Sony launching a new Xperia handset on 8 July?

by XB on 6th July 2014

in Rumours, Xperia C3

SelfieSony Mobile Taiwan plans to formally launch the Xperia Z2a this coming Tuesday 8 July 2014. We will get firm detail on pricing on that day, which some reports suggest will be around 18,900.00 TWD (£368, €465, $632).

In addition to the Xperia Z2a, ePrice is reporting that Sony plans to launch a new handset on the same day, which is planned to launch globally. There is very little news regarding the handset apart from the fact one of its key marketing features will be the ability to take selfies. We’ll let you know whether anything transpires from this in a couple of days.

  • maybe a new fad for flasgship phones where selfies are focused on

why can’t sony make a no compromise phone with the best screen they can deliver best sound best everything

  • Felipe Pimenta

Erm, if one of its key features is to be able to take selfies, it is DOA. If you think about it, a selfie is taking a photo of yourself, optionally with other people or stuff. That means, every single device with a camera is able to take selfies.

  • Qualcomm briefly takes down Android code for CyanogenMod, Sony and itsel

    What now?

  • Luca

Oh great, another 5 inch qHD smartphone with a 1.2 Ghz processor

  • Felipe Pimenta

Because that’s all Sony needs right now, right?

  • DC

Yeah its second marketing feature is making phone calls.

  • Felipe Pimenta

WOW! I must buy this phone. I can’t believe how Sony managed to keep everyone from leaking such a revolutionary device.

  • Prateek Bhanushali

A 5mp front cam, mediatek chipset, 5+ screen with qhd res, competitive pricing….. Thats wht I am guessing.

  • iPhone

Now you can bypass Apple’s Anti-Theft Activation Lock. Annoying this is :@prateekbhanushali:disqus

Sony is becoming the Samsung, with many unnecessary entries.

  • Caio Faria

Sony is becoming the Samsung, with many unnecessary releases.

  • I know a few people are dumping on the fact that Sony may have another lower grade phone to toss into the mix, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Having many options of phones, including budget phones may help Sony get noticed a bit more. The market is saturated with Samsung phones, it’d be great to see Sony become a more popular brand on the streets.

  • jj

    Kind of.. C2?

  • shanefalco

    Why you no flash it?

Samsung became popular thanks to flagships not budget phones. They are everywhere because people don’t even know why they are buying samsung other than it being samsung. Sony keeps on releasing garbage phones which they just cannot support, it’s not helping them. Old SE never compromised on quality. In mid-range sony everything feels like a compromise. Even their flagships have some like generally low music volume. If sony can make a real moto g competitor both in specs and price than that would make them popular. Or maybe treat their most popular mid-range nicely. I mean continuity is important if you can’t satisfy 1billion low range users you cannot expect them to be your customer in the long run.

  • Miss Leading

Title is very misleading lol. For awhile there I was expecting to see news of the Z3 @_@

  • Jose Cano

all it’s good just the screen is too sensible. i replace it 2 times in 1 month.
i need one screen more stronger

  • razor

Samsung is what it is today because of their mid range and low range phones. Certain market did made Samsung become popular because of their wide range offers in mid to low range phones before galaxy s3 came out then their flagship phone started being noticed.

Everyone who wants flagship, buy the flagship as soon as they come out, and that’s every six months like I do. I have owned most of the flagships, just had Note3, Z Ultra, and now the, G3, Z2 and Z2 Ultra. Why are some complaining, the flagships are here. Of course not everyone can afford flagships, and not everyone need a flagship either. So Sony understands all that. Hence Z2a. So, stop bitching.

  • disqus_Ujh7U2h3F8

And also, yes please DO use Samsung phones and TV. You don’t all need to use Sony.OK.

  • xperiaDROID

Z2 Ultra? How can you use a phone that’s not announced nor released yet? Oh, and I buy flagships, but I must use my phone at least one year or more, I don’t have the money to buy another flagship phone every six month, that’s just wasting money.

  • xperiaDROID

Why should we listen to you?
    Sony > Samsung
    Nuff’ said.

  • xperiaDROID

    Must be the Xperia C2.

  • xConjo

If you buy a flagship on the first month, it will be a perfect phone for 18 months, no need to buy every 6 months.

If you were to say the Z1/Z, I would’ve said the screen is no frigging way near Bravia like. But ever since they fixed it in the Z2, there’s nothing much i can complain about lol

The only downside most have acknowledge right now is the slightly less
than ideal audio quality. But it is understandable because of the
Maybe, just maybe. If they had a technology that dosn’t require a waterproof membrane over the speakers and microphones over them. Then we’d have a waterproof device with no compromise to sound quality XD

Given the rate at how technology is advancing.. We should see it in the Z6~++ maybe? ;P
(assuming Sony continues with the Z line for that long..)

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

I have both Z2 and M8, the audio quality in Z2 is no way low or bad. :p Its actually awesome, depending on the stuff, its better than M8! Low tempo songs and musicals sound better on the Z2. Games sound more immersive on the M8.

  • manthatwasalot

I agree with your first sentence. But you’re forgetting something, it is s “3” the third gen flagship. Meaning it had at least 2 predecessors also nexus ones. If what you’re saying is what happened it also comes down to my comment stating that they have to satisfy mid-range users to lure them to flagships which sony fails to do miserably.

  • lol

galaxy started famous with S2 not S3, with the help with galaxy nexus.
