  • Ravi

Thank you Sony, waiting for Z2 :)

  • Chitti- The Robot

Hope battery performance improves and loud speaker volume increases.

  • DBS

You let me know exactly what they mean with “richer Xperia themes”.
Until then, my Z3C will remain on 4.4 KitKat as it currently is.

  • “– Camera focus, speed and accuracy improvements in Superior Auto mode”

does it have that “food mode” present on Z3+?

(btw, i love this videos ahaha)

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Battery is a must, today I rolled back to 4.4.2 on my Z2 because of the poor battery life.

  • MarkLastiwka

They showed it in the video. Looks pretty cool

  • DBS

Uh…if “richer Xperia themes” is changing the navigation icons (something you could do before Lollipop) then it’s not “richer” at all. Otherwise there’s nothing new in the video.
They better have opened up the Lollipop theme engine a lot more than that to call it “richer”.

  • Samuel

mmm, there was no need to boast about ” Additional options for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in notification menu”; it is a 5.1 feature, all 5.1 phones should have it.

  • bilomar

Take a feature out and put it in in the next version. Call it richer.

  • David Wasp

Looking at the changelog, I am not impressed, but if this is a bug free, stable update with kitkat level or better battery life, I am happy.
Maybe android M will have few good surprises for us.

  • bilomar

    Camera comparison anyone?

  • Sweggity

i don’t see any difference with battery life… it’s same like before to me

  • Sweggity

look on the bright side, sony is actually updating. Did u see the S4,S5, G2,G3, M7,M8 getting any 5.1 update? Cause the old S4 pro processor Xperia Z is getting.

  • MarkLastiwka

Rewatch the video again and focus on the background.

  • DBS

Live Wallpapers aren’t a new thing. And that “machine” look that you think is new, has been around since before Lollipop. Here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.thegreen.themes.steampunk

  • MrTheenD

Any news if it includes Camera API2?

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Really? I just downgraded and let’s see how it goes.Anyways they’ll push the update for Z2 today or tomorrow or this week (hopefully)

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    Nope they didn’t include. Bummer

  • Samuel

I was expecting a newer UI but it is the same! no new themes, the same old kit kat bootanimation,no new wallpapers…only the Z3+ got them.

  • MarkLastiwka

Hmmm, it never used to do that when I used that theme. I’m not too sure what they mean yet. We’ll have to wait and see.

Also the navigation icons were there for lollipop too, just the theme app needed to be updated to support 5.X.X.

  • Matt

good job, just stay there ! :)

  • MrTheenD

    Now I hate Sony.

  • David Wasp

Yeah, but I bought a Sony, don’t concern myself with other devices, don’t care. I love the phone I own. Largely due to battery life. All I care about is stability and battery life, Maybe because I owned a samsung before, too many issues, those guys just can’t keep things simple.

  • WilliamTell13

If this update fixes the constant launcher redraws on my Z1S, I’ll be super happy. That’s the only problem 5.0.2 created on my phone. On 4.4.4, I’d have a launcher redraw like once every few days. Now, it’s about 20 times a day, almost every time I hit the Home button.

  • Sandro

    Same problem with my Z3C…

  • joseph carmine nero

Richer Xperia themes sounds great.like kitkat

  • Tobias Hedlund

Tried my girlfriends Z3c and the camera in low-light. I saw no improvment at all with “better focus” and so on. The picture quality sucks in low-light, my G4 takes better photos in the same conditions even tough it has a smaller sensor. And i tried both Superior Auto and Manual mode with equal results.
    “Lollipop 5.1.1.”

  • Akand

Did they remove the floating “reply, reply all and forward” buttons at top of the screen while reading email?? For those floating buttons, reading last 2-3 lines of an email is almost impossible. Email App is very important for me. It must be fixed.

  • Mario Junior

    – Camera focus, speed and accuracy improvements in Superior Auto mode

TOP KEK! This crap is still the same.

  • ” J.D. “

So how do we go about getting this up date / I tried update in settings on my Z3 but no luck . Any info would be greatly appreciated :-)

  • Mohammad “Pogz” Talib

I was hoping for a longer list of changes/improvements. Will this be the last maintenance release? I’d still keep my Z2’s 4.4.4 until i hear 5.1 is far stable and better.

  • Robson Kanyama

Hopefully it’ll fix memory problems and improve battery life on my Xperia ™ Z2

  • Geferson Gonzales

hope so..speaker sound is very low even in maximum level..

  • jag

I just hope they resolve the heating issue of the camera app in the z3+!!! It just doesn’t make sense why the camera heats up even though you are only using the manual or auto mode and not 4K or AR modes!!! It is so frustrating sometimes when the camera app closes when you are taking pictures. Great quality though but the heating sucks.

  • Mario Junior

    Same shit, m8.

  • yep I’ve noticed this too :|

  • Alvin

Watching the video in this article, i can’t even hear it loud in my z3 because of that

  • Alvin

Gourmet? I already have it since 5.0 on my z3

  • Alvin

This changelog is enought to me. What’s matter is that battery, performance, and bug free

  • Dwy Bagus Cahyono

Nice work Sony.. Well the older xperia phone won’t get any official update, but fxp just made superb work by releasing the latest CM12.1 (lolipop 5.1 based cyanogenmod) update for my Sony Xperia SP. I’ll post my experience with this CM12.1 soon, and for the first hands on I could tell you that CM12.1 works really good performance and feature compared with CM11 (kitkat based).

  • Alvin

    – Camera focus, speed and accuracy improvements in Superior Auto mode

    Ha…ha….ha….alrighty then….
Should I laugh at it or just bash sony now?

