in Firmware, Xperia SP

Xperia SPSony Xperia SP owners are still waiting to hear official news on whether their handset will receive an official upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Over on the support pages, KitKat for the Xperia SP is still “Under investigation”.

While we wait for an answer on KitKat, it appears that Sony shortly will push a small bug-fixing update. Vodafone Spain forum representatives confirmed that Sony “has begun work on a new version of software”. We understand that the Android 4.3 update will move the build version from 12.1.A.1.201 to 12.1.A.1.203. We’ll keep you posted on any further news.

Stop complaining about kit kat. It is NOT good. Performance will fall and that is proven. Also SD card write permissions would be removed. 4.3 is the best deal for SP right now. Besides, there’s not much of UI changes either. Just a new “glittery” lockscreen and new notification bar. And kit kat would introduce more bugs (related to camera too). So be happy with 4.3. I have experienced both

  • Montasser

    ??? firmware ?? xda :)

  • metcarded

You aren’t missing much on kk, plus you lose a few features like text wrapping on Web pages.
    Text wrapping > everything.

  • Gayan Chaturanga

Will this remove the screen flickering bug? I’m still with 4.1 because of the flickering and if sony gives us apps to sd card feature that’ll be better.

  • Mehrdad

    I also got it!!

  • Mehrdad

    Here..I also got it!!!!

  • hansip

I was thinking that the new device with SP design style is about to emerge (SP with RAM bump and IPS display will be a bomb i believe), reading the title alone :/ silly me..

  • Connstantine

    … but pretty interface…

  • tk

Add water/dust resistance, proper cameras (front and back ),replaceable battery

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Your phone can be easily rooted. with root access it won’t be limited. So don’t complain about it :D

  • NKD

ah….. finally!!!!! after such a long wait…i know this update will come no sooner before a month as sony is a champ in delaying updates :D hope dat this software wont bring up other surprising bugs :D 4.3 DISABLED THE BRAVIA ENGINE 2 IN XPERIA SP.. WE BADLY NEED THE BRAVIA ENGINE 2 WORKING ABSOLUTELY FINE IN THIS COMING UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU LISTENING SONY…???? GET ALL THE BUGS FIXED!!! PLZ THIS TIME!!!! WAKE UP SONY!!!!! WAKE UP!!!! We must have the kitkat :(

  • Sadman Khan

Rooting is QUITE the hassle on 4.4.2.
Either it involves downgrading, rooting and updating via certain methods or having an unlocked bootloader.
Mind you, not every user can handle these things. So most will probably have to live with the restrictions. And there is no way to improve performance even if you are rooted on Kit Kat. Doomkernel helps though. But that means having an unlocked bootloader and forsaking future official updates

  • Sadman Khan

Like i said, the only difference is the notification bar and the lockscreen.

I love you my honey, you are very funny, so please be my macho master.

  • Sture Karlsson

    That’s the xperia zr lol

  • Eduardo Otero

Well they only talk about a bug fixing, not a possible Kitkat release…

  • Joseph Nolan

Yes I agree entirely! I am personally more than happy with 4.3 now it is working properly and not interested in Kitkat at all.

Sony India confirms update Android KitKat 4.4.2 for Xperia SP for june-july 2014

    NEW UI :D

  • goku

wtf get away from me you pervert

  • Rendy Jaeger

Look Gsmarena Xperia Sp planned upgrade to v4.4 (KitKat)

  • Shakhawat Hossain

I totally agree with you but stupid frustrated users won’t listen. Besides kitkat will just produce more bugs but the official support time of sony software update service will be over by then and we will end up with a buggy device like z1. Also there is ofcourse the sd card restriction thing which is totally disgusting. I very much doubt that sony will bother with another big fix update for Xperia sp after providing kitkat… Besides i personally hate the new kitkat lockscreen and notification status bar. These are best in jelly bean. Specially the lockscreen is just beautiful as it is now. I have seen my friend’s crying with their z1 in their hand after updating to kitkat lol.

  • Shakhawat Hossain

Speak only for yourself. Not every user knows how to root or willing to root. The guys who are complaining about kitkat doesn’t know all the changes in kitkat of sony. If they knew, i very much doubt that they would want it anymore. All l want is a stable 4.3 update and i will be more then happy with it. I don’t give a rats ass about any update which actually downgrades in terms of visual looks and performance also…

  • Shakhawat Hossain

Interface is much pretty in 4.3 brother. Just look at the lockscreen and notification status bar of 4.3 and 4.4 and you will know the difference….

  • Shakhawat Hossain

Thats just a new theme with transparent status bar. Courtesy of kitkat. But i hate the new disgusting lockscreen of sony kitkat ui. Its totally disgusting. Also i hare the status notification bar. Yuck

  • Lestat

I just want a smartband for my SP…

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Yea I agree to that. but remember Rooting on 4.1.2 was the easiest and if you have common sense and idea of backing things up you can easily get root on 4.3 and restore all your data.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Rooting 4.1.2 is the easiest and you just need to simply update it with the update package NUT gives you in XDA. and restore your back up and you’re good to go. Even when Sony updates it to 4.4.2 where will it stop?then they’ll have to update it again to fix the bugs just like they are doing with 4.3 :P

  • Sadman Khan

I felt like downgrading to 4.3. In fact i did. But it’s like when there’s a new thing available, it’s hard to stay with the old one :P and kit kat has serious issues. Random reboots is one of them. Sd card problems. And laggy. Performance on 4.3 is so much better.

  • Sadman Khan

Trust me, compared to 4.4.2, 4.3 is as bugless as it gets :P and no rooting isn’t THAT easy. Not just a click of a button. Like i said earlier, not everyone can do it. I can sure as hell do it as i am into using custom roms/kernels etc. But let’s think about the majority. Everyone would be discouraged when they see instructions of like 20 lines :P

  • Shakhawat Hossain

Rooting without any reason doesn’t make one a badass to brag about this. I just don’t understand this, Why root when you can get a perfect rom from your phone manufacturer ? What’s wrong with official updates ? We will get more updates in future so now i just don’t want to go through all the hustles like 1. backup all apps and data 2. unlock bootloader 3. root 4. when official update comes then relock your bootloader to update through sus or pc companion 5. after updating then again unlock bootloader 6. again root and restore all your apps and data. Sounds like overkill :D I will think about root and custom roms after official update period is over.

  • Shakhawat Hossain

Ya you are right. But there are some people who thinks they are the only one who can root and brags about this online :D

  • Sadman Khan

    Haha yeah XD

  • Sadman Khan

You can’t just scare chi chi away like that :P

  • manouchehr.maz

    Revive Bravia engine 2 ..!
