Xperia Z4 to come in FHD and Quad HD variants?

in Rumours, Xperia Z4 and Z3+ series

Xperia Z3 angleTaiwanese site ePrice has weighed in on rumours for the Xperia Z4, which is expected to be announced in early march at the MWC tradeshow. They speculate that Sony is planning on releasing two variants of the device – one which will feature a 5.2-inch 1080p Full HD resolution display to be released in selected markets such as Europe and Asia. The second variant will sport a Quad HD resolution display (2560 x 1440 pixels), but will only launch in the United States.

Other rumours include the Xperia Z4 supporting an exposed water-resistant micro USB port – no more flap covers, which will be great news if true. Sony already has an exposed 3.5mm headphone jack, so doing the same for the USB port is a natural extension. ePrice also claims that Sony will do away with the magnetic charging pins, however they don’t mention whether this means Sony will include wireless charging in the Xperia Z4.

In terms of design, the report says that the Xperia Z4 will adopt a glossy metal finish and that a blue variant will also be produced. The front-facing camera is also expected to be improved. Obviously there is still a long time before Sony officially unveils the handset, plenty of time for more substantive rumours before release.

  • Xperia user

wow..hope Z4 price would not be so expensive when it released this march…

  • MMAREK

    don’t be naive..

  • DBS

Meh. I only care for the Compact line but still, none of this is a reason for me to upgrade. 32GB of internal storage+SD card and built in Qi charging are those. OIS is also a very good incentive though I think no Sony phone will ever replace the Nokia 808/1020 I also carry for photos.

  • Mazzy

I really hope they keep the magnetic charging port

    1. way better using that to charge the phone than a flimsy micro usb that breaks easily.

    2. I’ve already invested into the ecosystem with a XSP-N1BT for my car so I’ll be quite annoyed and won’t buy any additional peripherals for Xperia devices if Sony’s not going to bother supporting them anyway.

  • azzido

Again the same design, I am bored with this already, time for changes.

  • Lukáš Pávl

Well i only hope for a great phone with reasonable price. Am I expecting too much?
And design is still good even if it is same for 4 generations.

  • nogo

End of the line for me with Xperia phones if I’m sold an inferior model just for living outside the US. I’ll go with another brand.

  • Ritwij

This might turn out to be great because there already is a lot of debate on FHD vs QHD on a smartphone. Everyone will be happy if both are launched!

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Who knows, maybe Sony could make some better looking Qi charging stands than the magnetic docking ones they have now

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

As long as Sony can keep the same battery life from the Z3 and Z3 Compact in a quad HD device that would be great. And in that sense further extend the battery life of the 1080 P Z4

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Even if the battery lasts much longer?

  • zymo

This! better battery life + cheaper price than QHD version and (almost) everybody is happy.

  • Phat-t

That’s not the actual pic of the Z4 bud

  • InspectorGadget80

Looks like I find my next Z phone. Unless Samsung can change my mind. Already have my Z1 for 2 years STILL KICKING. Good thing I skipped everything.

  • Nawi

    Inferior model?

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Hopefully Sony won’t just release the quad HD here in the states, but everywhere else. Same with the 1080p version. Give everyone a chance to buy what they want. Of course if they do sell the 1080p version here in the states it should prolly be thought their store and not on contract. Most times people here go for whatever “sounds” good, like 4k over 1080

  • Nawi

    OMG! that button bar xD

1080p versión for me =) .I prefer battery endurance

  • jonyah

I don’t really see the need for the higher resolution. I’d take a longer batter if that’s the tradeoff. I also love the magnetic charger. I haven’t opened the microusb flap more than a few times ever because of it. I could only do without it if they provided a proper wireless charging system.

  • Ivan

“Other rumours include the Xperia Z4 supporting an exposed water-resistant micro USB port – no more flap covers, which will be great news if true” SERIOUSLY…? This would be a very big mistake for the design! I don’t like to see holes… If they do it my next phone is not going to be a Z4.

  • ????????

i want lollipop for my Xperia T2 Ultra

  • yuskhayru

Sony must do something about battery life for thier Xperia Z series. Battery life is going sucks every time they update the android version.

