in Tips & Tricks, Xperia Z1

White Balance Xperia Z1Earlier today, Sony Japan launched a new update for the Xperia Z1 (SO-01F) which brought a number of new features including STAMINA mode, Small Apps and White Balance adjustment. Further details on the update can be found here.

The White Balance feature has been absent since day one on the Xperia Z1 and many people have longed for this given issues with displays that have a yellow tint or hue. White Balance didn’t make it into the Android 4.3 firmware build, but the feature has been ported from the NTT DoCoMo handset (SO-01F) to the global Xperia Z1 (C69XX). You can install it using recovery and the flashable zip can be downloaded from here.

Update: Sony has confirmed that this setting will be coming all Xperia Z1 devices “in the beginning of next year“.

Can someone please guide me on how to install this? What does ‘using recovery’ mean? Thanks in advance.

  • Clarence Alvarado

Hate it when I expected it to show in the Android 4.3 update and none did show. See this post and tried to install without root, and epic fail. :(

My friend wants a black settings background in his Z1.. is there any framework MOD for it?

    thanks! :)

  • adreno

why sony don’t use ips or amoled display…. and combine with triluminous like vaio

  • PERFECT!!!

Don’t NEED IT!!! My Z1 is PERFECT! There are NO Yellow Hues!!

  • jumbo3220

Triluminos is a backlighting technology using quantom dots. so it cant be integrated with AMOLED. because in AMOLED Pixels dont need a backlight. organic compounds can lit up by them selves. with IPS can. Xperia Z Ultra uses a IPS but not Z1

  • whaaa

Wow! Sony is starting to get things fixed! first the bootloader camera issue fi. Now this!

  • Beyoncé’ Ivy

YeAh! IPS Display combine with Triluminous technology, I hope to see this is in the next xperia flagship phone.

  • LancerEX

Hi everyone! Can anybody share their White Balance settings for Xperia ZR? I just noticed that it’s somewhat yellowish compared to my ray. :)

  • zoo keeper

Certified 4.3 for XZ . bring it SONY

  • 3rdflyleaf

    Yay! ZR <3

  • 3rdflyleaf

Mine is 6.0 by 215. I compared it on iphone and LG G2. ZR display is yellowish while G2 display is purplish.

  • 3rdflyleaf

I hope white balance is included on 4.3 update for other Xperias. I compared my ZR display to iPhone and LG G2. ZR display is yellowish and LG G2 is purplish, white on iphone is really great. I set my white balance setting to 6.0 by 215, now white looks ok.

  • LancerEX

Agree, I previously used an iPhone 4 before and the yellowish tint is really evident. Thanks btw! :)

  • xperiax10.awesome

I don’t know why but I am not able to see the option of “Get More Themes” in themes – using Xperia Z1 (4.3)

  • Ani

Where the hell is the cetrified firmware for XSP

  • Carljn

Check if you have Sony Select deactivated in apps.

  • xperiax10.awesome

    Oops, sry..u are correct.
Actually my Sony Select widget was working and Sony Select was disabled.

  • 3rdflyleaf

No problem. How’s your ZR? Have you tried to submerge it?

  • johnylim

Not much help as long the iluminated led still yellowish. I’m dissappointed with my XSP display, my Xperia Play produce better colour and true white colour than my yellowish XSP display. Compare to my friend iPhone5, really, it difference just too far

Xperia S has the same problem, why didn’t Sony do anything about that?

  • LancerEX

Yup! Many times already. I also bring it with me every time I use the bathroom. :P

  • LancerEX

Oops. What I mean is the values that you should enter to adjust the screen’s white balance. :)

  • Lolzer

Fyi, IPS and AMOLED is a bit “last year” tech. Triluminos on the other hand, is not the conventional PVA LCD used in most Xperias.
Triluminos, or known as Quantum Dot LED, is a new display technology meant to compete or replace OLED (or AMOLED).
Of course, QD LED is not at its final stage yet, that is why Triluminos is not very impressive. But the day QD LED enters mass-production stage, it is the day Sony shine.

  • Micro

you can only install this on a rooted phone, root yours and all will became pretty obvious ;)
