Xperia Z4 frame leaks: Confirms small design changes and cap-less microUSB charging

by XB on 6th March 2015

in Rumours, Xperia Z4 and Z3+ series

Xperia Z4 chassis_2Pictures of supposed parts for the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 have leaked. The pictures come from the same source that presented alleged front panel pictures of the Xperia Z4 last November. This time we get a good look at the Xperia Z4 chassis and how it compares to the Xperia Z3.

The pictures confirm that the Sony Xperia Z4 will continue to use the OmniBalance design, with hardly any changes in the frame versus the Xperia Z3. What we can see is that the micro USB port is now exposed, confirming cap-less micro USB charging as seen with the recently announced Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia Z4 Tablet.

The micro USB port now sits at the bottom of the handset, rather than on the side like it has done for all previous Xperia Z series flagships. The Xperia Z4 microphone is also located on the bottom, adjacent to the USB port, rather than the side as it appeared on the Xperia Z3.

Other changes include the absence of magnetic charging pins, which is perhaps no surprise now that cap-less charging is supported. However, some may still bemoan its absence if the Xperia Z4 does not end up supporting wireless charging.

As a result of this, the Xperia Z4 will only have one port flap (most likely to house both the micro SD and nano SIM slots), keeping the sides of the handset very streamlined. The dimensions of both frames are said to be very similar, supporting the theory that the Xperia Z4 will most likely have a similar 5.2-inch display. However, thickness has been reduced by 1mm pointing to an even lighter flagship.

  • Kiwison

As a Z3 owner and lover, I must say that if that’s Z4 then hell yeah!

  • Fempter

Yeah, no cover to usb port!!! Love it, I’m waiting so much!

  • Interesting … they’re droping SD card as S6 ?

  • LancerEX

    Glossy black…? :(

  • DonRox

looking and the pictures here are my assumptions:

    – although the micro usb port is exposed, i believe the phone is waterproof as we saw with M4 aqua. also the placement of the port at the bottom of the handset is great as it doesn’t affect the beauty of the design

    – there is no flap on the right side of the device (i believe that’s the reason for assuming there is no micro sd slot by phonearena) but the flap on the left side of the z4 is bigger than that of the z3, which leads me to assume the the micro sd slot has moved to the left side (keep in mind that the micro usb port has moved from the left side to the bottom)

-The lack of dock connector pins suggests wireless charging too

Btw this leak shows my next phone. Cheers!

  • A.o.D

Not much of a change there. But i like the more darker and reflective blacks on the sides and ofcourse the microusb port without the flap

  • Now I’ll wait until sep …. I was thinking on the S6 but … this look promise.

  • Khaled

    Before anybody jumps into conclusions

    1) It’s waterproof even though the USB port is cap-less (hint – M4 and Z4 Tablet) the author at phonearena has been living under a rock for the past week for saying there its not waterproof because the USB port is exposed! I mean seriously!!
    2) the flap on the right is removed, however the flap on the left is bigger than the Z3! That might means that the micro SD and sim card are in the same location.
    3) lack of magnetic charging adapter might be a hint for wireless ccharging.

  • DonRox

    Exactly my points. Cheers!

  • Khaled

Wow me and you read each other’s minds lol

  • yeah can be NanoSIM + SDcard … and I love it, if they dont drop that option + less cap and wireless charge and no cap on the USB connector … I guess I’ll wait more until go for the S6

  • hansip

And suddenly all the magnetic cable people bought is useless.. But well I’d have flapless usb anyday. :) plus my dock is broken.. So yay?

  • Abhishek Kumar

Increased thinness means they might be using new IMX230 which is a bit smaller than traditional 20.7mp camera after all
It just shouldnt have a protruding camera or smaller battery

  • Khaled

Always leaked pics, pre-production or proto-types don’t represent the final color and paint finish. Let’s wait and see

  • ahmed khan

Slimmer than z3 hell yea that my phone to go

  • Nander

looking good! Now give me wireless charging and I’m going to buy it for sure.