  • RealityCheck2015

Wireless charging would be COOL :P

  • Adam

Going beyond 1080p on a five inch screen is stupid. The human eye cannot make out that much detail, and using those extra pixels to show more picture instead of a better picture will make everything too small.

But an exposed, waterproof USB port? That’s useful. My current phone will still be too new when the Xperia Z4 is released, but if the Xperia Z4 and its succesors have one, that’s one of the things that’ll get me to buy Sony again when it is time to replace my current phone. Especially if Qi wireless.charging is built-into that phone.

  • Makiz

I carry a QX10 for better photos, it has an incredible 10X zoom :P

  • Billy de Fretes

i really hope Z4 will bring something different than previous Z models, since it’s not launched in CES like the first Z and Z2… and lets just hope that 2 cycle per years ended this years.
It’s good decision by hold until MWC so there will be element of surprise when against samsung, htc, lg because there’s no real leak until these day only rumors about Z4.

Full HD still good but exposed USB port is a excellent improvement for Z series and i will replace my 2 years old Z to this one

  • Rodney

Oh ffs… Honestly, when I see Quad HD on a 5″ screen i just can’t take the pointless stupidity. There is absolutely no benefit to such a screen and it only cripples the battery life and gpu performance. How many people will actually see the difference ? 5% ? And how many people will benefit from increased battery life ? 100%…

Quad battery please, not gimmicky quad hd.

  • DBS

    Well the QX10 isn’t really a camera, it’s a lens =P

  • Makiz

Well… Attach it on a smartphone and voila!

  • DBS

Except you cant attach it to the Z3C for example, as Sony has not provided the back covers for the QX lenses since the Z1.

  • ?? ???

No QHD for Europe? Really? Lol.. FHD can kiss my ass and so can Sony (if true).

  • ?? ???

My human eyes CAN see a clear difference (differences in pixel count) between the Z3, LGG3, iPhone 6, Nexus 4 5 & 6 etc etc.. Sony need to start competing before their 5% market share deteriorates further..

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

I hope sony will introduce more new things in software dept maybe a split screen option. Quad hd is ok for me if it comes with proper good batt life. Wide angle go pro look alike also sounf very cool for camera apps … :-)

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

Qx lens do come with clips :-)

  • Guest

I know they are just rumors but it seems finally Sony has got some sense their in head, premium model for the US. Here come the America bashing. Lol

  • With these awesome improvements, I’m waiting for the z6 in 2016.

  • naciye

one might have s805 other 810.

  • Dexter Moregan

Why do you want FHD while the highest resolution of most videos in the Internet is still 1080p (Full HD)

  • Jonathan Bratanata

    Z2 was announced at mwc,
    2014, z1c was released at ces 2014

  • skrug

Maybe the difference you see is the size of the display. Bigger display bigger icons, easier to see =P

  • webusermy

    +1 to this.

I have my magnetic cable hooked up to my phone holder in my car. I can just slot my phone into the dock and it charges. Makes for a very easy one handed charging experience as it just clips into place. USB would require a 2nd hand to actually get it in, and wireless is still far too slow at charging to be able to support phone usages in cars (GPS Navigation + Screen Always On + Spotify Streaming + Bluetooth Audio).

  • Hoya

Well… at least if they retain the flaps, whenever you forget to close the flaps, it’s still waterproof

  • duke1

Look at that top and bottom bezel on that phone. If they increase the screen size, a 5.5+ inch screen Xperia will no longer fit in our pockets.

  • dimz

Tbh, I’d prefer they kept the dimensions the same, just put full hd on the compact and quad on the full size version, and USB 3.1 with the Type C plug.

  • Vuyo Ncube

    Good.

The FHD Z4 might undercut and will outpace other QHD flagships in developing markets. If Sony bothers to keep price down. At least 5 dollars down.

The QHD Z4 will merely ‘keep up’ with other flagships in developed markets. Because QHD LCDs under 6 inches make sooooooo much sense.

