Sony D6603 model number appears again in leaked screenshot

Sony D6603 model numberA new screenshot which supposedly shows the ‘About’ screen of the Sony D6603 has leaked. The build and kernel information has been masked, but the screenshot does show the D6603 model number and Android version 4.4.2 KitKat.

Previous benchmark leaks pointed to the Sony D6603 offering very similar specifications to the Xperia Z2 (D650X). This includes the Qualcomm MSM8974AB chipset with 2.3GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics, a 1080p display, 20.7MP rear camera, 16GB internal storage and 2GB RAM.

With such similar specifications (assuming the benchmark was correct), there is no guarantee that Sony plans to commercially release this device. It could have been made as a prototype. The 2GB RAM seems to suggest that possibility, especially given that the Xperia Z2 has 3GB of RAM. Given the limited availability of the Xperia Z2, which rumours point to component shortages, we would find it very strange to see a similarly specced device releasing anytime soon.

I don’t understand the endless flagships and high-end when the midrange is desperate for replacements, how about a SP and C replacement that people can actually afford

  • Joachim Nilsson

    It’s obviously the Nexus 6!

  • JHMBB2

    T-Mobile US version perhaps?

  • P9

XZ2 pls out world wide, no delay more.
    world waiting for ya.

  • Timbo1

could be, but I dont see why T-Mobile would opt for a model that has less RAM, unless the previous benchmark was incorrect on the amount of RAM, it would not be the first time that has happened…

  • aligamz

Sony is doing it again. Releasing too many devices, too many “flagships”, struggling with release dates and confusing consumers in the process.
    What a joke…

  • Alfino Setya

Does it Xperia ZL2? If it is Xperia ZL2 that likely a good news for me, so, I can cancel my plan to buy Xperia Z2. Waterproof-less isn’t such a big problem for me ;-D

  • mukul

    Xperia L certified updates removed
    ???????????
Whats that mean.we r not receiving updates any more?!

  • JHMBB2

Yeah, the RAM is the only issue I see here. I was at T-Mo the other day and the salesman said the Sony Rep came around announcing a new phone, salesman response was, ” Another phone already??” So I asked if he knew when the phone was coming, said he didn’t know if it was even coming.

He may have been covering his butt after disclosing too much info, which is what it felt like. Why else would the Sony rep be there? I dunno, but hopefully the US won’t have to wait too long.

  • Timbo1

That was probably the T2 Ultra the rep was referring to.

  • Colby Leong

Maybe there shouldn’t be a huge need for replacing their mid range devices, instead they should be focusing more on bringing the latest Android and firmware patches.

  • JHMBB2

He mentioned the z2 but who knows, maybe he got confused

  • shanefalco

I want a good midrange with 4.5″ hd 8mpx 1giga ram qualcomm400 quad1.6 or 1.4ghz with 16giga rom or 8giga rom +sdcard. At moment only alcatel idol 2 mini and huawei g6 are interesting.

  • Timbo1

interesting…generally speaking in my experiences sales reps in retail stores don’t know squat about the products they sell unfortunately and it does not help with Sony’s naming scheme either T2 and Z2 sound too similar in defense for the sales rep.

  • anon

    Z2 compact?

  • Abdul Rahman Khan

    z2 ultra…dad of xperia z :)

No chance. Nexus 6 will probably use either the adreno 420 or 430 graphics. My nexus 5 uses the adreno 330. Also very probable that it will have 3gb ram and no nexus device will ever have a camera that big.

  • najiy91

i think that is not a problem.some people like z,some peole like zl,zu,z1,z2 and others..depends on own taste.

  • najiy91

i think you forget the new xperia t2 ultra.5 inch display affordable.(‘~’)

  • Kater

Maybe some devices that similar to Xperia zr towards z:)

  • Brad Williams

I don’t understand how releasing a “similarly specced” phone is better than supplying the one you have. If it is that similar how is it they can get the device parts? Give us all the Z2 or stop marketing it, is my opinion. I want to buy a phone not read about it. Make. Believe is the catch cry, so make the bloody thing!!

  • xp

T2 ultra had a 6inch screen. It is a phablet

    Dear Samsung fanboy,

Comparing it to what the Korean giant is doing, releasing TOO MANY devices and calling them Galaxy Assess, what Sony is doing means nothing. You talking about confusions? A majority of the people don’t even know which Ass goes to which Galaxy anymore. NOW THAT is a freaking joke!

    Yours Sincerely,

    Sumo

  • shubham

Sony seems to start a bug fest with firmware updates lately. WTF, Sony? Few years ago, updates came slowly, but they were at least stable and mostly bug-free. Time to pull your sh*t together, Sony.

    wait for Xperia M2..
