We recently reported that Sony Mobile may be preparing to launch Windows Phone 8 smartphones during 2014 and now Digitimes is adding further fuel to those rumours. It reports that Sony will use ODM Compal Communications to launch at least one to two models in 2014, with ongoing discussions for a further two to three models.
Sony may only be testing the water with WP8 and the report goes on to say that it has only ordered small volumes of each handset – tens of thousands each. The Sony WP8 phone would be sold to carriers in the United States and Japan. Using an ODM means that Sony can continue its R&D efforts on its core Android offering.
