Android 5.1 Sony XperiaIf you are awaiting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update for your Sony Xperia device, then you may want to check out a few hands-on videos below to show what you have to look forward to. The videos show the new changes that this update brings versus the previous Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware builds. If you have had a chance to play with the newest Android 5.1 firmware for a couple of days, we’d love to hear how you’re getting on in the comments below.

  • Is it out for Z2 yet? The official site says yes, but I haven’t received it, hasn’t rolled out to my region yet.

  • Raymond

My take, battery has improved a lot, dont seem to go down when not used, and it is much faster, low battery notification noise back, some ui changes but they are quite good, I am happy with it so far, just waiting for the UK firmware to be back at home lol but a huge improvement in my opinion, I don’t know if it is Sony or Android 5.1.1 but feels a lot better bar the odd app not working due to not being updated.

  • Leo M

Anybody knows when it’s rolls out on Z2? Next Monday maybe?

  • Joakim Andersson

The auto camera is much better. Big difference I think. Love the small icons but they fell a little bit misplaced. The new sound bar is perfect. Haven’t noticed battery improvement but I used the phone much. Wounder what next update will do.!?

  • Sweggity

    it’s weird sony’s official website says 5.1.1 is available… but it isn’t

  • Sweggity

    it didn’t roll out anywhere

  • Kevin Pang

Credit to “XPERIA” (YouTube channel) and for making these videos if anyone is interested.

  • Kristijan Kaši?

I hope for Z2 that .570 will be ours! :D

  • Raymond

Region dependent and obviously carrier dependent, as they have a habit of refusing to roll the updates out as they fail testing even though most times its only minor bugs.

  • Adrian M

    I hate his english -.-

  • Kristijan Kaši?

U r right, but isn’t it little odd that no carrier rolled out the update? Not even ONE carrier?

  • Guest

    No thanks, spammer

  • Stanley08

I don’t know, probably the Xposed modules i’m using but battery life dropped. Android OS draining more battery.

Also, only bottom speaker works on loudspeaker mode when making calls. don’t know if it was always like this tho. Xperia Z3

  • theskig

    bookmarked ;)

  • Santiago Ospina Areiza

I was looking forward to see the new xperia z3+ live wallpaper but overall it’s ok

  • inspire
  • Ulysses Grant

You can’t blame the accent. It seems that he has a Singaporean accent. Though their really good in English but not the accent. Regardless, he made his point and very excited to get my Z2 upgraded to 5.1.1.

  • Vinícius Azzolin

I notice that even for Z3 it is going very slow, if we need to wait until the Z3 is finished probably we are going to receive just in the end of the next week. =( (Or maybe they are planning on release the new certified one instead)

  • Kristijan Kaši?

    I hope so :S

  • ShinOrochiX

Is it me or do the wifi and mobile signal icons in the status bar not fit in? From my experience with Xperia this has always been an issue, not wifi/signal specifically but other icons as well.

  • Orçun Bakkal

this guy’s english is killing me

  • Orçun Bakkal

    thank you

  • mike

even 9.1 is useless since they still can not fix the mail push issue

  • Timel

    Cheap as shit

Material design is the ugliest Flat UI

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I think this Tuesday they’ll release huh

  • Alvin

Oh would you people shut your fu*k up about saying this person’s english? I know it isn’t the best english in this whole damn world but just shut up

  • Alvin

But do you notice that even the old bugs are fixed, they brought new bugs too.

Like on me, i can see that when i first unlock my phone for since like an hour before, when i pull down the status bar, the colour suddenly becomes brighter and a few seconds later turns into what it is again, and my battery feels a bit better on 5.0.2 than on 5.1.1 too

  • Killian Khoo

Looking for my Xperia ZR Android 5.1.1 update ~

  • Sadman Khan

Turn off adaptive brightness. That’s the only solution for now

  • Alvin

Oh that solves it, thanks mate

  • Sepehr Estaki

    Always like this (speakers)

  • Patrol619

Check in Xperiafirm. There is 5.1.1 released in T-Mobile in different countries.

  • Patrol619

Are there default wallpapers and themes from Z3+ included, or there are still Old themes and wallpapers?

  • Patrol619

Yes it did, in T-Mobile in many countries.

  • Sadman Khan

    Glad to help :D

  • henk

Nope, still the same old Kitkat Themes and Wallpapers.