  • DonRox

    Haha yeah!!

  • Geesha Gehan Anurad

according to these chassis i am pretty sure that XPERIA Z4 will be a more thinner device..

  • ArQu

No… There’s one flap on the side which is bigger than corresponding flap on Z3 which means Sony didn’the or won’t fuck up like shamesung and we’ll have sd card :)

  • Islis

Can’t make up the shape of the usb port….type C USB 3.0? Is that you!?
Also, looks like same screen size as Z3…possibly just FullHD? are there even any 5.2 inch QHD IPS LCD panel? or maybe they finally use OLED? (Like Moto Maxx?)
Longer flap like Z2…definitely can squeeze in a nanoSIM and microSD card…

  • A.o.D

they might be actually going glossy this time. Even this leaked picture had the same glossy frame

  • wared

Sony please just make thinner bezels, OLED display, xenon flash, lower weight, and am buying it.
But sadly from the images there is no ir blaster.

  • Quark Gluon

I think it’s just the same old MicroUSB port with black housing. Note that it’s just a hole in the picture, the actual port comes with the mainboard.

  • xperiaDROID

Hope it also will have thinner bezels and a glowing LED notification light like on the Oppo Find 7. More importantly, fast charging.

  • Igor Iceberg

Even if there isn’t any wireless charging, I think, since the microUSB port is at the bottom now, you can use any microUSB dock out there… I think it’s even better than using the magnetic charging dock with a protective case on (3rd party one, of course, since the official dock is useless when you have a case). ~_~
    Like that sleek one:
BUT, the catch is that the the Z4’s port is upside-down… but I bet disassembling that dock and flipping the port won’t be difficult.

  • Quark Gluon

In my opinion, design wise, from dark grey to shiny black is a major change.

  • Aiden Pearce

Now we are talking… Open usb port and integrate a wireless charging….and plz..more powerful speakers than z3….

  • haxona

I hope it continues on lcd and for crying out loud could manufacturers start using Type-C yet so we can get accustomed to it before the future take-over!

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z4: lo chassis si mostra nelle prime foto dettagliate - Tutto Android()

  • Islis

How about the PS Vita Charging Stand?

  • Igor Iceberg

Awesome, but there might be a problem. Z4 has some weight, and it will stand vertically (not horizontally like the PS Vita), which means the phone’s weight will be held the connector… it might bend or break one day. You need a dock with a backrest.

  • Guest

Hey SONY just release it and take my money :D

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Hey SONY, Please release it and take my money :P

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Look like I’m the only one person who thought this is a perfect design.

  • Igor Iceberg

“…suggests an even thinner device without a microSD slot”
That author probably has some visual impairment, because the large flap specifically says: “microSD”.

  • Snorky112

we still need Full HD screen, no QHD pls its too much, 1080p is perfect and will have better battery life

  • Snorky112

you Mean Samsungarena… not phonearena lol

  • Guest

Sorry confused the Z3 with the Z4, just ignore this.

  • Khaled

I never seen a site that biased! Favoring Samsung on their site, it’s obvious as hell! Even The Verge being iPhone pros they still write respectful articles about Sony

  • Khaled

I love cradles! Hopefully an official one gets released with it.

  • A.o.D

I like this design too and now i am almost certain that this might be the final design we are looking at

  • Khaled

This might be a problem, since the phone will be positioned vertically there will be so support for the back. Vita on the other hand sits vertically on the cradle

  • Khaled

    z2 metal frame
z3 plastic frame but stil match with sony standard
z4 plastic frame exactly like samsung’s plastic
    well done sony !!!

  • Gadget Lover

Phonearena intentionally put a misleading article title just to start another flameware. Credibility of that site going down with each passing day.
    Phonearena = clickbait arena.

  • spatch72

I’ve loved using the magnetic charging dock with the Z2, so hopefully Sony does employ QI wireless charging with the Z4. Unfortunately there was no mention of this at MWC for the Z4 Tablet, so we may be left with old school wired charging instead — a step back in my opinion. I know wireless charging adds to the thickness of a phone, but surely Sony can arrive at a better solution. Perhaps another wireless charging cover like the one designed for the Z3? It’s not ideal, but it is a nice cover.

