Has the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact just leaked with fingerprint scanner?

by XB on 3rd August 2015

in Rumours, Xperia Z5 series

Sony Xperia fingerprint scannerA picture allegedly showing the next Xperia Z series flagship and compact model has appeared from tipster ?@vizileaks. Could this be the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact model that will launch in the second half of this year? Both handsets sit between an iPhone – the larger Z series model nearest to us shows the fingerprint scanner that sits on the right side of the phone. The volume control has therefore moved lower down. The OmniBalance is used again, which fits with what we’ve heard for the H2 Xperia Z-series release. Do you like what you see? Chime in with your comments below.

Thanks to all that sent this in!

  • God

  • Zack Mills

    Looks great!

  • fried_egg

a month away from the german expo… i will take a Z5 please, in gold this time… oh and EE you had better have this from launch with all the freebies just like the Z1… if EE doesnt have it then Sony have trouble… (EE being the biggest UK phone company until 02/3 merger goes through) Vodafone are pushing the 3+ hard this week, but EE did not pick it up and have reduced their range to 5 xperia phones (including colour options and refurbs as separate phones)

  • Srijan Chawla

The next big thing is coming & it’s going to be absolutely amazing !!
The “Real Flagship Killer” is coming :P

  • Tangent Lin

Focus on the brain of the Z5 before this.

  • inspire

So, it’s a “thumb print” scanner (not the finger print) xD

  • KzX

    Same desigh. Meh
I was hoping for Y concept.

  • besk

my money is waiting if Z5 has all these rumored features. Give me 5 perfect reasons to buy Z5 over Z2 and im in. dont disappoint me Sony

  • Tsakane

I was hoping for thinner bezels and omg that volume key is way too low. I sure hope that isn’t the final design.

  • kenobi

    same design again? it’s suicide

  • Mike Gonzalez

same design all over again?! my gosh Sony, wake up!!!!!

  • mohsen

    really?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    very awesome news

  • jonyah

I’ve never been a fan of the finger print scanner and that hasn’t changed. There’s nothing here to like.

  • jonyah

    They’re smaller than the iphones.

  • Abdul Ghani

this phone will be super expensive

  • fried_egg

design is fine… the iphone hardly really changed. what would you like 1950s american car back wings?

  • fried_egg

like S6 where buyers went oh edge & plastic one, meh… they got it right with the Z and have only needed to tweak it… what would you like, back to the unloved (but i loved mine) S with its light bar… or the T with its slight curve… or how about a thin quality slab like the Z3 just evolved a little more…

  • Abdul Ghani

did sony just killed m5 and c5 ?

  • thew01

still best lah……laying out the finger scanning to the power button is quite good ,not copy design like H*C or o*e + 2 like nyamnyung have

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Sony just didn’t let customers to enjoy Z3+.
So many devices now, and Hopefully Z5 will have SD820(fingerscrossed)

  • inspire

Edges are being hidden under a blackish bumber, if you look at the image zoomed in. So don’t jump to conclusions that you see the complete design yet!
    I suspect a Y(ish) concept here.

  • fried_egg

The design thing makes me laugh.. I still get people asking me if my Z1 is “the new iphone?” when they see it… Sony got it right, and are right to just keep improving what is basically a thin rectangle with a large screen… there isnt much more you can do to it… the Z1 & 3 & 3+ look quality, feel quality…

  • inspire

On launching E class, Mercedes just doesn’t kill C class and A class!

  • 21187

    or the S class (Z)

  • Raj Singh

I really like the signature Xperia power button.

  • nick sweden

no it rumors say its gonna be complete new, none or not many gonna buy this if only a little upgrade , i dont think this is them cause this is thicker than z3+ :O

  • Eduardo Otero

No, it will have SD810, SD820 will appear until next year

  • Eduardo Otero

    iPhone 5 or 6??
I wouldn’t like my next Z Compact to be bigger than an IPhone 6…

  • Nawi

No. The “reduced bezels” fans still can go with C5 ultra ^^

    Z5 for me

  • Alex

Don`t worry, snapdragon 810 and sony programmers will help you *_*

  • Kamil1308

Damn right, I got the z3+ now I am disappointed I did.

  • Aaron Rymer

Looks like it’s a 5 to me, so it’s all good!

  • besk

the problem with sony is once you use their product you will never want to buy other brands but then they don’t release a perfect flagship consistently….so have to wait n wait…. :(

  • Choaib Kanouni

What about design? Its perfect or you want a phone like a wave.

  • ludimilojko

Oh, no!!! No fingerprint scanner, please! Please don’t let it be a fingerprint scanner!

  • Amir

    Yup, it is iphone 5/5s.

  • Confruggy

I also get people asking me to my M2 “Is this a Z3?”

  • Aiden Pearce

    bezels..dammit

  • itsmeeee

Lol you said it perfectly, now that I’ve experienced the Xperia Z3C I am spoilt and don’t want to buy anything other than Sony but because the Xperia Z4 was disappointing I have to wait.

  • itsmeeee

LOL you should just say yes

  • Doubleyoupee

I wan’t bezels like my ZL or better….

  • Doubleyoupee

What about reduced bezel fans that don’t want a phablet?

  • nfs2010

What’s the big deal beside FP scanner ? It looks fatter than IP5 (& Z3+). It’ll probably come with SD810 as well if they launch it next month.

  • daniel kudo

The power button with fingerprint scanner is spot on with the recent leaks but I’m disappointed with the same design all over again, why not Sony use Xperia Y Concept with that power button

  • daniel kudo

I hope Sony can fit 4.500 MAh battery on that + wireless charging and 2/3″ camera sensor because it looks thicker than the current Xperia Z3/Z3+

  • iCeQubeTomato

that’s not how i feel lol. I just sold my Z Ultra for a Nexus 6.

