New firmware (14.4.A.0.133) certified for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact

Xperia Z1_14.4.A.0.133A new firmware update with build number 14.4.A.0.133 has been certified by the PTCRB website for the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra handsets. The update would move the build number from version 14.4.A.0.118 (which only hit selected carrier devices) or the older 14.4.A.0.108 build that saw a global release.

The relatively small change in build number suggests this is a bug/security fix. We’ll let you know when the update starts to roll.

Xperia Z1 firmware build 14.4.A.0.133 certified for C6902, C6903 and C6906 variants

Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503) firmware build 14.4.A.0.133 certified

Xperia Z Ultra firmware build 14.4.A.0.133 certified for C6802, C6833, C6843 and C6806 variants

What do you mean by security fix, how would they go about making it more secure?

  • David Moslehi

I couldn’t be much happier. XZU rocks because Sony rocks! :)

  • XperiaBlog

A patch to the Fake ID vulnerability perhaps? Not sure whether this has been already patched in the latest f/w. Maybe someone can confirm using the Bluebox
    Security Scanner?

May be the sony decided to implement the double tap to wake on the z1!! that will be very helpful!!

  • Mullawi

Hope next update we read about is for Xperia Z, update to 4.4.4, fix lag and battery drain and features from Z1 and Z2. After that we can be happy with a good final release for Z.

  • Michael M.

I will move back to sony’s stock firmware only when they make it ART.

  • El Snajdo

On xda they say that the displays are different, and that’s the reason for tap-to-wake not being possible on some models; I don’t know, but it sounds like a good reason.
I’d love to have it on my Z1 Compact though.

  • Amaneneko???

ART support pls… About time tbh… You cant just wait till Android L…

  • A7medFox

I think it won’t .. Because double tap to wake needs a kernel modification or change not only in the fw so i don’t think that small update may introduce a kernel replacement or modification to allow dttw

  • schoerki222

FakeID already fixed on Z1 with 14.4.A.0.108 FW.

  • dr

according to blue box scanner the fake id vulnerability has already been patched.

  • XperiaBlog

    Thanks for confirming both. :-)

  • Sadman Khan

Hopefully this fixes the random reboots on my ZU.

  • Muhannad

    hope to fix camera bug

  • xperiaz1fan

i use knockr app for tap-to-wake. its possible

  • Sony Mobile

  • Sand

Sony is being fantastic with this phone! *_*
I am almost forgeting my poor experience with my old Xperia S

  • YuuriAyano

Really hoping Sony would upgrade these phones to Android L!

  • Tech Gospel

Can’t wait for this to hit my Z1c!!! :) Hope they release a fix for the Tablet Z as well and the horrible lag KK introduced.

  • ProWeirdo

I have an annoying bug on my Z Ultra since last update. Pretty often when I want to unlock my screen it is black. The content of the screen is not visible, although it responds on my taps. I have to lock and unlock it many times to wake up the screen. I hope it’s gonna be fixed. Anyone with a similar problem?

  • bao trung giang

Plz fix the battery life for the z1

  • Lukáš Pávl

Tap-to-wake is only kernel limited no ts limited so it’s possible for every phone with touchscreen.

They should.. Beacause this phone has last generation processor.. If sony doenst, we have CM team to do this for us! ;)

  • joe

or may be sd transfer i hope

  • Roger Carp

Bluetooth speaker volume is still set to max and I still can’t control it even after the last update

  • Muzaffer Bayraktar

Even if so, build number doesnt show big change. I’m not hopeful about that. But you never know.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Double tap on the Z Ultra would be sweet

  • ladams888

Hope this update will allow us to disable their appalling “What’s New” app…

  • Ryan-161

Anyone notice the super annoying incorrect touchscreen on the Xperia Z1? it does weird shit with even touching it… anyone?

  • Paul M

b b b but I only just updated my XZU to 118 and got all the rooting sorted out.

OK, actually, I am pleased Sony are actively working on updates for my device.

  • Paul M

is fine for me on XZU, with AptX bluetooth receiver.

I’m quite astounded how Sony constantly updates its former flagships. Hell, the Z2 still isn’t even on the latest build of Android unlike the Z1, Compact and Ultra. Keep it up Sony!

    Clean your screen. ;)

I only notice it when the screen gets a lot of finger oil on it.

