Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0Following on from yesterday’s news that Sony had released its UCH10 Quick Charger, there was some confusion over which Sony Xperia models were Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 certified. We thought it best to quickly clarify the models that support Quick Charge 2.0 (so far), which you can see in the list below.

This mainly extends to the Xperia Z2/Z3/Z4 series of devices, although only the Japanese versions of the Xperia Z2/Z3 are Quick Charge 2.0 certified. Sony says that using a Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger on the relevant model allows for 5.5 hours of runtime on just a 10 minute charge.

Sony Xperia devices that support Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0

Xperia Z5
Xperia Z5 Compact
Xperia Z5 Premium

Xperia Z3+/Z4 (only single SIM variant)
Xperia Z4 Tablet

Xperia Z3 (only Japanese variants SO-01G, SOL26 and 401SO)
Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Xperia Z2 (only Japanese variant SO-03F)
Xperia Z2 Tablet

Sony Magnetic Charging Dock DK48 (for Xperia Z3 [Japan] and Xperia Z3 Compact)

“Xperia Z2 (only Japanese variant SO-03F)” – thank you, Sony!!!

  • desperado joe

So the z3 compact is supported worldwide? :)

  • Nathan

Does the Magnector X-202 support Quick Charge 2.0?

  • joseph carmine nero

They should enable it by an update but i doubt they would

  • Erwin Schrodinger

    d5833 supported, tested

  • Emir Zarith

thanks god z3c supported this feature…..
    quite shame for z3 & z2 owner…….XD

  • kido

    Thank you

  • GigaSPX

So basically any other variants of the Z2 and Z3 aren’t quick charge compatible? I have the forgettable Z3v in the States, but it’s listed with quick charge capabilities in the white book. :|

  • I took a quick look at Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 2 site and it appears that the only thing that’s different to a normal Sony AC/DC wall plug converter is that QC2 outputs 2A and the normal AC/DC converter outputs 1A.

Am I correct in this? What firmware or hardware changes are actually needed to be able to handle double the amperes? Serious question, I don’t know.

  • Erwin Schrodinger

Qualcomm said that Z3 supports QC 2.0, who is right?

  • Diego Salgado

I have a Sony Xperia Z3 (D6603), bought a certified QuickCharge 2.0 charger and it works! It charges my phone in less time than the charger that was bundled with the phone.

  • Ask the Magnector X-202 manufacturer.

  • Srijan Chawla

i could just hope a software update could enable this on the Z2, but i really doubt it, but if there is a slightest chance, then i urge users to ask Sony for this feature in their next updates.
Please give this to us, i could care less about RAW or any another feature, but we need this.

I did. This is their response:

” … Our adaptor is compatible with Sony Xperia. ( free voltage) It is just a medium to transfer power supply. It should work fine with the adaptor. But for your safe usage, you have to check the specification of the Quick charge 2.0.Thanks.”

Because of that you don’t buy Sony? You should look at S5 after lollipop update.
*S5 and Z2 announce around the same time and is more expensive then Z2.*

  • Abhinav Tella

No not through magnetic charging only works through USB.

  • Nathan

    But the DK48 supports it.

  • Skipper

QC 2.0 uses 9V output QC 1 uses 5V output

  • lovebmw

Honestly at this point, anything that is not Sony is something I will believe, I think lately Sony had been such dumb horrible mistakes that I’ll just take the word of other companies on Sony device.

Screw them, I just bought a dual sim z3+, I will use that charger, and they can fix it with it breaks…. We all know or they said z3plus has quick charge, not my problem if it breaks.

What they should have said, Z3+ has quick charge but if you have z3+ you don’t have quick charge and call it a day.

  • Inspired Jay

I tested DK48 with Z3c and found it work!! QC 2.0 Charger show 9v on USB meter. Amazing Sony put something inside DK48 ?

but Magnector X1 X2 , Deff magnetic adaptor not work.

Tomorrow I will show my testing on Z3 with DK48 and QC 2.0

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

So every model for their tab and z3c can use it but not the z3 and z2 great move right good thing I brought a z2 tab before the phone ultimate fail lol

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

I think they said the same for z2 but they have said what model numbers

  • iosvsios

You can still charge your phone. You’re just not getting one extra goodie that some other people get. Are you also the kind of kid or neighbour who has to have a better laptop/truck/boat/lawnmower/etc than the others? Relax……

  • Zero McLannary

Probably the power controller chip embedded on the magnetic charging dock. They usually include one of those to prevent overvoltage damage to other components.

  • Battal Aljadei

Sony’s becoming fucking cheap everyday !

  • Alvin

Umm. Not really cheap. Their car charger costs €40

    Xperia Z2 XDA News
AndroPlus just released an update to Androplus Kernel, bumping it to v58

It supposedly enables Quick Charge 2.0 for non japanese variants, but he does not own a QC 2.0 charger, if someone does please flash his kernel & report if QC 2.0 works or not

I just review on my fb page. you will see Z3 can accept QC 2.0 9V charge

Z3 Thai version + USB Charge + QC 2.0 Charger

    sorry about thai lang version.

  • Tommy He

Based on the materials from Qualcomm, Quick Charge is a SoC provided feature(or the embedded power management chip). Anything with SD801 and above should be compatible.

I will order one for my wife’s Z3 Dual(D6603) and try. Shouldn’t be any surprise though. Unlike Samsung, Sony Mobile uses one chip for JPN and Intl version, and among single and dual SIM variants.

  • dimz

Is there a list with Quick Charge 1.0 models?

  • Elena

What about Z5? Does it support?

  • Wai Hong Wong

    Does the z5 dual support?

  • Soumik Sarker

Why is there a difference in dual sim and single sim variant on z4/z3+ :/ both should have supported the quick charge :( i have the dual sim variant
