Sony E2105/E2115: First 2015 Xperia model numbers revealed

by XB on 8th December 2014

in Rumours, Xperia E4

Xperia logoThe Sony E2105 and E2115 model numbers have been revealed by the Indonesian Postel regulatory site. These are the first 2015 Sony Xperia model numbers that we have come across, denoted by the ‘E’ at the start of the model number. All 2013 Xperia models used the CXXXX designation, whilst for 2014 they used DXXXX.

The Sony E21XX is likely to be a budget model – the equivalent handset in 2014 was the Xperia E1 Dual (D2104, D2105). So what we could be seeing here is the Xperia E4, to follow the existing naming scheme. Seeing it appear on the Postel site on 26 November means this new phone could see an announcement at CES 2015 in early January. We’ll bring you more as we have it.

Sony E2105 and E2115

  • Thariq Mohammed

nice scheme to find the year of the phone

  • Vignesh Raja

Lets hope at least in 2015, Sony doesn’t release too many phones and get jammed with too much work load.

  • J.

tell us something about z4 ultra..
    snapdragon 805 or snapdragon 810?

I would say S810, They need to use 810 for the next flagship(s) for sure.
Plus Z4U should have the functionality use any pen or pencil I think.

    s810 second half 2015

  • Ritwij

    My guess :
    Snapdragon 810
    4GB RAM
New improved 20.7 MP sensor with dual LED (dual tone) flash
    5MP front camera
5.2 to 5.5 inch display with QHD resolution (although it’s unnecessary)
3000-3500 mAh battery ( 2 days battery backup)
    Dual speakers with amplifiers
    Fingerprint sensor

  • Vuyo Ncube

    Z4
No Z4 Compact needed, Z3 Compact shall remain king of small smartphones for at least a year
    SD410 720p midranger (probably E4)
Z5 Ultra to take on the Note 5 (if Qualcomm can upclock their SD810 or introduce a 64-bit Krait successor in time)
    SD610/615 1080p midranger (SP successor)
    Z2 Tablet successor in Q1 2015
    Z3 Tablet Compact successor in Q4 2015

Yes, Sony only f****** needs to make 4 smartphones and 2 tablets in 2015. Only 6 f****** mobile products. No f****** dedicated selfie phones, no f****** anorexic phones, no f****** lowrangers because budget users buy supported old flagships and midrangers, .

Less phones, less problems. More unified kernels. Faster updates. Narrow the gap in expertise between your camera division and your mobile division. Maintain the battery life throne. Done.

  • Ritwij

Any pen or pencil. Even conductors like a knife. Z2 has that too!

  • Amir

don’t get caught in mobile sites news drama just to get more page views. s810 devices will be ready for april-may worldwide release. there is plenty of time to sort things.

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

    You sir need more upvotes.
I agree with you..But Z4 has got to be released at the MWC to ensure the SD810 used.. If released ar CES, it’s too early because they wouldn’t have the time to test it yet..
Remember, SD810 SoC chips are only shipped to manufacturers by December.. Or now..

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Yup…So I hope Sony releases it at the MWC.. Enough time to get the chip which ships this month and test them out in their phones..Sony will surely have to uses the latest and greatest SD810 just like how they used the SD800 in the Z1..

  • mah

    very thank xperiablg

  • mah

Sorry I put the wrong picture..

  • Amir

I have no doubt that sony will use s810 for all z4 devices. qualcomm has all the resources to make s810 ready. i can’t imagine qualcomm will stay behind apple in 64 bit race in first half of 2015.

