Loving the podcast ability on the last update, and now sleep timer? Sony builds this music app to be a one stop music entertainment centre… And im loving it

    Thank you!

  • pytajnik

why do they even put a music app on their phones when Sony’s phones have the lowest audio power output out of all smartphones available on the market and it makes all their “flagships” completely useless if you want to listen to the music, I really don’t get it.

  • Matt

Because we prever clean output instead of just loud

  • Igor Eisberg

And with a very easy mod (when you have root) you can also increase the audio output, espeically essential for headphones.

  • Don’t say we I can’t hear shit with my Z3 outside and my iPad output is clearer than my Z3 so ?

  • Igor Eisberg

Huh? We talk about the audio output in the Music app. Do you listen to music on your phone’s speakers? Really?

  • Igor Eisberg

Huh? We talk about the audio output in the Music app. Do you listen to music on your phone’s speakers? Really?

  • pytajnik

oh really, we do? or we are just Sony faboys? Look at HTC m7, m8, m9 are very loud and extremely clean.

  • Iam talking about headphone output :|

  • Well why not have it out of the box why have to keep installing mods everytime I update device to make it better

  • Igor Eisberg

You can just change 2 values in a XML file in system partition to dramatically increase headphones volume. It’s not a hardware limitation, nor a driver or audio codec limitation, it’s just a configuration Sony chose to keep your ears on the safe side.
Moreover, you can even add third party audio effects to improve sound quality and volume even further. I use Dolby Atmos and Arkamys on my Xperia Z1. Volume and audio quality is amazing and very customization.

  • Igor Eisberg

Because Sony thinks keeping your phones on the safe side is more important than giving you a higher volume. It’s their business choice. That being said, when you’re using Android, you have control over your phone, you just need to learn how to. If you can’t learn, well… ape no fool I guess.

  • Timel

    I want pitch volume control

  • Jerry Berglund

Ok, I think I have to warn. I installed this one, and my phone suddenly behavde really funny. The onoff button stoped working. Suddenly I couldt wake it up, or close it down. Suddenly it just got black, and didnt wanna start. And that happend after I downloaded and installed this beta app. So I have to re-install the phone. :-(

And by the way the beta right before this one, allready had Sleep timer and many of this features.

  • dragonsneeze

they refuse to put a dedicated audio chip in their phones, that’s pretty much why the flagships don’t have enough power. But I think this app is doing wonders with what it got. It’s a shame though, a company named after sound doesn’t care much about headphone audio. From the way things are going it looks like they want to focus on wireless transmission. For me One Sony is never complete without great headphone output.

  • dragonsneeze

    And you mean?

  • dragonsneeze

I think power and loudness is not always the same thing. I can get more than enough loudness by maxing out EQ bands or using AIMP player’s preamp but it’s only loud at higher frequencies. Bass gets lost in other instruments and voice I think that’s because bass needs more power which these phones are not capable without a good audio chip.

  • Vasilis K.

    Mine is working just fine…

  • Jerry Berglund

Mine is dead. Completely dead. :-(

  • amit kumar anand

Is not good update . walkman is a trademark of sony but music app trademark of google only

  • hmmm

were is the RAW support and close all button sony?????

  • Matt

True that, I have used HTC one series before turning to xperia and I do feel the volume is a bit weaker. And the bass ist as punchy. Even on clear audio +(using Shure se215 btw)

But still not on a level that people makes it out to be, it’s fine :p

  • pytajnik

Oh really, so they are worried about me? I’d rather be treated like I’m not retarded. I know my limits. BTW. does this mod actually work or it just makes the highs louder without touching the bass?

  • Matt

Sure sure, people In hell also want an ice tea…

Gw bu HTC then,I was considering HTC one series before because I like to use my phone as a music player. But still I’m good with xperia. . . Itu no use if you use chappy earphone that comes with the phone though.

What earphone or headphone do you use?

  • Igor Eisberg

They are not worried about you. They are worried about not being sued by idiots that turn on the volume too high, damage their ears and then go blame everybody and sue every company.
The 2 values add mostly volume. The audio effects remarkably add bass and treble, adding depth to the sound.

  • Matt

Yeah I do have the same problem,I can’t hear this shitty xperia z3 underwater either. Shame Sony shame!