  • A.o.D

Z3 has a metal frame. Z4 will get metal too

  • fishisnot

Im receiving the Album update now

  • Kaostheory

Hope it has wireless charging, I’ve killed all my open usb ports on past phones, almost exactly 1yr before they become worn and loose from use and dirt. Definitely buying a port cover.

  • Kaostheory

IR still relevant but all new tech is bt or wifi. IR is on it’s way out and will be omitted on other phones too.

  • Khaled

The only difference might be the size of the speaker cutouts, if the final design looks like this leaked render with that color as well, I am sold!!!

its look like metel but both z3 and z3c has plastic frame

  • Kaostheory

I’d rather have some new wifi tech for faster transfer and wireless charging. Eliminate the USB altogether.

  • Black <3

  • Joe

And in my experience it’s better. It’s more sturdy.

  • Omarion07

So I went to PhoneArena to read the article they published regarding the Z4 chassis and boy was I baffled by the level of stupidity and ignorance of both the writer and people commenting on the article!!

  • tmnd

No, Z3 do have metal frame … only the corners are nylon materials to protect it from corner drops.

    Byt Z3c has plastic frame.

  • Igor Iceberg

“z3 plastic frame”? What are you talking about? “z4 plastic frame”? You can’t assume which material that is by its texture. Metals can have many textures, just like plastic and glass can.

  • A.o.D

Only z3c has plastic frame. Whereas the Z3 has got ALUMINIUM frame and last i checked aluminium was a metal :p. Well you may check it out below:

  • jonyah

The absence of the magnetic port is going to be really bad if they don’t include wireless charging. I’ve grown accustomed to not needed the usb port at all and would rather not have to use it.

  • jonyah

I’d take a slight increase in thickness if it meant wireless charging. Just not one with verizon littered all over it.

  • jonyah

The vibrator could go to be stronger too.

  • mountain

First Xperia with USB at the bottom!

  • jonyah

IR isn’t on it’s way out when you’re talking about controlling your home entertainment system. We don’t want IR to copy data from phone to phone, but to control our tv’s and other devices. I love the feature on my galaxy 7.7 tablets.

  • xperia z4 with the remarable new feature BLACK

  • oh and fingerprint magnet :(

  • Marlish

    The phone of the year

  • i honestly miss the frame of the original z1 or z ultra :(

  • sam raj

Another logic, if it ain’t waterproof, wouldn’t they ditch all the flaps at first place. There is a flap which indicates it’s definitely waterproof

  • DrazenDodig

Z3 has metal frame, Z3c has plastic… it doesnt look like it, it is metal..

  • That Black is so awesome.

  • RealityCheck2015

The only downer for the Z4 Tablet was no wireless charging :( (well i think it hasn’t got it) Hopefully the Z4 Phone will have wireless charging.

  • Wireless charging on a 6 mm tab? Now that would be ground-breaking.

  • Aiden Pearce

I think they wil integrate the wireless since they will be ditching the magnetic… If its true frame…and i would like to check it definitely…. Come on sony…splash sammycrapsumg…

  • Aiden Pearce

    Lets hope so…

  • Aiden Pearce

As roumored they might give a QHD plus 1080 versions…maybe

  • Aiden Pearce

As roumored they might give a QHD plus 1080 versions…maybe for different markets…

  • Brian De Guzman

the only reason that I love using their docks and not the micro USB for charging is that I don’t have to keep opening (and eventually loosen) the flap of that Micro USB, now that they made the micro USB port waterproof, i dont see any purpose for the proprietary dock.

  • Afnan Muhammad

Remove SD Card is a bad idea unless the cheapest model is using at least 64GB or even better 128GB. Apps and games is not big problem but i need huge space to keep all my music and video (around 40GB).

  • Niels d. G.