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Sony will use..But it’s the time that matters, if they plan to release it at CES, then they are surely gonna use SD805, as it is more available at the moment..but if they decide to Release the Z4 at MWC, which is a much better guess, as I recall Sony’s financial year starts at April, then SD810 is for sure..
Financial year matters too, because you don’t want to start selling new products in an old financial quarter, where the losses covers the profits

  • Emil Oskarsson

first half according to Qualcomm themselves :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Altough they have done a pretty good job with updates to their xperia z line, so i dont care how many phones they release as long as i still gets some updates to newer android versions :)

  • Alex Norris

That is future Z4 If we can see, nothing will change, another copy-paste of Z3 and other Z series. side frames are bigger, and very boring design (( Only with snapdragon 805, but not 810( Camera with smaller sensor and cheaper lenses. Nothing new. http://www.overclockers.ru/images/news/2014/12/08/Xperia-Z4-1.jpg

Samsung & Lg will have dragon 810, on S6 will be new 20 mp. camera, and it will be better than on Sony, like always.
    Sony Z4, nothing special…

Anyone that thinks that sony will actually announce a new z device (not variant) at CES is misinformed or disconnected from reality. there won’t be any z device announcments at CES. stop being fed by phonearena joke “news”.

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

I have seen the news on GSMARENA, but they have stated that the source comes from an unknown individual.. This news link you just gave me was only guessing what might be happening from the GSMarena source.. It might be credible,it might not be credible.. But for all I know high end chipsets like the Tegra K1 also suffers from drawing very high amount of energy when running at full clockspeed, which explains why it isn’t in handsets yet..So,this is a common problem with highend but compact chipsets

    xperia E4: 5″ 960×540 5mpx snap410 1gram 8grom+sdcard = ridicolous product!!!

  • Anukul

I’ll be happy if z4 retains 5.2″ display size and sheds off a few millimeters from height.

  • Vuyo Ncube

This is fake. The latest version of Android is 5.0.1, not 5.1. PhoneArena also got the same pictures from the same tipster and the pictures contradicted each other.

  • Vuyo Ncube

Qualcomm has already said the SD810 SoC is ‘on track’ without delays for H1 2015. The overheating and RAM controller issues were rumours.

Sony should use something similar to the “Finger print” and “Tap to unlock” sensors that’s used in samsung and apple and lg, and my idea of this to Sony they should use something unique,

Signature, that’s what i call it, The User should write his Signature / Name / Symbol on the screen to unlock it, even if it’s off,
i’v send this idea to Sony developers email but no response yet, i hope this idea take it’s place on the upcoming Sony’s models .

  • asdasd

i guess z4 will use s810 after all
since z3 was anounced in september, following the 6 month cycle would give us march 2015 as a new announcement from sony, and march will be when MWC will happen. until there i think s810 is very possible. the overheating s810 were fake news, and there are already a qualcomm reference desin phone with s810 for sale right now.
a CES anounement would be just 4 months since z3, sony wouldnt do that

  • GregLu

They can do it since LG has achieved to put a 5.5″ screen into the same size frame …

But anyway I’ll stay with my Z3c. So much power, so much battery, and don’t want to be a beta tester of SD810 for Qualcomm and Sony/Samsung/LG. I’ll stick with sure thing :)

  • gmfady

If you actually read my reply, I already noticed that. The tipster typed “5.1” while the blurred text says “5.0”.

  • Alex Norris

I said so, because first you had other text, you then it was changed and supplemented. And secondly, there are two links, one version of phonearena, and the other from the Iranian site toranji.ir it says Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with 4 cores Krait 450 at 2.7 GHz, 3 GB RAM 5,2 “Quad HD-screen and Android 5.0 Lollipop

This version of which is published phonearena: Full HD-screen, 64-bit processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994)

If we think about it, Snapdragon 810 can not be, as the Z4 will be shown at the beginning of January.

  • Alex Norris

And about curved sensor it`s has bigger size like on lumia 1020 sensor, but in thin Z4 body, we will see much more simple and smaller sensor with another cheaper G lenses.

  • Vuyo Ncube

The Z4 isn’t confirmed for CES in January, only rumoured. It’s more likely to see it at MWC in March to line up with the end of their 6 month refresh cycle and take on other flagships getting released at that time. The SD810 is still possible.

