Xperia Z2 Tablet launched in Hong Kong; Xperia Z2 delayed

in Sony Tablet, Xperia Z2

Xperia Z2 TabletSony Hong Kong launched the Xperia Z2 Tablet earlier today, however today’s event was also meant to mark the launch of the Xperia Z2 smartphone. However, Sony cancelled the Xperia Z2 launch for the region, postponing it to an undisclosed date in April.

Reports cite differing reasons for the delay with some talking of limited shipments due to component shortages and/or a focus on the European launch. Some sites have even spoke of a global delay for the Xperia Z2, although this remains unverified and doesn’t corroborate with conversations we have had.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet was announced for Hong Kong, where it will launch by the end of March. The Wi-Fi model will be available in 16GB and 32GB variants costing HK$3,890 and HK$4,690 respectively. The 3G model (no LTE launch) will cost HK$4,990. You can pre-register for information on both devices here.

Well PhoneArena reported that some tipsters said it could be pushed back MAYBE to April or early May. Meaning Sony won’t get that same jump start they had last year by releasing the Z before Samsung and HTC

Hopefully Sony is faced with delays like this for any of the other upcoming products they’re bringing to market

    Why would you want that?!?

Frick, my bad it’s like 6:30 in the morning here. I really hope Sony can remedy the situation and at least get the phone out in April. They might not have the slight lead they were looking for but the sooner the better.

Wish they would release in Canada. You know big Sony fan…love their products but hate waiting. Cannot get play station here as sold out never in Stock as the well. Most companies would love this problem and take advantage of the good will. Makes you wonder how their management team survives.

  • yes there is a global delay of Z2. Around the middle of April.

I assume you mean PS4 when you say “play station”? Maybe you are in a highly populated area where demand is higher, but I saw a store with about 5 in stock in my region only last week.

Uhm I would say that most ppl don’t care about 3G or 4G when it comes to tablets. It’s Wifi model that counts, at least that’s what I think.

Sony Xperia Z2 delay is actually not all that surprising. The new display could be the reason why. As long as the delay isn’t until the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch it shouldn’t be as bad.

If I’m reading the tipster right. He did said that small quantity of Z2 will still make available follow original schedule. But once the first lot out of sotck. next batch will be around May… So, get it fast if you can’t wait another two months if your region is lucky one that not delayed.