  • Alvin

    Marketing…marketing..remember marketing..

  • Alvin

I’ll try to capture something before and after the update

  • Tommy He

No difference I can see on my Z1 Compact.

  • gamer324

Would be interesting to see a camera comparison of Superior Auto between updated z2/z3/z3+.
Honestly I hope that Sony properly revamps its theme engine, Sony has been resting on its laurels for far too long.

  • gamer324

Hm that’s disappointing, let’s just hope Sony gets its act together for its next flagship.

  • gamer324

It’s called a changelog, so yes there is a need to log that change.

  • raju

    Apk plz

  • raju

    That’s good

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Dammit really? I’ve seen so many people complain, anyways I downgraded so let’s see what’s the results gonna be, plus I’ll be trying 5.1.1 when it’s released to Z2.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Lol why is it good? It sucks

  • Natal

Have they changed the dialer yet? the old one looks like something from Android 2.3, hopefully they will use Nexus 5 dialer which I loved.

  • Ça?atay

I don’t know why but damn you Sony!!!

  • Rolf Martin Schmidt

Our Czech friends have posted a Video about the Sony XPERIA Z3 Compact with official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in English at the website xperiafirmware.com.

  • I don’t have it on my Z2 :(

  • Alvin

Aw right. I thought alk z series have it since 5.0.2

  • Tau45

    What about ART?

  • Pingback: ????? Android 5.1 ??? ?????? Sony Xperia | ???????????? ??????()

  • nick

    We r already on ART

  • Did they fix the idiotic blue status bar that appears on non lollipop updated apps ?

  • Alvin

    He’s sarcasric mate

  • Alvin

Agree with whatever characters you said

  • Alvin

Be grateful, bastard (I’m sorry i just can’t handle it, i am the one who got butthurt).. We are the one who got great updates even for 2013 devices. Even s5, m8, and g3 didn’t get that thing yet. :D:)

  • marcyff2

on manual you can “force” the phone to perform better under low light. I am guessing it has a similar sensor to z2, so i am sure of that.

  • Exodite

Still no good reason to ditch KitKat on my Z3c then.

  • KarenREsparza
  • spatch72

When do we get landscape mode on the Z3?

  • Adrian M
  • Chitti- The Robot

I can barely hear ringtone . Very low earpiece volume during calls.

  • Arch9

Just got the 23.4.A.0.546 ota for Z3 Compact D5833 in indonesia

What ugly is Lollypop, those orange colors make me back to kitkat, those material design is so flat

  • fried_egg

the SW2 can not only control my Z1 camera, it also shows a live (if stuttering) picture of what my phone is looking at … then possible to take a photo or start the video..

Is the new update gonna fixes the sudden death issue?

  • Sweggity

the reason sony is able to push updates faster cause they r keeping their roms like stock android.

  • Tau45

Check it in cpu-z and art checker, both says dalvik

  • nick

Both are not detecting the ART and about art checker it also mentions nexus 6 as dalvik n we know it runs on ART,lollipop cannot run on dalvik.
U can read the comments on play store before recommending the art checker!!!

  • nick

    Here are the comments

  • malav patel

Being a xperia fan I am having to switch to the galaxy s6 cause there isn’t a good upgrade from the original z. Z3+ have over heat problems and I can’t wait for the latest flagship

  • raju

    What memory problem?

  • raju

    Art means what?

  • prof

Tommy He is talking about his Z1 compact, bro. Our Z2’s are different. We have same problem, tsk.

  • JacquelynDAsbury
  • Alvin

based on the video above, i think if we want to complain or want to give compliments about our os, ui, and updates for sony phones, we should complain or give it all to emma watson ;)

  • Mohsen Yehia

well , my T2 ultra Dual has no problems i read from you guys , i dont know why you getting such issues but my battery day life is fine , speakers louder after upgrading to V5.0.2 ,very clear calling voice in earpiece .

  • Brendan Parsons

Oh please, give us an option in the settings to turn off LED while charging.

  • Desert Prince

I updated my z2 today morning to the latest version 5.1 and the battery just drained out in 7hours with very low usage & without 4G… even i lost my words from dictionary as well…anyone facing same problem…??

  • Aby

After updating Z2 D6503 with Lollipop 5.1, battery is draining fast and phone is little hot all time when even I’m not using it . Any solutions ?

  • Razvan

Will we find the function Doube Tap 2 Wake being integrated in the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Official Software? I read on some Dev site’s that it can support it.
    Greeting’s.

  • Tommy He

I think they also mentioned it’s a feature that require hardware support, which isn’t the case for Z1 Compact.

  • JonShipman

Just a note, most battery problems on Android can be attributed to apps. I uninstalled Facebook and use Tinfoil now, and all my battery problems went away. YMMV, but for me FB was the culprit.

  • That is a critical issue to solve. I’m already afected with this on my Z3c. 5 months of use now is completly dead. Shame on you Sony. Crap of quality.

  • Mark Anthony Vista

Recent Apps “Close All” – Icon changed from simple close all at the top, to a small circle at the buttom..

    Small apps web- icon changed

  • Ralph Ellis

Your best bet for improved battery life is to do a clean install of the operating system via Sony PC Companion. Installing from scratch often fixes some issues because of not having to deal with previous configuration files. I found improved battery performance. Also, as normal, start removing old apps that you really don’t use. These still try to run in the background and do drain your battery. Good luck.

  • Yves Ligot

My Xperia M2 is much faster now, and battery looks like needing less reload, but THE VOLUME LEVEL IS A DISASTER !! I don’t even want to listen to music with it, cause it’s so weak ! How sad ….
