Sony BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard_4Sony has announced the Bluetooth Keyboard BKB50 for the Xperia Z4 Tablet. The keyboard has a special hinge that allows the tablet to easily dock with the tablet. The docking station allows the tablet to be ‘closed’ shut just like a real laptop. It also has a 0-130 degree tilt to find that comfortable viewing angle.

When it is docked, Sony has introduced a special quick application launcher on the tablet (similar to the Windows Start menu) so that you can check your recent apps. The keyboard has an integrated touchpad, NFC for pairing and switches for the power button and Bluetooth.

The keyboard has a 430 mAh battery, good for a one-month battery according to Sony (typing 2 hours/day) and can be recharged using a micro USB port. A battery indicator light is also included to let you know if you’re about to run out of power. The BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard is relatively lightweight at 383 grams and seems like a great solution for the power users out there.

This is actually a very good accessory. Well done Sony. They now have a high end tablet and a very good midrange phone. Now for the Z4!

  • ash_k29

Amazing… The design is just beautiful. And with that Snapdragon 810, it certainly is stronger than several laptops out there in the market!

    What about Lollipop?

Yay separate internal battery! I wish it could charge the tablet though.

  • Tim Rox Westerholm

I don’t know man. Hopefully this week. I’m glad that Sony doesn’t stress when it comes to Lollipop. I think we’re going to receive a smooth and fresh version very soon.

  • Marlish

Can you atleast play call of duty on it. No.
Then its not a laptop and never will be.

  • goldenblls

Nice, but why didn’t they make it with an integrated 5000 maH portable charger too.

  • Niels d. G.

I want something like this for my Z2 tablet.

  • heheh

I guess there’s no chance it’ll be compatible with z2 tablet right? because then they’d sell less z4 ones. Hopefully it might work anyway. z4 is only 0.3 mm thinner than the z2.

  • Paul M

considering the nexus 9 folio keyboard is far from cheap (GB£110 – about US$170 – ouch!!!), I would guess Sony will charge US$100 ish.

Of course I can, with my PS4!! :-D

  • slkc

Finally a keyboard dock… it’s got a touchpad which looks great… and we could plug in a mouse receiver beside the tablet… at lease it’s better than Tablet Z

  • Would’ve probably got it if it were running windows..

  • this will come very handy.

  • wert

Where are Z4 and Z5 smartphones? I wanted to buy Z3 but it still cost almost 600€ which is ridiculous consdering it has only Snapdragon 801

  • User2080

it definitely will be compatible. it’s only a bluetooth keyboard.

  • Kaostheory

. 3mm difference in thickness, probably won’t fit.

Did you see the accompanying bt speaker? Another beautiful design!

  • Niels d. G.

Snapdragon 801 is still a very good chipset.

  • Rammstone

And what is the price? $200?

But it’s very outdated compared to 805 and 810

  • Nawi

    Well done Sony!
    Great accessory

  • Lunkz

Yeah, Sony does the same as Apple with the accessories prices…

  • Omarion07

So Sony France just released the price for this piece of cheap plastic… It’s 180 euros!!!

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

I hope this is compatible with its predecessor xperia z2 tablet

  • Stephen

so z4 tablet is waterproof but keyboard is not, sony wtf

  • El_Carnicero

“outdated” in what capability? No game out there will not run on the 801 perfectly fine and happily.

  • El_Carnicero

It may not be a PC, but it is a laptop, by the definition that you can comforatbly use it on your lap. ;)

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

I know but this one is overpriced and I already have the official case the one for the z4 tab is more like a dock where it sort of clips on to the tab

  • El_Carnicero

Time to upgrade to the Z4 tablet then and support Sony with your $$$. ;)

  • met_8

Aw is someome missing making laptops? They shouldn’t have sold Vaio :(

  • terra

you may not believe it but there are people who don’t change their smartphones every half year – and if they spend so much money they want their device to be futureproof
why should I buy device with 801 when for the same price I got better hardware? to hear that I won’t get Android update because i’ve got to old CPU?

“The BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard is relatively lightweight at 383 grams”

Pure Marketing, it’s actually ridiculously heavy. Weighs the same as the Z4 without a Display and with less than 1/10 the battery. Also, it seems to bend easily. Besides the weight, the price is heavily overpriced, you get similar products for 20-50€ (which are mostly lighter!). Of course without the ability to physically link it to the Z4, but 100€ is seriously enough for this very mediocore accessory.

The Z4 Tablet itsself is great : )