  • ck

this will be very cool… as i too love the charging dock. my z1 functions as my desk clock in my room with the dock. and it also function as my gps in my car wit the dock. a wireless charging dock like accessory will be a nice replacement for the current charging dock

  • You’re Wrong

A lens with an imaging sensor built in. Yeah, it’s a compact camera.

  • z4

right now I still have the xz. I’d be glad if there were a bigger improvement from xz3 to this one than from xz2 to xz3. It’ll be amazing anyways since I’m upgrading.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I prefer the lollipop nav buttons, these are really ugly.

  • Rifqi Al Fariz

The ridicoulus part probably fullHD with 16gb for asia, and QHD with 32gb for the rest. Mind-blown.

  • no more flaps and color blue is the best part of this rumor :D

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

That’s sad. Xperia Z2 takes exceptional pictures. :D

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

Its a theme or custom launcher lol

  • Nawi

    Yes. I think so too

  • ZXcorr

They do need to work on their front camera. It’s really bad.

  • Nawi

    I don’t think so :P
They know we all want Snapdragon 810

  • DBS

My Z3C takes even better than the Z2. However none of them reach the quality of the 808 and 1020. They simply don’t. And it’s entirely Sony’s fault. They have the tech, they just don’t bother to produce a really good camera phone.

  • xperiax10.awesome

finally I switched from Xperia Z2 to Google Nexus 6 and m loving it !! enough of Sony for me..was using Sony since Xperia X10 :-)

  • ????????

    Please Sony

    Change the camera icon !!!

  • Guk

If only somehow their Cybershot and Alpha camera line go bankrupt, then Sony probably will start to implant their Cybershot and Alpha camera algorithm to Xperia phones

  • ????????

    i hope change camera icon
    in lollipop Update

  • Tjaldid

great decisions (except for making 2 models) getting rid of the magnets (hopefully in favour of wireless charging) will help streamline the design and removing the often complained about flimsy plastic flap will only help the build quality

  • Cris de Oliveira

and dialer icon, so horrible xD

  • Adam

Assuming that this rumor is true, this “quad HD in the United States” thing is probably at the insistance of one of the mobile carriers that will be carrying the Xperia Z4. American mobile carriers have a history of demanding all sorts of changes to phones from phone makers.

  • xperiafan324

For me, so long as the z4 comes with a 5.2″ JDI OLED with a snapdragon 810 yicking inside, I don’t really care what else they put in it. :-)

  • Exposed USB???

I thought the magnetic charging port was a pretty handy design. Not perfect by any means like when not using the doc, it’ll fall off.

An exposed USB port, would that be a similar technology as liquidpel?
    http://www.liquipel.com/
If it’s a similar technology, the coating may get worn off overtime from plugging the usb cable in and out for charging and what not.

imho I’m still kinda in favor of a magnetic charging port with a sealed USB option tbh

  • EHHhch Deee

You do realise FHD == Full HD == 1080p/i?

  • Ben Ling

The picture above shows the Xperia Z3 with Xperia Theme CircleVaganza, not the Z4.

  • Ritwij

Exactly. Battery life is on the top of my priority list too.

  • Ritwij

    Happy realisation, genius.

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Says who??I know a lot of people on here that still gets great battery life with every update of android.. My Z for still seems to maintain its battery life too despite even heavier usage..

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

I’m sure Japan is sure to get, as well as India and Indonesia due to relatively strong support..

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

I’m with you. or like the S5 Mini..It uses a type of rubber o-ring to,don’t know how it works but I read that off somewhere last time..

  • Ritwij

That’s kinda true. The battery backup on my Xperia Z degraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 but got a lot better on 4.3, even better than 4.1.2 and now again on 4.4.4, it’s on the lower side. Same goes for my Xperia Z2, little worse on 4.4.4 as compared to 4.4.2.

  • Ritwij

It’s not even been 1.5 years since Z1 was launched. Are you a Sony staff?

