We want this Deff micro USB Magnet Adapter so bad

Deff TRAVEL BIZ Xperia – micro USB Magnet Adapter_11Sony has adopted magnetic charging into most of its recent flagship Xperia devices. Whilst it may not charge as quickly as through the micro USB port, the convenience of not having to mess around with the port flap cannot be underestimated.

The biggest problem is that there are a number of hurdles for users to actually take advantage of this feature. First of all you have to purchase the magnetic charging dock from Sony, which doesn’t come cheap by the way. There is then the fact that depending on which case you use on your device you may not be able to get the phone to sit in the dock properly.

Sony creates a new magnetic charging dock for every new phone that comes out which has this feature. We’ve asked countless times why Sony doesn’t just create a universal solution for those invested in Sony’s products. It hasn’t happened so far and we can’t see such an accessory appearing anytime soon.

We have talked in the past how the older docks could be dismantled to free the actual USB magnetic charging cable, but not everyone is comfortable doing that. That is where this “Deff TRAVEL BIZ Xperia – micro USB Magnet Adapter” comes in. It is quite simply a micro USB magnet adaptor for Sony Xperia phones, allowing you to turn any charging cable into a magnetic charging cable.

Yes, we have seen products like this before on eBay being sold on the cheap from China, but often they do not work as advertised. As Deff is a Japanese company, this product is not unfortunately available outside of Japan. However, it has already garnered very positive reviews on Amazon.co.jp and Rakuten . It is available in three colours (black, purple and white) for 1,380 Yen (£8, €10, $14) excluding tax.

This seems like the perfect accessory for those who have a Sony Xperia with magnetic connector. If anyone can figure out how we can get hold of one of these in Europe, please do get in touch!

God this is an awesome idea. I want one of these.

  • Ricardo Ca

i am searching one with stronger magnet so it doesn’t detach so easily when you move your device.

  • Costas Sarandos

    are you nuts??!!!

i have 3 of these since march!!

    http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Performance-Magnetic-Charging-Adapter/dp/B00JEN5S6A

    the ultimate proven magnetic adapter

  • dreamgs1

why not use micro usb directly?? what is the use of this?

  • AsadMulla
  • Prateek Bhanushali

Does it charge more speedily than the actual one ??? Why we need this then ???

  • Amir

sony should port the smartband exposed waterproof usb to all of it’s high end devices. it’s no brainer… then they won’t be needing the magnetic port and the phone will look and feel more seamless and premium. less ports = better.

  • Wolf0491

Do you even own a xperia device? Or read the article?

  • XperiaBlog

Cool, looks very similar. We hadn’t seen this before. How well does it work in practice?

  • David Pascual

I came here to say just this. I have a number of magnetic cables purchased from Amazon, including the Sony OEM charging cable. Most don’t work very well – generally a weak magnet is an issue. The Magnector X cable Costas has linked to is head and shoulders above all of them, including the OEM Sony cable. You can buy it as an adapter for an existing micro-usb, or even as a standalone cable:

    http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Performance-Xperia-Charging-Cable/dp/B00JEMESHG/ref=sr_1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1404419742&sr=1-2

    They are worth it.

  • dreamgs1

i won xperia ZL where there is no concept of magnet. I don’t know for which junk phone this is required. so my question is for that reason.

  • DrKrFfXx

To keep the connector flaps from wearing over time?

  • DrKrFfXx

Water resistant Xperias rely on rubber seals to maintain its resistance.

Using the magnet connector keeps the rubbers from wearing and letting water in.

  • Mohammed Khired

link ? ebay or any thing ?

and does it catch to the connectors firmly ?

  • SkyS1gn

Charge as fast as the others… you still have to use the main charger, it plugs in via USB.

  • SkyS1gn
  • Wolf0491

The article States recent xperia phones. All the newer ones have water resistant thus have seals over connector. People don’t like taking that on and off because it will wear the seal. It is easier to connect to dock etc. If you won a ZL in contest I would hope that wasn’t recent as that device is already well over year old now. I have the Z which is its cousin and it is not a junk phone. Also if you look at pictures that is clearly not a ZL. I don’t know what else to say. How about research your own device.

  • walker

    bytheway i’ve this one

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

Because ZL is not waterproof. ;) If waterproof devices are junk for you, you must be someone who is afraid of water.

  • Anthony pierron
  • Jiyeon90

What? My Z1 charges about 9% in 10 minutes though the magnetic charger, it’s faster than charging through the USB port

  • I found a couple cables like this on eBay for $10 CND. They were the cables though, not the adapters. Had white purple and black to pick from.

  • Riyal

I got one decent adaptor sold in a local online store here in our country. Not sure though where to buy internationally.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    Does it charge fast?

  • z

does this work with the Xperia Z? the description says Z1.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Z doesn’t support magnetic charging. sad story.

  • Arup

Have that as well and works just fine.

  • Mac

Me 2 but a white one, but the magnet is too weak for my taste. A slightest touch and it stops charging..
But a also have the dk stand so no problem here. But I would indeed like to have one of these as well.

  • YuuriAyano

I wonder if I can find one of that here in the Philippines?

  • Mac

Wtf, can you please tell me what Xperia it is shown with it in your link? Looks stunning with that white faceplate! I thought only ZL and SP had this but this is something else clearly.