  • Pingback: ????? ????: ????? ??????? 5.1.1 ?? ??? ??????? ??3 ?????? ? ??3 ???? ?????? | ?????()

  • Joe Black

    Czech accent I believe.

  • Joe Black

VIP je izbacio 5.1.1 za Z3 Compact npr, carrierima treba duže.

  • aman ansari

I like his accent and how he says Sony mobile compay…:-D

  • Alvin

    singaporean???? no, not at all.

that is indian-ish (well not that much), european-ish, or east/south european-ish accent to me

  • Alvin

still old themes and wallpapers, but you can download it, right? Even I use the wallpaper from z3+ for my z3

nothing can’t be solved with porting and downloading

  • Alvin

@smartphonetechie : get your ass off this website

  • Patrol619

Yes, I know that, but it’s always nice to have them included default by Sony.

  • Alvin

yeah so we don’t have to download it again to waste our time and our internet mobile data/wifi. but if they don’t include it, the only solution are to port it or just get a z3+

well if you get a z3+, at least you could get that phone bundled with built-in iron and pan..

  • Sweggity

yea tuesday, i think they will release the bug fixed one

  • Raymond

Yeah I guess that is a bug, but I never used adaptive brightness anyway I used an app called LUX and I loved it until it stoped working in this update.

  • Claudiu

Do you mean no mobile radio battery drain?

  • John Walker

there is no issue. you have to go to settings and enable it manualy.. its not turned on by default

  • Sadman Khan

    Was always like this

  • Alvin

lux? okay will try it later if it also do the same with mine

but that is not that big problem for me, i feel like the battery performance is reduced though, that’s what’s annoyed me so much

  • Timel

  • Raymond

Laying dormant etc, not using it so yeah that would include the radio.

  • Raymond

Maybe try a factory reset on this firmware, yeah the old firmware has took its toll on the battery I think

  • Khaled Magdy

I’ve got the same issue with the brightness. Really annoying as the colors become really washed out when the brightness is too high. And I dont really want to try a factory reset as the phone is running well otherwise.

  • Alvin

But you got my point, right? Yes at first it washed out but a second or so later, it becomes like the way it is again.

Yeah me too, I’m so lazy and don’t want to reset my phone.

  • Alvin

Not you, but for people who judge his english

  • basheer

Still nothing for xperia z2 but in sony site showing 5.1.1 available

  • Raymond

Depends how your using your mobile or things downloading in the background but it is tons better than the last update.

  • bilomar

Great, now I have to wait till Monday for the update. Germany always gets the updates after the weekend.

  • Rafael Nunes

For those Xperia Z2 users running 4.4.4 kitkat, what’s better compared to 5.0.2? Why do you still on KitKat? My Z2 is running 5.0.2 and I’m looking for better battery and memory management

  • Kristijan Kaši?

    I have z2, not z3

  • Timel

I mean, I just want to know why, why they shouldn’t judge his english?

  • Timel

    I hate your worthless english
At least he made two good videos while you did nothing but judge.

  • Adrian M

I have many Xperia videos. Some from 5.1.1 too hahah

  • Alvin

because it is not his first language and I know english is an international language but if people can’t say or pronounce something in the words right, they can’t just talk s*** about that guy’s english. You don’t need to ask why, timel..:):)

it’s like discriminating people and put them to shame. Even his english isn’t good, at least he has a lot of money :D

  • Vinícius Azzolin

But for Xperia Z3, not yet for xperia Z2, at least on XperiFirm.

  • Denis Deny Jamny

He’s Czech. I know it, couse he has 2 websites: English and Czech. And by Czech standards, he’s better than most of the Czech polititians. So …
And I remember that it was the viewers who made him to speak both Czech and English.

  • iia3ezu

Some of us just don’t really dig the Material Design in Lollipop. Kit Kat was okay in UI design.

  • Sadman Khan

Resetting won’t help though. The only solution right now is to turn of adaptive brightness

  • raju

    Still not for z1

  • Kitkat is way better than lollipop, i upgraded to lollipop and did not like it, bateery barely stands forba day now, lots of bugs, i cant change notification for Twitter app, lags alot.

  • Exactly

  • Faisal Haddad

When will it release on Xperia z2?