“the Xperia Z4 will only have one port flap (most likely to house both the micro SD and nano SIM slots)”

  • That would be quite expensive then

  • Giant

I want the light-up XPERIA logo on the back, please!

  • Khaled

not necessarily, Xperia S had flaps and it wasn’t waterproof ;)

Z3 is has not got a plastic frame!

  • Jonathan Bratanata

I had to grab a snack when I read through them. It was very entertaining

  • Kiran Pasupuleti

Two plus years for the same design is getting kinda boring. Hope Z5 comes with a new design. Also, three years by then is good enough time for Sony have figured out another differentiating design since the release of the Xperia Z.

  • xperi

please either cover the USB port or make it pretty , M4 usb port is so ugly.

  • Rock Kickass

PS Remote Play, OIS and a few other goodies and I’ll be extremely happy. Looking forward to this now. I’m glad I waited now. Instead of going to the S6 Edge and waiting for a Z4 to be announced seems like I made a good decision.

  • dex

So I assume the same big ass bezels found in every Xperia phone?

Also, I find it incredible that Xperia phone cameras aren’t taking the best photos despite using the in-house Sony camera sensor. I think something is wrong with the optics/lenses, or the software post-processing is poor.

You better not drop the ball this time, Sony. You already have the know-how from producing digital and DSLR cameras, there is no excuse.

  • dex

Kid, if you want to ‘pimp out’ your phone, go do the custom DIY mods yourself. Knock yourself out.

This is a niche aesthetic feature that adds to the production cost.

  • dex

I prefer QuickPic. Sony’s Album is too bloated.

  • Afnan Muhammad

If they can use bigger ram and better processor without increasing price, why not bigger storage ?

  • Vuyo Ncube

The large MicroSD card slot is on the Z3. So the Sim card and microSD card are mostly likely in the same location.

  • dex

Flaps could be for dust proofing the device, did anyone think of this possibility?

  • Afnan Muhammad

I hope that is true. I didnt see the word sd card in that frame like Z3 thats why im worried.

  • dex

The news Samsung Galaxy S6 phones are really premium quality. No more cheap plastic. Samsung upped their game, we should give credit where it is due.

    Competition drives progress.

  • Steve

Do people generally use their phones for music? I’m genuinely curious!

  • gamer324

Would be awesome if Sony uses that RGBW OLED 1080p JDi made a few years back, I don’t want a stupid jump to 2k I want the best possible 1080p screen Sony can make! make it happen Sony!
That and wireless charging would be great.

  • AnP

Just came back to this article after reading Phonearena’s version. Damn are they dumb and ridiculously biased. Anyway, I like what I see so far. I am hoping they haven’t ditched microSD support but even if they have, the phone better have bigger internal storage, in the range 32/64GB. Also looks like we won’t be seeing any OIS camera feature just yet but I could be wrong. Glad to see screen size same as Z3 and nothing too big. Can’t wait to see the real deal, saving up for the Z4 :)

  • Pootis Man

Same here. I’m saving all my money’s for this phone.

  • Kaostheory

Read my comment again. All new home entertainment will be bt or wifi. There’s a lot of old home entertainment still and that makes it relevant. Not gone yet but yes it’s on the way out.

  • A.o.D

Hope they really use it this time. Its been about two years now since we heard the news, it should be about ready by now for the z4. I remember it was a 5.2 inch OLED panel that matches the z4 display size(as rumored).

  • Kristo

    Toggle function?

  • Kristo

Also it wouldn’t use much power.

  • Kristo

Most people (me included) use Spotify etc. for music, and I’m pretty sure most people use it for music in general.

  • Snorky112

yea it’s 2015 guys, better move to the cloud

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

What about a charging dock, designed like their current charging pins one, but the back part of the charger, the part that says Sony, extends higher? That way you get that small ditch/holder that’s on charger to hold in place and a Qi charging back that also supports/ props the device up. Think Sony magnetic charger meets Moto 360 charger

  • GigaSPX

Not just phonearena, but several other tech sites are jumping the gun to say it’s not waterproof anymore.