  • Mac

too expensive and too much effort for an adapter. I just got several generic magnetic cables for the same price. Not worth it to get just an adapter… specially since the phone already has a micro USB port in case of an emergency

  • Mac

    Me2 but white.
It would have been nice with a stronger magnet tho..

  • Mac

Wtf, which phone is that? A Z2 with white faceplate :-o?

  • Simi401

Dont use these third party magnetic chargers!
I have read that there is a risk of getting a short circuit if they are placed the wrong way. Then the phone will be destroyed without warranty!
This one might be good but I warn you.

  • Mahinthan So
  • Mik

where did u buy it!? it’s original, I want!! *_*

  • Rob

The positive and negative pads are different sizes to avoid that specific scenario.. Look on your phone, the adapter won’t connect if it’s the wrong way.

  • AA

Thank you for providing this useful information. I’ll ordering mine.

  • AA

  • Bur

Guys, I got a similar one, by magnector. They have a site magnector.com

  • Mateusz R Traczyk

It’s clearly an edited picture, and a poorly done one at that. The editor took an image of a Z2 and colored the face white… and forgot about the opening for the proximity sensor in the process. (which should be to the left of the Sony logo, fyi)

  • How can I find one that is compatible for Sony Xperia z? I checked all the links below, and none match. Can someone please help?

  • CasperPL
  • Xperia
  • hocestquisumus

Aliexpress has dozens of those. I have about five. They all work very well

  • Cost? Location? How can I purchase? Are they for Xperia Z?

  • IMHO

“We’ve asked countless times why Sony doesn’t just create a universal solution for those invested in Sony’s products. It hasn’t happened so far and we can’t see such an accessory appearing anytime soon.”

There won’t be a universal one. A backwards compatible one with previous phones maybe but not a universal one. Reason being they are not able to standardise this technology yet as there is still so much improvement that can be made. Like adding data transfer, video and or audio out.

  • ???

China Have A lot of This Thing And Very Very Cheap & Nice Quality, i have 3 xperia dock 1 in home 1 in office 1 in company apartment, all working good and very cheap, try find it from any chinese online store if you want to buy :) If You travel to china shenzhen, the magnetic convertor like the picture above only RMB 30 or below 30, haha

  • SkyS1gn

Why everyone ask this? Totally same charging time, its just a cable, not a charging brick.

Are you sure that Sony core is waterproof without the band? I mean have you tried, I don’t believe it is.

  • Amir

Yes. it is waterproof even without the band. sony representative confirmed it when the core was announced at CES. i expected that z2 would have wp usb already.

  • Mac

Oh is that so, thank you.
    Now this is good!

  • Stopspam

I have been using magnetic charging cables for about 1.5 months on my z2 and last week the magnetic charging port came loose and fell out! There are several photos of this problem posted by various users on internet. The charging port is a tiny piece of plastic and appears to be glued to the case. I suspect that repeated pressure applied to this port will cause the port to detach and fall out. The port was likely designed for the dock where the phone will just sit on the dock connector as compared to cables where the user may press the cable head against the port.

Sony offered to repair it under warranty and, upon my request, agreed to provide a replacement unit but have stated that they will do this once only. I think I am going to switch back to charging through the usb port. I prefer breaking the usb port cover to breaking the magnetic charging port.

This is a warning for anyone using a cable with the z2. Avoid applying pressure on the port!

  • Amir

Sony need to ditch the magnetic port for exposed waterproof usb. no brainer! by that you get less ports = more seamless design, better feel when holding, ease of use, you don’t need to pay loads of money just for that docking station. this is only a good thing. xperiablog, nobody needs special magnetic ports ideally. remake your article and suggest Sony what i wrote.

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

I have the same in white, got it for $6 on Ebay. :p

  • Mac

Got an order on that one, Imma let you know how I think it preforms. Kinda expensive though, hah I even got the dk32 for just a bit more on promotion.

  • Mac

I’ve got both of the ones you’ve linked to. And all I can say is that they’ve got 2 weak magnets. Even though mine are from eBay and were even cheaper.
But I also did an order on the magnetor X adaptor that some people here have been recommended. Hope it works better cuz man this was an expensive adaptor, almost same price as the dk32 on promotion.

  • Mac

    Aight,
Well the Z2 looks very sexy in that all white body.

  • Mac

Actually it’s not original but as close as it gets for now. But the magnet is weak and not so perfect as it could be. At least for the one I’ve got from eBay. But this DEFF version or the Magnetor X might be a better choice although they’re much more expensive.

  • Erfan Sakib

I thought Z2 does have a white variant?

  • Mac

    Yea, but with black frontplate.

  • Erfan Sakib

You’re right. Didn’t realised the faceplate is white as well.

  • Adam

Aaaaagh. Would have been nice if I had known about this before I spent all that money on an overpriced Sony charging dock for my Xperia Z2 Tablet.

  • hocestquisumus

Go to Aliexpress.com. Enter ‘Xperia Z1 magnetic’. Choose from about 3000 search returns. Maybe spend a dollar more and you’ll get better quality  As for ‘location’, it’s China. All of them. I live in Europe and usually I get my stuff from Ali within 14 days.

The Z doesn’t have the same connector so those won’t fit. Just adapt the search term, bam, 2100 results.

  • Kay

My Magnetor has a strong magnet but the connection is loose. It doesn’t charge my phone reliably because a tiny 1mm movement can disconnect it. I am returning it and buying a Deff off Rakuten.