  • Vuyo Ncube

Are you referring to the huge IMX271SMK curved sensor Xperia Blog talked about a while ago? Even that specs sheet said the module was under 7mm (curved sensor requires fewer, less complex lenses thus reducing module thickness; Sony drew up comparative diagrams showing why). Anyway, they’d never put a 2/3″ sensor in a smartphone. The Z4 will most likely get the reasonably smaller 1/2.4″ IMX230 (hopefully it’s curved too).

And how do know what Sony does with its smartphone sensors and respective lenses? Are you an employee? Are our complaints about Xperias’ camera software mistaken?

  • Anonymous

The “E” suffix does not imply budget handsets, but rather a generation shift. First, it was Cxxxx then Dxxxx and now Exxxx

  • Vignesh Raja

I’m very much impressed with Sony’s support towards it Z series phone. But what about remaining? My Xperia C3 has worst camera quality. Too much software patch up. So I feel that if Sony have fewer phones in their line up, may be they can concentrate on making existing phones better which improves consumer satisfaction, a indirect way which leads brand development and profits. Also Sony have been slow(little bit) in giving what consumer wants. Like we wanted IPS panels with Z series, Sony gave us that from Z2. There are certain things which matter to some people like smaller bezels ( Which is not my concern), 32Gb internal storage etc… So if Sony can cut its costs by reducing number of phones, may be they can use their saving in R&D and give what we want. Again, all these are just my personal opinions.

  • Alex Norris

You asked me how i know what about Sony does with its smartphone sensors and respective lenses?

In order to understand it does not have to be an employee of Sony.. And about curved sensor, there talked about a more simple lens system, but not cheaper…, this is big difference.

Then answer me one question .. Why Sony puts in their QX camera`s, expensive Zeiss optic system,http://static.bhphoto.com/images/images500x500/1002614.jpg and in Xperia smartphones, only G lenses…? and in their Xperia`s, only G – lenses…?

they’re looking at the numbers after the E, the “21XX”

  • Sibtain

    Here’s what it should be:-
    – Xperia Z4 with 5.5″ screen, S810, 4GB RAM, Adreno 420, 2K Screen
    – Xperia Z4 Compact with 4.7″ screen, S810, 4GB RAM, Adreno 420, 1080p Screen
    – Mid-range Xperia M4 with 5.0″ screen, S800, 2GB RAM, Adreno 330, 720p or 1080p screen
They all run Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, regular updates, Sony doesn’t put out more phones, M4 has 13MP Camera (Xperia Z sensor), Z4 and Z4 Compact have 41MP Camera with a new sensor, mostly metal design

  • Vuyo Ncube

Ah yes I misread what Sony said about the implied lenses in a curved sensor. You didn’t answer my questions still. How do you know what Sony does with its sensors and lenses for its own phones and its competitors/customers? Do you have proof that Xperias get “simpler sensors” and cheaper lenses than their competitors’ respective counterparts? Is G Lens even used in all Xperias? Who uses Zeiss and who uses G Lens?

For example, many chinese OEMs, Samsung, LG and Motorola use the IMX214 and IMX135 (13 MP) yet Sony Mobile hasn’t used either sensor themselves since the T2 Ultra (a midranged phablet so no useful comparison is possible). Only Meizu has used the Z1/Z2/Z3’s IMX220 sensor. Did you find differences in their respective lenses and sensors? Also Apple uses a custom IMX145 and there is no Xperia flagship 8 MP camera and thus no useful comparison of any sort. And I’ll ask again. Are our complaints about image processing software mistaken?

I can’t answer your question about the QX100 because the QX100 uses the RX100’s much larger 1″ sensor and exact same Zeiss lenses, not a small smartphone sensor. It’s easy to assume Sony was just saving time and money

There hasn’t been a meaningful comparison of price and quality between Carl Zeiss and G Lens in smartphones (that I’m aware of). Have you come across such a comparison or are you just rambling?

