Recent rumours pointed to the possibility of the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra phablet heading to T-Mobile in the United States. Well that rumour has just taken a step closer to reality after the Sony D5316 model number has passed through the FCC. The XXX16 model number normally denotes handsets specifically tied to T-Mobile US. We would still expect the D5306 model number to land in North America, more specifically for Canadian carriers.
We recently saw the Xperia T2 Ultra dual launch in India but it has not seen a wide release thus far. The single-SIM Xperia T2 Ultra was recently pulled from the UK roster and we fear it may only see a limited launch in Europe, if it appears at all. This ties in with Sony’s focus of the handset to customers from emerging markets in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific rim.
