Sony releases Xperia Theme Creator tool

Sony Xperia Theme Creator BETASony Mobile has launched a beta version of the “Theme Creator”, which allows developers to design their own Xperia Theme for Sony devices. The Theme Creator allows users to customise over 300 graphical assets like icons, buttons and home screen wallpaper.

Once you’re happy with your design, one click is all that is needed to create the APK file to install onto your Sony Xperia device. If you think your theme is a work of art, you can contact Sony who may promote it to all Sony Xperia devices through the default theme picker.

The free java application is available to download from today at the source link below. It works together with Adobe Photoshop CS6, allowing you to create and export graphics to be fine tuned in the Theme Creator BETA. Check out the video below, which gives you a quick tour of the application.

Let’s get the party started !

  • peterpaus

gonna create my own 5.0 one since sony wont!
    just kidding, this is cool.

  • omar3tman

    Showtime :D

  • Guest

Pls now sony give us lollipop….

  • kenobi

Why Walkman is replaced by Music in M4 Aqua and Z4 Tablet?

  • Kiwison

    That’s what I needed

  • Rodney

Might be that they want to replace Walkman branding with Playstation Music.

  • Snorky112

it’s only in the commercial videos, also it’s just called music but it’s still walkman application

  • stolnheartdealr

Lame, unless you’re promoting a product (then one should ask why you’d spend so much time creating an ‘ad’ for a limited market) this has little value. Every average user will just download a launcher (like Nova Launcher which lets me hide all the Sony apps I don’t use or want) since the customization seems to be limited to that.

  • Snorky112

meh I’m trying it right now and seems like you can just customize everything

  • Zero-21XX
  • DBS

After seeing how horrible Lollipop is on the M4 and deciding I’m not updating my Z3Compact to it, I’m very glad Sony released this. Now excuse me, I’ll be putting some darker colours on KitKat.

  • BarKohba

quite possible. And keep the Walkman brand for stand alone portable music players.

  • stolnheartdealr

Even the Notifications pulldown and Settings menus? That would be awesome and definitely wasn’t featured in that tiny promo.

  • Runkle

    French! @01NET.com
At # MWC15 SonyXperiaFR announces the update of its smartphones to Z Lollipop in March

  • Snorky112

hmmm… let me see, I don’t have SSD so it’s really slow, but there are 10 PSD files, where you can change all icons, styles etc. but IDK for the notifications pulldown as I don’t think it’s part of the launcher :/ but you can change tickboxes, switches, shadows, etc. there’s a lot of thing to do but you’ll need to be good at photoshop, the theme tool is just there to preview your work and make some minor tweaks

  • Snorky112

yea but if you look at hands on videos from MWC you’ll see its walkman

  • Abdullah Robben

My first theme will be released the next month
    wait for it

  • Dan Makwana

If you release your theme before Sony release Lollipop you win a gold star.

  • tysonbox

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST RELEASE THE STUPID UPDATE ALREADY

  • Jesús López Sotelo

Just like the old (before android) Sony Ericsson days

  • Lukáš Pávl

Good. Because we will need this to fix their messed up Lollipop UI.

  • kenobi

You’re right! I forget about PS Music.

  • Lukáš Pávl

It could be true because when you look on rendered pictures there is updated LifeLog app With new material icon. So this could be future of the Walkmann. But i Hope that they will leave All functions built in.

  • mrjraider

Can this be used in 4.3? Since my SP is stuck there?

  • Shaik Ilyas

They just don’t want to talk about lollipop update.

  • mer1

you remind me my sony ericson k310i XD

  • Deadstar
  • Snorky112

as long as you can install themes…

  • Jesús López Sotelo

And I remember my very first sony was a W200a haha

  • Constantine

    Very good job, Sony.

  • Nguy?n T?n L?c

And…It use Music instead of walkman…Just why???? Movies is now Video too. UI doesn’t look too bad. Still a bit disappoint as there is so little Sony elements yet they delay it so much. Anyway, at least there’re a few new icons like settings, camera… yet they kept the dialer, contact and message camera which is lame in my opinion.

with that video, hope they release it for Z3 and Z2 real soon so my Z1 will soon have a taste of it.

  • thew01

heem … seems like sony put the walkman app name to music player (generaly) ,i think sony now considering market between music audio and smarphone

  • P9

    they have materialed it anyway.
it could be coz of language which call “video”
about music may be just a demo

    not sure at all.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Oh wow awesome Finding bro. Yayy. Guess within this week or next week at least.

  • Nadeer Suddoo

And what if they are putting raw image and other function on flagships one..thats why z4 and z series are not being updated

  • rajat

And that’s why I am a huge fan of Sony. They just keep the world open for you. Something that we can’t expect from other brands. All Hail for SONY.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I only hope bro, I only hope

  • Tsakane

RUINED by that retarded small apps thing UGH OMG!!

  • mrjraider

I get an error while installing. Indicating that Sony is shit and that this is for KitKat and above.

  • DD64

Well I think it can be disabled like in KitKat using the adb shell

  • Prateek Bhanushali

    Now Create this via photoshop……

  • Rikimaru Azuma

    Magnificent !

  • mUSICA

already have this theme creator.. so complicated to use

  • Chitti- The Robot

Sony Ericsson used to have a Theme Creator back in 2006. Used to create themes for my K750i. Remembering old memories. Thank You Sony!

  • Soultje

What do we/i have to fill in with “package name”? I saw on sony site it has to be [domain].[company name].[application name] but whatever i fill in, it seems to be wrong.

Is it even possible for me to make one? :o

  • Keion London

Is it possible to change the light blue color in the settings app?

  • Snorky112

for example if your website is http://www.mywebsite.com

    name your package “com.mywebsite.myapp”

you should RTFM (read the fucking manual lol) on the website it is explained

  • Snorky112

not so much actually, you mainly change everything on photoshop then you tweak things on the theme creator

  • MJ

how to use it with gimp so i can import images…..

  • Rieve Sn

    finally been waiting for this!
    thanks sony

  • Snorky112

    try photoshop

  • Quark Gluon

Indeed it’s for limited market, that’s why they put it on Developer World channel. But you can see the bigger picture here, anyone can create theme for everyone. The SDK may be built for few people, but the product of it can reach almost all Xperia users, even someone who doesn’t seem to know anything except the way to find Hello Kitty themes.

  • sb945

    nice tools!

  • Haldi

Step A. Download and install Theme Creator
    Download Java
for free and install it on your computer. You must have Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) version 7 or higher installed on your computer to run
    Theme Creator.
    Well thanks Sony -.-

  • Memet

how can i fix ‘loading problem’ at console?

  • Memet

    sa
