makes the difference.

  • hatemenot

    waiting for xperia z ulta 2 :))

  • Felix

Those bezels… cannot unsee. And it’s not like they keep the phone from shattering easily too.

  • asf

Well it does feel shitty for me because a phone is a pretty big investment when you’re a student. Sure, the “refreshed” Z1 doesnt make the current Z1 a bad phone but it’s still frustrating to know that if I had waited a few more months I could have gotten a better version of it… But hey, this is just my opinion… Maybe you’re rich and buys a new phone every week?

  • xperiaDROID

It’s for pissing us Sony fans off.

  • nvier

Oh come on, I haven’t even had my Z1 for month yet, seriously?

  • Daniel Dorestant

Nobody’s forcing u to buy it

  • xperiaDROID

LMAO! A Xperia Z1 refresh. We’re waiting for the Xperia Z2, not a Xperia Z1 refresh, Sony. What can you refresh? A Snapdragon 805 processor, IPS screen, a new UI and that’s all. What’s the point of releasing a Xperia Z1 refresh? Just release the Xperia Z2.

  • the_black_dragon

I have no real work work and I’m doing 2 small Jobs to get some Money. So NO I’m not rich… And yeah if you wait some additional months you will even get an better phone and 2 or three months later the next better Phone. You just have to Change the manufacturer—
BTW who knows what parts of this Z1s is better?
Performance seems to be the same related to Benchmarks…
Size is the same if we believe the Pictures
    same materials
    just e repositioned Audio jack…

  • Persian User

    He means THAT BEZEL!

  • iKushtyy

Nah, just slow it down a bit.. At the speed the industry is moving at, there will be no more progress rate in 18 months.. I wish the manufacturers would focus on refinement at some point, not new useless features..

  • sgf

Your moms bezel is pretty huge

  • Heisenberg

Agreed. Waiting for Z1 mini. Also i’m suprised there are 2 new z1 version. Z1s (Refresh) and Z1 Mini? Wth?

  • xpz

Its not about to buying it, it’s about Sony pushing out phones faster making their recent phones obsolete even quicker

  • iKushtyy

No, eventually people will not want to waste money on a new flagship phone when it gets replaced in a few months.. Eventually it’ll become pointless to get the new flagship, because the flagship-2 will not even be a year old, and it’ll be a helluva lot cheaper.. Might aswell get the cheaper older phon.. Everyone slags of Apple for apparently sticking out too many new phones, but they only bring out 1or2 every year..

  • Persian User

Your nerves bezels are pretty narrow.
    I was joking dude…

  • Keon Fraites

Isn’t that what they did to us when they released the xperia Z1 just about 2-4 months after the xperia Z?

  • Daniel Dorestant

Obselete? My xperia Z is still chugging besides the fact that the Z1, and Z Ultra have been released.
I could understand if it was a model that was no longer supported… But Sony has confirmed all these phones are being upgraded to the latest android firmware

  • ryq24

Competition is tough. And as one study found out people get tired of their new phone after only a few months. And i think Xperia z1 is not doing as well as sony wants and they need a refresh asap.

  • Did@

Im w8ing for PS5 in February

  • Azam

    and little more reduced bezels..

  • roeshak

I think this Z1s is just going to be the Z1 with a slightly higher clocked cpu and probably the same display as on the Z ultra. Not sounding very promising at all.
May also include 3gb of ram.
Was hoping for improvements in imaging which is now looking unlikely. Does it still spot the same 5 inch 1080p display with huge bezels??
I think this phone will be under specced when compared to the S5 and others next year. Looks like Sony’s opted to launch its main offering in September.
If this is what they have to offer in H1 2014, then there’ll surely be another device released again in H2. You can be sure that the S5 will have the 805 cpu so if this doesn’t have something up its sleeve like a cracking camera, then it’ll be another year of easy pickings for Samsung.
Sony once again looks like it won’t have its main offering for 2014 ready until September again. Trouble is, the market is overcrowded at that time with the launch of the new iPhone, new nexus device, note4, and others.
To put it simply, I didn’t think the Z1 was worth the move from the Z, and I doubt very much that this Z1s will bring anything that changes that.
It’ll be very interesting to see how things pan out because I’m just not going to upgrade to this. No chance!

  • Did@

Yes our Z1 now is is old ( hitorical ) machine. tHX sONY

  • Utsav Shah

I love the Xperia™ S as i have had it in past.
And yea some elements are inspired by the S.

Or you can say a combination of S and ZL.

  • ZLIndia

    Its Zl

  • The God

fanboys still keep forward to lick sony balls while Sony is goin down each day. Plz guys listen and accept the truth, Sony is not the greatest and have so much things to improve.

  • heng

Are you sure? It is about more than 6 months, not only 2-4months.

  • AMG38

It’s all about giving the customer the feeling, that he has the “flagship” phone for at least 1 year. Sonys strategy isn’t small. Customers buy their flagship for ~600€, 6 month later, a refresh comes out, the older version is getting more cheaper than it “SHOULD” get. Of Course, you can’t always have the best device “forever”, but we’re not talking about “forever”, we’re talking about just 1 year. Think about it.