  • Gary Ohanian

Don’t want it disabled, I just want it able to be disabled :)

  • Gary Ohanian

? I get 2 – 2.5 days out of mine. Maybe you need to check your apps.

  • ???????? ???????

And what about updates for Z, ZL,ZR??? Sony forget about last year flagships. Over? And we have first kitkat with all bugs???

  • ???????? ???????

    The same on ZL 4.4.2

Anyone else face the wifi not responding issue on Z1?

  • ShiroiTaka

Have you got a case on the phone? My Z1C case sometimes makes the screen go funny, when I remove the case it behaves.

Same as Z on 4.4.2 here. Sometimes locking unlocking solves the problem but there are times where it takes countless times up to 20 attempts

  • Adrian M

deodex your system and get root and well you have 4k xD

sorry about that. deodex patch works just fine with my rom. is your model C6902?? because there are a few things you must do before flashing deodex patch thru recovery

  • Mohammed Khired

    I have c6903

When i said i have history i mean alot devices before the z1

  • InspectorGadget80

    I love my Z1

  • Zhyriel ZA

Hopefully get Z Ultra Camera.. 8 megapixels under wide screen…….

  • Tech Gospel

on my Z1 Compact, the last update (108) screwed up my Bluetooth HD/Headset on my Jawbone Icon HD and LTE stability functions. They work, but not as well as they used to. Battery life suffered slightly. If you don’t use LTE 24/7 and simultaneous Bluetooth headset/media streaming you won’t notice the glitch. It’s a minor glitch that would only affect few users (the LTE glitch seems to be isolated to certain frequencies only as well) I’m hoping this update restores functionality prior to the 4.4.4 108 update.

  • Khillo81

I had that on my Z1 with the previous firmware on KitKat 4.4.2. It was gone after I updated to the latest firmware KitKat 4.4.4. It seems it fixed the problem on one handset only to introduce it in another.

  • Roger Carp

I have z1. It worked fine until the first 4.4 update. I got a bit tired of things not working as they should on Sony’s phones. You should have see my xperia S.. Lazy son of a itch

  • ProWeirdo

Well yeah, if I was spamming the power button it wouldn’t work. I discovered that I have to do one attempt and another one after like 5 seconds to make it work. It’s really annoying…

  • ProWeirdo

But that’s weird. It didn’t actually appear straight after the update, but about a week ago. My handset is cursed

  • RoberMC

Well… it seems they are betatesting on the Z1. Each firmware they release for it, it’s buggier and more unstable than the previous one. Look at the Z2, it does not have Android 4.4.4, but the firmware, in its current status, is rock solid as it is.

  • fried_egg

I wonder if it is to fix the sudden battery life drain i am getting since the little over the air thing last month… although i have facebook beta & had the foursquare/swarm and so there are more than 1 possible cause, nothing is showing in the battery usage section as standing out other than system… now a full charge of my Z1 is showing no more than 18hours of normal use available… it was a full day before

  • Yousuf Munshi

Can I please ask all readers owning an Xperia Z Ultra: have you had a dead pixel on this phone? I updated my XZU to its most recent software update and just above the home button on the screen appeared a tiny black spot. This ever happened to anyone?

  • YuuriAyano

Easy for you to say! My Z1’s bootloader is locked :(

  • John

Try “” Dead Pixel Detect and Fix “” from Google Play store!!
Leave it all night flashing colors! Good luck! :-)

  • liampaulmassey

Backup ‘EVERYTHING’ and then reset the phone cos this fixed a bug for me on ANDROID 4.4.4, I could not personalize/change the lock screen but after reseting it, it fixed it so doing that it could fix your problem

  • Paul M

I’ve not seen these firmwares become available for download through XperiFirm. Anyone else found a place I can grab the Z Ultra version?

  • giugot87

on my z1c i have the versione 108. the aren’t update on my phone for 118 or 133 version. Why?? from italy.

  • Martin Deschambault

I’m sooooo glad you said that. I just bought that’s going to be delivered on Friday. I can’t wait to get out from under my Xperia S. Great phone – cheap build – poor support.

  • Gabriel Voica

This is the 118 build on Z Ultra

  • Paul

Yes – mine constantly drops when roaming between access points since updating – both my home network and work BYOD network. My wife’s (not updated yet) is still fine.

  • Rose

The newest update WILL NOT INSTALL on my xperia z1 mobile – no matter how many times I redownload it.

Is anyone else having this problem?

14.4.A.0.133 is the new firmware update.