See what I did there? cannot hear shit outside isn’t a valid complain if you ask me, because there is a ton of factor there, are you a construction worker? Are you deaf? Or are you using crappy earphone? -_-

Kinda tired, people want brand new beautiful design, but the use a blindingly ugly case. People what superbly celana and extremely loud audio output but don’t want to buy a good quality earphone..

  • pytajnik

I use Grado SR60i at home, like in bed and IE80 when outside. Sony is not a choice if you want to listen to the music.

  • pytajnik

that’s funny, because nobody is suing apple but their devices has 3 times Xperia’s audio output, more 1 watt meanwhile Z3’s audio output is only 300 milliwatts… which is only 0,3 wat!

  • dragonsneeze

Yes, when I switch to my laptop at 30% volume I feel like I’ve stepped into a concert hall. Audio enhancements are good and it makes me hear some subtle things but, clearly not meant to be too loud or powerful. Most people don’t care or fall for commercials I guess. Clear Audio+ is definitely not for me, makes the sound more tinny. I max out the 400 Hz and gradually lower until 6kHz max out the last one, and clear bass. Clear stereo is on also. Still some songs makes it clear that something is lacking.

  • Igor Eisberg

I wouldn’t begin comparing Sony Mobile to Apple. Absolutely different business ethics. I don’t really care about the wattage. I have absolutely amazing sound. I had good sound on my old iPhone 4, but I like it better on my Xperia where I can customize it.

  • pytajnik

yeah well, you can customize your sound, but I can’t even hear sound on my device.

  • Igor Eisberg

Sad to hear that. Z3 is supposed to be better than my Z1…

  • Aiden Pearce

Well imo they should move towards the blur ui then this on..its time they should redesign their UI but dev team doesn’t bother and keeps telling us beta testers to read the FAQ and they cannot make major changes as they have to work too hard..i just don’t get it ….so i quit giving suggestions in beta testers group..i mean whats the use if they don’t listen to us and release want they want and not us?

  • Matt

IE80 is quite good actually, but im not a sennheiser fan :( , couple of their earphones makes music sounds a bit muddy.

maybe not, but i dont want to buy an extra device just to hear music. and we are in xperia blog , talking about xperias . . soo yeah.
IDK, im quite picky about my music player, and dont see anything terribly wrong with xperias. and why are you here anyway? just to flame xperias ?

besides i pick a device , not a brand. xperia z3 fits my life quite much better than M8, i HATE power button on m8 , dont really care about the camera though.

  • Matt

make it 80% and you might not hear anything at all mate hahaha :) JK

yea but clear audio plus reduce the amount of stereo crosstalk that happen when you plug in the audio jack. i alwayy use bohemian rapsody to test an audio device , xperia z3 fairs quite well, then again , different strokes for a different folks i guess.

  • Jecht_Sin

Everything is possible but I doubt a non rooted app can cause such a mess.

  • dragonsneeze

Doesn’t clear stereo do that also?

  • Jerry Berglund

I do not know, honestly. I havent done anything that should break the phone like this. NOt even rooted it or anything.

  • Masamune2k

Am I dreaming or do I see a Podcast menu appearing here??

  • ShinOrochiX

It’s an Xperia, stuff like that just happens. I’ve previously experienced things like that, random reboots, screen dying etc…

  • HAWX

Does Z3 have dedicated audio chip:? It can reproduce 24-96 with using 2X chip but I’m not sure completely about those chips.

  • HAWX

Phone already shows a warning message about hearing damage. Also don’t forget older people whose haring may already not sufficient for volume levels Xperias provide.

  • I actually have had this one time when I was walking with my friend he had a 4s and I was listening to music with Z3 and I didn’t hear sound because of background noise so I switched to his phone and I was shocked by how low headphone output is

  • dragonsneeze

It uses what Qualcomm provides, also according to http://www.head-fi.org/t/737108/sony-xperia-z3-audio-quality it also has some kind of converter for Hi-Res. Like the comments say it’s still weak and works better with sensitive less resistance earphones.

  • Gutt Grinder

To be honest you have a point though but for the volume issue it can be resolve if you purchase a good pair of ear phones. I had the Z2 and I’ve used a lot of smartphones before but nothing can beat the clarity of the sound which xperia phones produce.

BTW: I got a good pair of ear phones ATH-CKS55BK for my Z2..