  • Amir

xperiablog knowledge is disappointing here. the phone in the big picture is NOT z1s. z1s is rumored to have thinner bezel (i guess like xperia z) and the one in the pic looks like z1 mini or some other phone, but not z1s.

  • Amir

can you manufacture 64 bit proccessor for sony? no. do you have wrgb oled or 2k display ready for mass production for sony to use? no. i can go on and on. please, don’t talk nonsense.

  • macrolol

    What about Xperia SP ?

  • Filipp

Please, prooflink about “hot as hell”?
Lol you have not held Xiaomi at all, I bet
But I have, and Mi2 defeated all Sonys in 2012
Mi3 still does not, but the price… What’s the use buying Sony for 700$, if I can buy Xiaomi for 400$ and get better software and some specs?

  • Filipp

One more thing, the first Xiaomi was launched in 2011, but the first sony smartphone in 2012)

  • what about it?

  • Are the Z1s that people bought all of sudden going to explode or something once the Z1s is released?

  • Rafael Hipólito

This Z1 refrash prob. won’t be released globally, more likely will be a local/operator version. Don’t worry guys, Sony will probably release the new flasgship in March 2014.

  • daviddang

not having the latest does NOT mean it’s obsolete. it’s not like your phone’s performance degraded just because a new one came out. i’m tired of people complaining about that

WTF. Did they just rip off that stupid cartoon font from Samsuck ??
    OMG Why sony ?

  • the_black_dragon

Yeah and the first Sony Ericsson Android Phone back in 2010 (Sony Ericsson was just renamed in Sony Mobile but the People behind it are the same) and the First Sony Ericsson Smartphone was the P800 back in 2003(!). The First Windows Mobile Smartphone was the Xperia X1 in 2009 ;)

  • phillipsun

i have been following sony xperia for quite a while, to be honest, its still the same pace as two years ago.ces show last year they had xperia s, then ifa show they had tx/t/v, ces this year, we had z, then ifa we had z1, next ces we will have z1s, so sony didnt quicken its new phone introduction.

  • the_black_dragon

The Mi3 has a fully clocked S800 2.3GHz BUT it has an overclocked Adreno 330 GPU with 533MHz (Clock Setting for Tablets) instead of 450MHz… there are just two possible outcomes… either it gets hot as hell especially during gaming or it will throttle down very fast so you can’t even use the power more than 5 minutes.
The S800 is not designed to work on that clock rates on Phones that are that thin.
and better Software is a Point of view… Of course sony has less Features in ist Software than Samsung, HTC, LG or MIUI but there is a large ecosystem from one of the biggest Entertainmend Companies out there. Everything just works flawelessly together.
I don’t say the Mi3 is a bad phone! It is a really nice Piece of Technology but the price sits in the Details!
Compare it with the Nexus 5. Same specs (Screen, CPU, Memory, Camera and so on and it costs the same or a Little less than the Mi3 but everybody knows that Google does not make Money with selling the Nexus devices.
btw you are from US right? Does the Mi3 sell there officially? It is not on european market at all so if i Import it and Need warranty suppor everything is massively complicated

Releasing a new model doesn’t make an older phone obsolete. It will only be obsolete if there aren’t any more people using it.

  • xConjo

Pretty sure the font is changed. The same happened with the photos of Xperia Z’s menu (i can’t really remember if it was Xperia Z, maybe it was Z Ultra) that had Comic Sans on the leaked photos.

Wow! I love the bezel like this, not too huge. Great!

    not z1s it‘s l39t. It’s a phone for China

  • 12

    It is not z1s

    it‘s l39t.

    It’s a phone for China

  • “Technology”

….which is why the Z1 owners are complaining right now. Cause they’ve spent a buck load of money on their Z1 only to know that the price will be halfed in another 4 months.

  • reDalerT

    iphone4.. 4s… iphone5.. 5s & 5c .. what was your point again?

  • reDalerT

noob, there was something called Sony Ericsson before that.

  • SeaTHX

Sorry I was wrong it’s already rolling out :-)

  • Ghayyath El Masri

i want the Xperia S design back :( a more premium Xperia S

  • sujeesh

Waiting for Motorola Moto G rival from Sony with similar specs and $250(16k rupees in India) no qHD,WVGA we need 720p 4.5″ with 8MP snapper.

  • Hjopp

I think you’ll be waiting a long time for that, friend.

  • iKushtyy

Least I can keep my £500 phone for a year.. Beats spending £500 on a phone for three months..

  • Rob

And of course you absolutely positively have to have the latest model. If there’s a new one the one you bought becomes useless and crap.

  • iKushtyy

That’s not the point I was making. Seems no one uses their head here, so I guess I’ll have to spell it out…

Why spend £500 on a flagship if I can wait a few months and pick it up for £300? Comprende?