  • Alex Norris

Apple uses the module from Sony, but the module is not the whole camera, also has lenses, and post-processing . Apple uses better lenses, and better post-processing, than Sony with their G-lenses . Therefore, even previous 8mp. iphone 5s, beats new xperia Z3 . i couldn’t say that Mx4 has great shots, but colors, imo better and not has overexposed images like on Sony Have you heard about Vivo Xshot ….? This is a Chinese smartphone uses 13 mp. Sony sensor, but it shoots better than 20 mp. Z2-Z3 camera. because Xshot has more quality optic system and good software . About Meizu MX4, i can say that MX4 camera is great, but post-processing algoritms are better than on Sony. And how about the new OPPO N3 .. it seems to me, it easily defeated camera Xpeia Z3 http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/4693/199714/

Note 4 it has sony sensor, but Note 4 shots better, why…?, even in night mode Note 4 little better than Z3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llCc5S4UwoQ

So I answered your question .)

  • Vuyo Ncube

There is a diversity of factors in image quality (ISPs, software, lenses, hardware etc.). You simply said “everyone’s better than Sony so Xperia lenses must be lower quality” without demonstrating any specific evidence that points to the lenses as a problem.

In the video, the GN4 won overall based on dynamic range, contrast and colour temperature. How do those aspects point to the lenses as the issue or was it an ISP issue or a software issue? As a side note, the Z3 won in autofocus in both speed and accuracy so that further blurs your apparent lenses issue.

Your Oppo article was a comparison of the N3’s UltraHD mode (50 MP pictures stitched by software) to the Z3 Compact’s manual mode. And the N3 uses an Omnivision camera. You’re spouting unspecific examples and avoiding my questions. If you are uncomfortable or incapable of answering my questions, simply say so.

  • Alex Norris

I’m not saying that everything is better than Sony, but most of the examples shows that Sony camera – is middle camera, and I have shown you enough reasons to make sure my words, and you do not see the obvious fact, and fact that if xperia camera`s would have good expensive lenses, Sony showed us much more good results!. And i see you do not often shoot at the camera and do not understand where are quality lenses, and where is cheaper optic sistem… So, I explain to you, the pictures which has are poor dynamic range and artifacts related to cameras – with cheap lenses system! sXperia cameras , bad details This test between N3 and Z3, there shots are not 60mp, only 16 mp., look again, the same crops. You simply do not want to agree with me.
    Special for you:
    http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Camera-comparison-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4-vs-iPhone-6-iPhone-6-Plus-Sony-Xperia-Z3-LG-G3-Galaxy-S5-Galaxy-Note-3_id3822

  • Vuyo Ncube

So your answer is “dude, it’s obvious”? You haven’t SPECIFIED if the choice of sensor and lenses are an issue. Yes, I see the bad dynamic range and artifacts but nowhere do your sources SPECIFY what the actual problem was. You’re not being SPECIFIC. Image quality is influenced by several factors including the sensor and lenses but you have failed to provide a SPECIFIC case of cheaper sensors and lenses used in Xperias. How many times do I have to type “SPECIFIC” before you understand my question? This isn’t about agreeing or disagreeing with you. I’m not arguing with you but you think I am. I’m asking a specific question. You simply haven’t provided an answer.

    Sony, please make a flagship of T-serie (T4, T5…)
    with full spec.:
    – 4,6″-5″ IPS display, Top CPU,
    – OTG+MHL,
    – soft touch plastic, arc design,
    etc …

  • I’ll add an IR blaster, much thinner bezels and non-flap waterproof USB port (USB Type C, of course because it’s reversible.) Titanium (or any scratch/dent resistant metallic material.

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Did I say Sony will release the Z4 at CES?? No,I don’t think so..Looking back,I kept on mentioning of the Z4 will be released at MWC as it’s the beginning of theories fiscal year

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Not with waterproofing they can..But I have to admit, the bezels have reduced a lot since the Original Z..except the Z2 of course..But with stereo speakers and waterproofing, it would be hard to get a near bezelless phone..