  • Shehab Skull

    +1 :3

  • Mohammad “Pogz” Talib

I got my z2 with 4.4.4 kitkat out of the box. Im not sure what bug issues are in it as it hasn’t bothered my experience. I want to update to lollipop 5.1 but it ain’t available yet, though i wanna make sure i won’t regret doing so. Based on previous 5.0.2 reviews i read about, i thought sticking with kitkat is better. IMHO..

  • Kristijan Kaši?

    Nobody knows :/

  • Igor Helal

I think Sony skipped the first 5.1.1 firmware for z2… Let’s wait for. 570

  • the_matchless

Could you confirm weather this update has brought back the equalizer effectiveness across the platform as was in Kitkat? like for instance of I playback video or music on some third party app, does the native equalizer work with that so. That’s the main reason why I’ve downgraded my Z3 to Kitkat. Please advise. (VIA HEADPHONE)

  • Alvin

    Alrigt thanks mate

  • Sadman Khan

Works on Poweramp. You just have to enable MusicFX in poweramp settings. I tried changing equaliser, switching on/off Clearaudio+ and changing the surround. All of them work without problems

  • Sadman Khan

However headphone profiles still cause issues

  • Anurag Krishna

I have that issue with my Z1 on 5.0 I can confirm factory reset doesn’t work. It happens when I wake my phone up and it flashes really brightly with the colors washed out and then goes back to normal. Maybe turn off adaptive brightness like suggested above.

  • Debra
  • HAWX

He made his point well EVENTHOUGH his English is not that good. If you watch his channel he wasn’t making videos in English at the beginning. This is considered as success and I RESPECT him and his not good accent.

If you want to hear some nice English go watch BBC. Smartphone is an international sector era from hardware to software. Stop blaming people’s English. It’s iritating and it’s like some kind of racism.

Edit: If you don’t still don’t understand then watch BBC. This time Big Black Cocks you damn English fag.

  • Alvin

Yeah it is. Not maybe but it should be:)

  • Omg, maybe

  • Amel_Marie

Haven’t received 5.1.1 update for my Z3 here in Malaysia.

  • Sweggity

coming out for z2 this Tuesday

  • Sweggity

no it didn’t i am talking about the .570 update not carrier based

  • Kristijan Kaši?

  • Sadman Khan

Those who have issues with setting the “whole of the image” as a wallpaper, download this. For some reason it was missing in 5.1.1

  • Sweggity

    source is me

  • cloud269

Already got the update last friday. XZ3, Vodafone, Germany

  • Antonis Kalaitzakis

    5.1.1 started rolling out for Z2 D6503!

  • the_matchless

Thanks man that’s exactly what I was referring to. Good to hear that most of it is back sadly except for the headphone setting I hope the effectiveness of the native equalizer settings via the third party apps such as power amp would be as good as in the Kitkat or better as it really really makes the music sound great on the Z3. Now waiting for the update to arrive.

  • Sweggity

It’s our for carrier today tomorrow non branded.

  • Sadman Khan

I felt like going back to Kitkat after 5.0.2 update just for the audio quality but now i’m satisfied :D

  • LindaCFreshour
  • Gabriel Voica
  • vov

    what about Z3 dual?

  • CherylCHanson

Now the lockscreen does not give me the prediction for estimated charging time amymoreanymore :(

  • Sadman Khan

  • the_matchless

I updated my phone via flashtool, the equalizer doesn’t control the audio across the platform the way it used to in Kitkat and strangely the poweramp in my phone is now not showing the music fx button an option I was counting on. Mind you I have the full version of poweramp. How come your phone still has the option while mine doesn’t?

  • Sadman Khan

You have to enable musicfx in poweramp settings.

  • the_matchless

Lolz yes I did realize later that poweramp has this option turned off by default for Sony due to its lollipop 5.0 issue from version 580 and up till date. Thanks again man. Everything works now including the headset profiles. I am very happy and waiting for official update now, till then sticking with Kitkat.

  • Sadman Khan

    Sure man :D

  • BarKohba

My device, after the 5.1 update, CLEARLY has lost about 20% of it’s sound volume. It is without a doubt a level or two quieter, through headphones, than it was on 5.0.2. Which sucks because the Z3 wasn’t loud enough to begin with.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

  • Stanley08

Thought as much. Back to 5.0.2 anyways. 5.1 had bad battery.