Well hell they fail to call themselves tech journalists for missing Sony’s MWC announcements of their flapless yet waterproof M4 Aqua and Z4 Tablet.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

All they’re trying to do is compare Samsung faults to Sony’s “future faults”, yet there is no evidence of any kind to support it

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

The other authors on TheVerge favor Apple and Samsung way too much. I think Vlad is the best reviewer they got. He is critical, but at the same time he’s a self proclaimed Sony fan. He loved everything about th Z3, except the camera. His reviews are consistent and really don’t feel one-sided at all. It baffles me how all the other lame Verge losers can even talk about Sony when they know nothing. Have you seen when TheVerge went to the event that the Z1 Compact was announced he was like the only one that knew what was happening. And again when the Z3 family was announced, Nilay and Dieter had little to no idea what was going on. “I think so”, is not something you want to to hear when asked a simple question on a device just released.

I still remember when he interviewed founder of nest when google bought nest. That so called “interview” is a pure personal attack on that guy. Basically that fatass was angry that nest founders agreed to sell it to google and not to apple.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

It’s tough to find a site, that reviews and reports that doesn’t seem bias. I WOULD like to point out that AndroidAuthority did report on the Z4 and didn’t make crazy, wild accusations like PhoneArena. They did in fact point the possibility out but mentioned that it is too early to really speculate… Something PhoneArena conviently forgot to do *sarcasm *

  • Elad Israel

Am i the only one afraid of the microphone being place near the usb port?
Seriously i got a z2 and the mic is also placed on the bottom of the phone, and i got to say, my call experience is shit!! I need to hold the phone in a very specific way to be heared clearly.
I have beeb read about that problem in xda, and all z2 owners have this call experience problem.
All because of a very bad decision to locate the phone primary microphone on the bottom.
And belive me, its a huge problem when you trying to make a conversation while the other side cant hear you well.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

It would make sense. Help give the Z4’s frame a more unified look. Especially without the magnetic pins, the frame on all ends should look very nice and clean.

My concern is that it’s to thin…? The support beam(?), going across the left side of the device to the right side is much thinner than the Z3. I’m hoping that it doesn’t hurt the device structurally, making it easier to bend.

  • omer khaliq

This looks good, but don’t really needs to step up their U.S. presence. The U.S. is a big market for high end phones because of carrier subsidies and Sony should be on all major carriers is they want to be successful.

  • crackinthewall

MicroUSB ports are known to be fragile and I’m not sure how long the coating for the microUSB ports would last. I’ve already seen a couple of phones with a broken microUSB port. Hopefully they went with the reversible 3.1 connection which should be more durable in addition to being faster.

  • crackinthewall

Blame the software. Even HTC produced better photos than Sony when Apple, Samsung, HTC and Sony were using the same Sony sensor back in 2012.

  • I really don’t like having the usb port in the bottom makes it hard using the phone in bed with charger connected.

  • Clarence Alvarado

Yeah, it’s better to have the USB port for multiple USB functionality instead of charging only for magnetic charging pins. You can now already dock your phone while transferring files to USB, or even MHL to your TV.

  • Clarence Alvarado

I’m worries that having OIS makes the camera module getting thicker. I know they have trimmed down a bit in making IMX230 compared to its predecessor (IMX220), but having 6p lens + Optical Steadyshot will bring the creepy camera bulge on the Z series.

If it equates better IQ, then i’ll go for the bulge if it just works right.

  • Oh goodbye sony, it was nice knowing you until you fucked yourself up.

  • daniel kudo

Samsung has perfected OLED in mobile display since galaxy note 4 with Good colour calibration, and Sony has did it a long time ago with their Monitor Trimaster EL OLED. So theirs no excuses for Sony to use OLED in their Xperia

  • Shaktimaan

Phonearena should be taught a lesson lol

  • Not to forget
MKBHD doesn’t review Sony devices. God knows why?
Android Authority reports Sony’s devices but only after they are completed with all of Samsung and HTC stuff.