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

How many of you actually broke your USB port?If so..What was your usage pattern.. I for one has been using a Z for 2 years now..Or almost..and my charging pattern includes 3 times a day charging

  • Ahmed Ghorab

then why put the flaps in first place ?? they will only remove the flap for USB (The one for Sim is still there)

  • Ahmed Ghorab

you only see the different in screen quality not Pixel count and about your list of screens IPhone 6 > Z3 > G3 > Nexus 6 > 5 > 4

so the Z3 screen is really good

  • Ahmed Ghorab

i agree i would like to have a QHD on a 10 inch at least (where i can see the difference) but on a 5 Inch Display naaah

  • Ahmed Ghorab

i broke the flip but the USB port is live and kicking (my usage is from 1-2 times/day).

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Unlucky then..My rubber is still strong and I know it will hold for a long time

  • David Chow

same speakers location? i hate the speaker design like Z3

  • parental92

For fuck sake, it is the z3 mate! It’s just a mock up picture of the predicted improvement. Nobody knows how the z4 week look like (yet)

  • Makiz

    I still got the zoom

  • DBS

Those Nokias have it too. Just not mechanical but that’s irrelevant as the final result is what matters ;)

  • 3rdflyleaf

water resistant port + flaps would be great. So you can use the usb port even after submerging it to water without worrying if there’s still water in it.

  • alex

I dnt like the looks, boring now. Better be qhd for all countries too.

  • Mashaan Alabdulaziz

only if no flaps port mean full metal sides…I don’t mind

  • Sean

Why don’t you just use another launcher, where you can change all the icons???

  • yuskhayru

I think u just bought your Z yesterday. Am i right?

  • Yasir Fawad

Z4 will be visually brilliant, just was the arc.

  • Dexter Moregan

    Corrected. ;)

  • Raj Singh

I don’t mind the flaps. I like the sides not having open ports, just smooth lines.

  • Pingback: Xperia Z4 Full HD Akan Segera Dirilis Di Asia Dan Eropa()

  • AsadMulla

Agree. I would like only usb and headphones jack exposed for convenience

  • Pingback: ???????? Sony ????????? ????????? 2 ?????? ????????? Xperia Z4 | IT-Info()

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Nope.. Far from it..I bought it on May 2013.. If need be,I’ll show the receipt given by the dealer

  • Little SonyFan
  • Rodrigo Silva Dos Santos

So, if they took off the flaps for a exposed USB port your next device won’t be the Z4, but some other device with exposed USB port instead, probably not water resistant. It makes a lot of sense…

  • Rodrigo Silva Dos Santos

Actually, the answer to ” How many people will actually see the difference ?” is zero. The human eye can’t see more than about 230 dpi. We’re talking about over 500 here…

  • Depends on the price of the inferior model… anyway, I agree with you… not a good strategy, unless they’re forced to do so because they don’t have enough QHD displays available.

  • Rodney

I agree. But there are always some poeple who claim they can see it… So, whatever floats their boat – I still don’t believe it.

  • Timel

You want Lolipop but I want Sony to stop making shitty toys like Xperia Z phones/tablets and get out of mobile market LoL

The mobile market has no space for weak company like Sony Mobile, there’s only Apple, Samsung and Chinese brands like Hauwei and Xiaomi

So Sony needs to stop wasting their money with Xperia devices, which have crappy camera, crappy display, crappy sound, less innovative features and still stuck with the same old design until fifth genegation

Sony Xperia will never can get any attention from costumers, never ever!

So Sorry for Sony Mobile, for their shitty products and blind fanboys here

  • James Earl Jones

Could you repeat that gibberish in English, perhaps?

  • Who are you employed by? Whoever it is should ask for their money back.

  • Mijic

There is NO need to ask that troll to repeat himself, it’s all he does all day!

  • XPERIAN

    Spot on!

Sony is dying slowly everday this is fact whether blind fanboys want to admit it or not

  • For me the most important thing is that Sony should improve the sound and camera quality.

  • Supriyo

Kudos to you man. You have so much patience to visit this site everyday and comment (negate) on Sony Xperia. I believe you love the attention with your comments.

Any other brand sites you post your hate speech? Or am I smelling any conspiracy from other brands?