  • gtop

Agreed, the current UI is hideous, just look at all those clashing colors and incoherent separation in the screenshots: purple, grey, red, white, green, black …. just urgh. Nothing hangs together at all.

  • Alnino Utomo

so many things dissapointing me on Sony’s Music app. The equalizer is just 5bands and it can’t play lossless files such as FLAC, ALAC or AIFF. I own the Audio Technica M40X and i have to turn up the volume more than 60/75% to make it loud and clear enough in other words i have to use my headphone amp. consider it, Sony

  • Matt

Yep but I dont like it at all,it doesn’t match my music and my music gear

  • Matt

Put 4 s underwater and you’ll be shocked that the earpiece will not output at all.

You can’t have it all mate, and sadly we didn’t stole the show either (sing reference)

  • Matt

Is there, on the new update, and I’m a happy camper

  • Khillo81

I don’t know about you, but I use my Sony Xperia Z1 with a pair of Sennheiser earphones and the Music Quality and volume are great. A colleague of mine who’s a big audiophile has a Z1C and is impressed by the Sound Quality (and he’s not an easy guy to impress :)).

  • Jerry Berglund

Ok, but now I think its actually the Solar storm that happens yesterday 18:23 UTC time. Because when I saw the time I saw that it happens in the same time my phone was behaving strangly.

  • Shubham Mutreja

    it plays FLAC

  • Alnino Utomo

are you sure, mate? i use jetAudio Plus to plays FLAC both 16&24bits. i’m not use Z3 by the way, maybe you can plays FLAC files in Z3 because it has DAC. but i can’t find any in Xperia E1. can you help me, mate?

  • dragonsneeze

I know what crosstalk is :) according to a sony site clear stereo reduces crosstalk. https://www.sony-asia.com/product/resources/en_AP/images/Articles/Walkman/JudgeForYourself/images/Stereo_img02.jpg

  • Killian Khoo

Play format is all depend on the device support format. In the white paper for the device.
if the device is listed in white paper not support the FLAC then the music app cant play it.

  • pytajnik

yeah I’m here to flame xperias, because I feel like Sony ripped me off.

  • Fadi Obaya

Why not unified desing? Bring What’s New UI to all Sony media apps.. :(

  • Matt

haha, thanks for the info mate, again i am a bit clueless on this stuff.

  • Matt

hmm, you know you can sell your phone right?
flaming on xperia forum will not magically upgrade your phone in anyway you know ? haha, it will just give a bad taste here.

sale your phone , and buy an HTC , problem sloved.
or it will give a hell of alot new problem with the 810 and medicore camera . .

  • Shubham Mutreja

    THATS NOT TRUE
I am currently having Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro with CM12 and Walkman 3.5 beta Installed by Recovery
IT ACTUALLY PLAYS FLAC, I HAVE TESTED RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS FLACs
But for me it is useless and i am waiting for z3 with super cool headphones!!!

  • Emir Zarith

thumbs up for ur brilliant suggestion….it works mate…

  • Alnino Utomo

I’ll try it, though. but i don’t think that Z3 as good as sony’s claimed on its sound quality. my brother own Z3 + Sony MDR-1ABT and i compared with my Fiio X-5 DAP ($291) and Audio Technica M50 ($170) and the Sony set just knocked out in the first round. don’t waste your money on something useless, mate :D

  • Shubham Mutreja

    No it is not true

Some people on xda claimed that there z3s dont have same quality

z3 currently has two TXP audio chips!!!
read reviews here everyone is praising z3 audio!
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/sony-win-xperia-z3-audio-quality-t2900303

Also u can install poweramp as suggested by http://www.head-fi.org/t/737108/sony-xperia-z3-audio-quality

OR just install sound mods from xda after rooting and z3 is easy to root BTW

  • Alnino Utomo

What do you mean by said “it’s not true”? Dont act like stupid fanboy, mate
I owned them, tested and compared with all of my audio sets (with some Astell & Kern DAP with Grado headphones, if you know them, sorry) but my favorite sets is the Fiio X5 & ATH M50 (cheaper than z3) and my set just kick the sony out. Try some more serious audio sets, mate. You’ll know whats good audio is. I’m a bit audiophile for sure

  • Hahaha my sister’s 4s slipped in the toilet and was 100% functional except for wifi which is a big deal but it lasted her 3 years so yeah it was on hell of a device