  • InspectorGadget80

If this doesn’t have a SD CARD SLOT I’m done with SONY. STOP FOLLOWING EVERY COMPANY. WE NEED SD CARD for PICS or files to save in case the phone crash. I call it BULL SHYT

  • Eric

First and only phone to have a processor based on 14nm FinFET technology. First and only phone to use UFS storage memory. One of the first phones to use DDR4 memory. First and only phone to have built in Qi and PMA wireless charging. First and only phone to offer Mag payment technology. Yeah, no innovation here. I’m not a big Samsung fan either, but I agree with dex, give credit where credit is due.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

I wasn’t knocking Samsung, I really wanted to know what he meant. But he mentioned Samsung’s design and just stated, “Give credit where credit is due”, with no explanation. What was anyone supposed to think? I know Samsung has pioneered and lead a way in certain ways, but design is not one of them. Flexible screen maybe, but not design.

  • F.U.C.K.

Yeah 2K Display is ridiculous and useless, We want OLED Display from Sony more.

  • F.U.C.K.

OLED TECHNOLOGY is best and it’s a future no doubt

  • jag

Why do you guys even bother to go in their site? Those guys are so against with Sony.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

They do get a lot of the rumors about future devices. And some articles are nice, but they’ve fallen from what they use to be

  • Islis

You are most likely right, just noticed that the bottom of the port is a little sharper on the edge…and seeing how M4 Aqua and Z4 Tablet are still using standard MicroUSB.

  • Khaled

Yeah Vlad is the only one over there with a brain and credibility

  • Islis

I don’t mind either IPS or OLED as long as it has good viewing angle, good colour reproduction…although I would have liked OLED for it’s black levels…

Maybe Sony is just waiting for the IMX230 (Shipment in april) and this new LCD panel by JDI (just started manufacturing…) to be ready…

  • Islis

I agree, JDI has been flaunting their JOLED display with WRGB pixel arrangement (They claim it is better than the diamond pixel arrangement) for a while now but yet never use it in any of their devices…

  • arcu de triumf

Quick question: why would I buy Z4 if there’s nothing different than Z3? Some minor changes in mic position or connectivity? The look is the same, the dimensions the same…What’s new? Maybe the price :D Bring some video improvements photo quality battery lenght CPU or RAM or other specs above the competition. That waterproof and dust protection was a good move for ex. Make also some smaller mobiles under 5″. Every manufacturer makes 5″ or above. It’s huge. Like a plate on the ear. Hard to use it with one hand fast. We’re not monkeys. So I see Sony still goes to the old path to nowhere.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Phonearena are just a bunch of idiots in my humble opinion! :)

  • gamer324

Sony probably will figure out a way to avoid any ‘bendgate’ issues. Remember that the metal frame is just one part, the front/back glass also add rigidity and the support beam if engineering-wise is correct (which judging by Sony’s past, it probably is), doesn’t matter how thin it is.

  • gamer324

Yeah, Vlad is definitely critical in his reviews, but that’s actually just what all reviewers are supposed to be. But with his articles you can definitely tell that he is a fan though, as is Nilay Patel but his articles are wayy too subjective, and his reviews are just love letters to his favourite devices.
However overall I think the verge tends to be a bit sensationalistic towards Sony (and to an extent, Google). So all in all, apart from (if you haven’t checked them then do, balanced, objective and not idiots) I pretty much only TRUST xperiablog when it comes to Sony.

  • GraphiteEdge

I hate that they are removing the magnetic charging dock support! I love the dock, it’s so handy for being both a cradle and a charger, I have one stuck to the dash in my car for my Z2 and it holds my phone while charging it, perfect for navigation and triggered actions like connecting to Bluetooth. This is very disappointing. I saw the dock as an asset above and beyond removing the annoyance of having to open the flap for charging. Though, maybe they will make a dock that connects to the micro usb port for both data and charging while holding the phone up in portrait orientation, and if this happens I will be very happy :) (and if they don’t make one, I can just 3d print one… )

Great now I can’t use my magnetic charger form my Z1 for the Z4…

  • webusermy

Hmm.. really love the magnetic charger.. especially for my car’s dock.. I can slide my phone into the dock and the magnetic cable would just clip/snap into position and charge.. all do-able with only one hand.. my experience with USB is you still need the other hand to apply pressure to push that thing in..