  • ????????

    dear Timel …

    Shut your mouth

  • Aiden Pearce

Yup i would agree on that…sound is the shitiest part in Xperia Smartphones…my old Xperia Neo V sounds clear and crisp on audio than my Z3 with dual speakers…
I hate their policy of giving not so good audio on phones to sell their so called walkmans…

  • Aiden Pearce

Luckily i switched to magnetic charging cable…but flap is kinda lose as i used it for almost 2 months for charging with usb cable

  • DarkLord

  • djsilentg

or it could be the z5 depending on whether they release 2 flagship this year

  • DarkLord

    ,,,

  • Aiden Pearce

imo the wireless charging is the best option for newer xperias..Sony should really consider that..if they can make one for Z3v Verizon why cant they for all newer premium Xperias…but also xposed usb is way better than magnetic …since nor genuine cables nor docks are available in stores till this long the phone is in market and the third party accessories are hit and miss…

  • Aiden Pearce

yup battery like kinda suck in Z series..every update seems to be more power hungry ..lets hope Lollipop wont do that..

  • Aiden Pearce

true but not everyone fancies launchers as they sometimes dont work fluently as system launchers

  • Aiden Pearce

better we should opt for wireless charging than usb ports…wont it save us from hassle of wires…no magnetic port just wireless and usb port will be better imo

  • Paolo Armadoro

    It will arrive?

  • Rene Pedroso

Why not just get rid of the USB port in it’s entirety. It is not needed for charging, so what is it’s purpose? If it is solely to transfer data then Sony already has Xperia Transfer. Just update the app to transfer wirelessly. As far as the Micro SD and the Sim cards I would increase the internal storage to 128GB and ship the device with the end users selection of carrier. No ports at all.

  • jokensy

Those ‘flimsy’ plastic flaps will still exist to protect the nano sim card and micro sd card…unless they come up with some miracle solutions to make those two things water proof.

  • ryq24

With the rising popularity of mid range phones with premium specs Sony will have to think hard on their pricing in order to survive otherwise they will continue to fail.

  • LiterofCola

    you’re still an idiot.

  • kaostheory

I use the magnetic cable too. I’m going to be the only one that will miss the flap over the usb as I’ve destroyed a few with dust and dirt.

  • Aiden Pearce

i think those will be dust and water resistant ….so no worry about damaging with dust and all

  • Snorky112

I can see a difference until +- 320dpi, after that I can say that the picture is somehow clearer, but not that much

  • Hoya

    for STYLE!!!! of course:v

  • Battal Aljadei

Sony’s transformed Walkman from hardware feature to a software app which’s the biggest mistake of Sony !

  • Serdar Aytamaner

One of the biggest selling points of the Xperia Z series is the smooth & fluent design and flaps were/are a great contributor to this. Without them, it would be harder to achieve the same stylish result. As for losing the magnetic charging pins, I’m sure many people would be missing them, including myself. I guess I should buy the Z3 to replace my Z, before it becomes extinct.

  • Tjaldid

you don’t have to access those as often so it wont be a noticeable annoyance

  • Timel

no! and your sony phone sucks!

  • Aiden Pearce

the customers reacted to same when Sony decided to remove the flap from Headset connector but that is one of the nice thing they did to Z series..Z owners can say that themselves how annoying is it to a music lover who doubles up the phone as music player(me too)..open usb will be better..imo..and more better if they switch it to bottom rather than on side..

  • Aiden Pearce

Software optimization is also not so great..just so called ClearAudio+ crackles the speakers in my Z3 when switched on..and with OFF its like mute very low audio in media player….XLoud in Z2 was better…i still think my Z2 speakers are more loud than Z3…lets hope Z4 beats us to that…

  • Timel

Exposed port is such a great move

I think all brainless fanboys gotta care about is Camera and Sound quality of Xperia flagship phone which is very fucking horrible and seriously need to improve!

  • lunkz

they should put back the notification LED to the speakers back, like the Z1 and Z2.
That black point looks stupid, besides the bigger one.

  • Jiyeon90

    This niggah knows what’s up

  • Jiyeon90

That’s some bullshit apple came up with, I can see the difference up till 400 PPI, anything above that is pointless.

  • Hoya

why put the flaps in first place? probably they just recently found the way to make waterproof USB.
unlike USB, we rarely change Sim card unless you’re the type to change phone number a lot, and thus only the USB that gets waterproof, I think that’s what SONY thinks

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

Lol… What years you are right now? Sony already ready to reveal z4 and you still talking about xpz ?? Come on dude sony already making changes and fix most everything. From tft to ips, from plastic to metal frame, from small sensor to a bigger sensor ( software dept still need to be enhanced ) and more what xperia z should had already being projected to current z series flagship. Regarding the design the company you mentioning still release same design form factor till now.

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

I hope sony will find other way solution. Open usd sound cool but how about time limit to wait for usb port to dry out before plug in.

  • ????????

and your SAMSUNG phone sucks !

  • User2080

unfortunately, these review sites and many stupid buyers give weight to that quad hd display stupidity. the z3 was given a lower score by phonearena partly because of the 1080p display.

it’s a good compromise for sony to release 2 versions. the lower resolution is for the more discerning buyers.

  • DonRox

well if the micro USB port sits at the bottom of the phone (where personnaly i think it should be) then it wouldn’t be a design mistake

  • David Hvatov

Totally agree with you! Would be awesome!

  • Hasan Aleadani

    TOTALLY AGREE

  • Fynjy7771

Agreed! Putting notification LED to the speakers was great idea, it looks beautiful and was feature of Xperia flagships. Such ideas make Sony stylish and premium looking. I don’t understand why Sony moved back by putting this LED dot on top bezel in Z3.

  • thoughts

With the z1 There is always dirt in that hole that stops reflecting the led light, i prefer the x10i notification light style.

  • thoughts

Flaps are ok, it keeps the holes clean, and the looks great, the flaps are easily removed, it is a matter of a second, flaps are ok.

  • Nawi

    Yes. Trolls love that

  • Fynjy7771

Speaker gap on Z1 is wider, than on Z2, and LED strip on Z1 is shorter, than on Z2. Perhaps, these are reasons, why I don’t have such problem with dirt on Z2’s speakers.

  • SonyFan

    I’d rather take the FHD…

    better battery life
    less gpu/cpu rendering = > phone doesn’t heat up

and no visible difference between FHD and Quad-HD…

and FHD will be cheaper i think ….

    don’t u agree me?

  • gasdgasdgsad

FHL? There are still plenty of uses for USB. ;)

  • sdfasdfasd

What?! You are insane man! HTC and Sony produces the best devices on market. It’s not their fault (or maybe it is, due to marketing) they don’t sell as good as they deserve. Now, Samstream?? .l.

  • ?? ???

The highest resolution for most videos on the internet is actually still in SD – you’re of course welcome to have a sub 480p screen on your phone if you so desire Dexter

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

I know that feeling.. Mine is too..but I know that it’s just how rubber is after some initial use..even when it doesn’t feel as tight anymore, water still doesn’t get in..it’s just part of how seals work

  • Timel

No! Samsung Note 4 has the great camera, great sound quality(good speaker with wolfson DAC), the best display so far, the S-pen and also packed with many useful software features like Note, multi windows/split screen and etc.

Z3 is much worse than Note 4, beautiful design is only good thing that Shitty phone like Z3 has

  • Nawi

    Totally agree =)

    I prefer FHD version

  • Mokhtar Mouhib

What about the camera ? The new sensor ?

  • ck

    note4…
speaker at the back? oh please… that is so so yesteryear
s-pen… maybe it’s a good substitute for toothpicks
    useful software… more like bloatware
not to mention many user reported battery drain as hell and weaker signal even when compare to note3

  • Billy de Fretes

    ahh… thank you

  • Timel

LoL I’m so pity you… That you’re too blind and bias I know it hurts and hard to admit the truth that Sony gave their costumers nothing except lie, marketing hype and trashy features

For sample, the unbelievable suck camera quality, the horrible auto mode, even manual mode it’s still worst than Note 4 and Lumia 1020

, Sony gave the Shit sound quality to Xperia phone by using WALKMAN name but do nothing, no good DAC, no good speaker, no good headphone except stupid software like Walkman app which is just normal and brainless fans still lie themselves that their Xperia phones have good sound quality than others LoL

Shitty Z3, No have useful features like S pen and its Note ability, no have multitasking features like multi windows / split screen

Sony Xperia z3 is just a shitty beautiful touchscreen phone while we can pridely call the Samsung Note 4 is “smartphone”

Don’t follow phone arena, they’re just a bunch of stupid spec hungry people. they just take a slightest rumour and blow it out of proportion, remember 5,5 inch qid xperia z4 rumour?