Also.. with the USB at the bottom.. I wonder if this will affect having of a stereo speakers at all… with less space at that spot and what not…

I love the black colour on that Xperia Z4 chassis, that’s what I call a true black. Not some dark grey-ish black…..

  • Exactly. Almost everyone would prefer that Sony logo flashing all the time but they would actually wight these 2 and pick the battery. Furthermore, we will pay more for that feature and at the end of the day we would not use it anyway.

  • You’re not trolling, are you? Do you actually want me to explain that to you?

  • vctrdnl

Sony Xperia devices are not nearly as popular as iPhone, Samsung, HTC etc. in the US, that’s why.

  • User2080

i still prefer a cap for the usb port, at least a replaceable one. how do you dry it up when you need to attach it to your computer after dipping it in the pool?

  • Ajmal Roshan

Oh my god. Aluminium is now plastic?

  • jakobd.

Please Sony, Sony xperia Z4 makes with an aluminum unibody, no ugly gap dimensions, without annoying fingerprints and no ugly out stationary frame corners are not flush with the body frame. With aluminum unibody, speaker and message LED as in Z2. A super fast autofocus with Curved sensor and Optical SteadyShot and zoom. 64 GB Internal Memory SD 810, 4 GB RAM, 2K 100% Natural color display, an additional microphone at the back so the notes Loud and Clean can be recorded. Very important aluminum unibody please please Sony. You’ll save yourself more money, get less complaints because of cracked backs, because large columns and it just looks good.

    Speaker Or something else?

I really hope Z4 will have a refreshing design to justify my upgrade from Z2… This leak suggest otherwise unfortunately…

I really liked the LED notification strip on my Xperia S. If they could somehow intergrate the LED strip in a waterproof device in the Z-Series would be cool! Does it affect software updates though? Hence Xperia S/SP. I’m using Z1 at the moment.

This would technically be a 5th generation Xperia Z. Xperia Z being the 1st.

  • El_Carnicero

Awww maaaan…. I loved the magnetic chargers…. Just pop it in the dock and let it work…

the most important thing about microSD is definitely being able to keep files if something goes wrong with your phone. had a phone randomly crash and lost everything a few months back

  • Allan Hernandez

Just think about it. If the M4 Aqua they just announced has micro sd slot, why would their flagship not have one? Sony tends to put their best things in their premium phones. Plus, the flap on the left is bigger.

  • DooMLoRD

    looks good…

    bring it on Sony!

  • Eve Campbell

I mean, “phonearena” says it all tbh. Sounds like a site where people with no clue work.

  • Well ya know, I see the picture really fast, and why not to drop in the high division the SD card? sell me a phone with 64GB or 128 and why do I need more SD card? my phone is not a really camera that need 200GB +

  • Allan Hernandez

If Sony removed the SD card then yes, they would definitely give higher storage options. However, Sony Mobile France just confirmed today that the Lollipop update for Xperia Z devices will let you add apps to the micro sd card so if the Z4 is shipping with Lollipop, most likely the Z4 will include sd card support to take advantage of that feature.

  • Well that problem about the SD card I solved like 2y ago (when the Xperia Z was released) I use link2SD. But well actually I’ll like if they drop the SD card slot, don’t needed in this days, just give a phone with enough Storage and that’s what you really need. And you can safe some money on the design + production (AKA safe Sony Mobile to be sold)

Why in all hell did they dump the magnetic charger? I don’t care what ports don’t have caps, the magnetic charger was Sony’s killer feature that made it the best phone available. MicroUSB and USB-C are f**king terrible.