  • Multiple resolutions .. Sounds like Z4 will receive HD while Z4 Ultra gets QHD.

  • Jeff Martinez

5.2″ with Qhd, I really hope so.

  • Hayo

Extra protection would be nice afterall

i can’t fathom why do you come here everytime? your wall of text doesn’t change anything.. not even a single extra Note 4 sales.

Let him be, it’s his job afterall. I don’t wanna see him starving because he stop doing Negative Campaign on Sony.

  • parental92

Would be totally awesome if the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone just like galaxy nexus. It’s simply the correct place for it to be

The best solution there is! Word man

  • This is my checklist for the next Sony phone the Xperia Z4. While it’s totally impossible for Sony to put all these things at once, taking these additions into consideration and maybe implementing half of them in their next flagship will be the best thing they’ve ever done, and I WILL replace my Xperia Z3 if they do so:

1- Snapdragon 810. 805 is too old. Sony, don’t do the same mistake you did with the Z3.
2- 5″/5.2″ Quad HD screen preferable, maybe AMOLED. But 1080p is OK.
3- 4 GB RAM preferable, 3GB is OK.
4- IR Blaster. This is a must. Most 2013/2014 phones had it so why not now.
5- Waterproofed flap-less Micro USB port (Maybe the new reversible C-Type) at the middle bottom like iPhones.
6- At least 32GB internal storage with 64GB/128GB variants.
7- A better sensor, lens, and image processing. Even though it’s good now, it’s not the best. It is slow in focus and shutter speeds, and it is very soft. iPhones take super fast and sharp shots the first time but with the Z3 I struggle to make sure it isn’t blurry. Better front camera.
8- Fast charging and same battery life as the Z3, or better if Sony wants to wow everyone.
9- Better durability. The aluminium edges and plastic corners of the Z3 scratch easily, and the glass panels are delicate. Why not use tougher metals and better glass? Maybe add a unibody metal structure like the HTC One M8. Drop resistance is needed too.
10- Smaller bezels. Please just make them as narrow as the LG G3 and everyone’s happy.
11- A fingerprint scanner, like Touch ID. Place it on the bottom bezel and you’ve got an awesome new way to easily and safely unlock your phone. Copy Apple, no one cares.
12- More software features, just add the useful ones. No gimmiks.

Extra icing on the cake: Better/louder speakers. OIS. Xenon flash. Faster software updates. Wider availability (within the USA and out). Pencil touch support. Better overheat control. Better marketing. The LED notif. light from the Xperia ZL… and of course, 240 fps slow-mo.

The connectors are exposed, therefore vulnerable to dust same as they’ve always been. It won’t be able to enter the phone through the port. Dust and dirt will wear out the connectors over time and won’t be a part that can be fixed.

  • Jumbo

Dude, these are just rumors for now… need to chill.

  • rikimaru

I agree with you, but I think if sony don’t people will do something like.

    z4 1080p
    S6 2k screen
so S6 is better let’s take it.

This is ridiculous but I saw that everyday, and I spend my time to explain why it’s useless. Idiot marketing…. I hope Sony can keep 1080p and point in force why 2k screen is bullshit on a smartphone…

Z3 screen already show that 2K lg screen was useless, but again most people don’t know… the communication is the problem…

  • Dean Weaver

1080 looks fine to me – if quad HD means shorter battery life – NO THANKS

  • Rodrigo Silva Dos Santos

Science says I can’t see more than 230 dpi. I believe in Science, and I don’t care if Apple agrees with Science or not. Samsung once told us that we could see as many dpi as they which to sell us, and many of us believed it.

  • Rodrigo Silva Dos Santos

So the flap will be only a ugly useless piece on your phone. :)