  • Mark Holmes

Is that a USB type C port? I cant tell.

  • Anukul

I really like the design, it’s less flashy and makes the phone look a bit rugged.

  • Aiden Pearce

i would readily accept a thicker phone but less bezels more mAh and wireless charging would be good

  • engaaaa

Given everything we’ve learned about privacy and surveillance in the last year, I really, really, don’t want a phone with a fingerprint scanner on it. I don’t want my phone to collect MORE information on me. I want BETTER privacy controls and, ideally, magnetic charging. WTF Sony????

Also, is this compact bigger than the Z3 Compact? I can’t tell, but I hope not.

  • Pingback: Z5 and Z5C leaked - www.hardwarezone.com.sg()

  • Kamil1308

What I meant was that they are already releasing a new phone. I have the z3+ for less then a month and within next month another one will be announced.

  • Arda Akca

    No Ultra again…

  • laci_csk

Oh yes, we need a phablet with highend specs from Sony.

  • besk

See its different with different people..but if Z5 has to be a success then this is what most of them would intend to see.
Maybe waterproofing n design is not be your priority.
Whenever I see touch wiz though it has good features I feel it looks too immature n underdeveloped.

  • Vjekoslav Andric

Get a z3c, or z5c…those are thin bezels for thin bezel freaks.
Gosh, I do not get you thinners at all, is it a fetish thing? or more psychosis alike, like anorexia disorder or sth?

  • Mathias Cronqvist

Not everything Apple does is an example… I’d argue very little is.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    Me sad :( I wish man I wish :(

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I just don’t understand this company sometimes, smh

  • Vjekoslav Andric

What exactly is same from this pic here?
You want an original unique screenless phone? Or a sony phone without sonys recognitions like shutterbutton or steel powerbutton?
So go get an iphone for christs sake
From what I can see there, its all one alloy steel to the back, I cant quite make out the speakers, the powerbutton is bigger with fprint sensor…maybe its usb c on the bottom there. That z5c looks like Y design though

  • nfs2010

Apple’s success is an example though. Why do think Z3 was more successful than Z2 & Z1 even though it was the least impressive one? Cause they finally put some efforts into marketing.

  • Kristo

It might still come. We don’t know yet :)

  • LiterofCola

    Keep crying

  • Kristo

I feel the same way. I haven’t changed phone since the Xperia Z came out

  • BarKohba

My money is on a mule. The new power button might be legit, but it doesn’t really fit in with the other buttons and the design in general. Therefore this device is a Z3 mule. Z3 shell, with a different power button (most probably the actual one, with fingerprint scanner, we will find on the final production unit) and Z5 internals. Just to not spoil the design.

At least I hope so. It would make 0 sense for the Z5 to be identical to the Z3.

  • Doubleyoupee

    What?
    It’s not “thinner”.
It’s a bigger screen but normal sized phone.

  • apolloa

That does seem like a daft place for the finger print scanner to go? Guess it wold be one of those try it out to see for yourself.
I hate to say it though, the iPhone looks a lot better design wise next to them, I guess it’s because of all the fancy leaks i’ve seen suggesting a great new design and these are just the same old thing. I mean at least Apple change the design every 2 years.

  • inspire

Oh genius!… Because it’s technically difficult (or not yet possible) to have ip68 rated phone with razor thin bezels!
    That’s why C5U has it but not m5, z5!

  • Toni_Ai

M5 + new button and probably minijack goes down. Well done Sony, very VERY good work. BORING:

  • roeshak

Z3 wasn’t more successful than z2 or Z1. Get your facts right Bro!

  • kido

If m5 wasn’t exiting enough! Come at me September :p

  • kido

    Design your own phone then

  • Akand

Absolutely right. That’s the fucking power of Sony products. Once in, there is almost no way out. Waiting for about 1 year. Still not that bored with current one.

  • Akand

Most perfect placement of fingerprint sensor ever.

  • Arda Akca

Well still no leaks, it’s %99 not gonna happen.

  • Okazuma

    Absolutly true

And who told u that Sony selling 11.8 million units in the three months to December last year was down to the z3. Do the math, they only made $80 million in profit which points to low profit margins which stem from sales of older heavily discounted devices like the z2 and Z1 as opposed to sales of the newer z3.
Even Sony said themselves that the result was down to having a good mix which was just diplomatic language for we were selling loads of heavily discounted z2s.

  • nfs2010

One word – ASP. Don’t be so lazy – do the math or I’ll do it for you:)

  • Bashir Salleh

quite a weird placement for volume rocker ?

  • J Cav the Great

Finger print sensor on the side…Genius!!!!!!

  • J Cav the Great

Looking forward to the Z5 Compact

  • J Cav the Great

Design = If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it..

  • lbwc

Is the Z5 going to be 5.5 inch screen? I hope not. But even if 5.5 inch screen…I love where they put the fingerprint scanner instead of how Oneplus put it on the Oneplus 2. Yes…Sony take my money now.

  • lbwc

That’s what I was wondering too. If that’s an iPhone 5/5s…then I will be happy since it will mean that the screen of the Z5 will still be 5.2 inches. I would hate to have to carry a larger sized omnibalance phone. No offence to Z Ultra users…

  • DBS

The placement of the volume keys makes NO sense. They should go ABOVE the power button, not below. It becomes way too overcrowded.

As for the Z5C…well, I will only buy it under very specific conditions, namely:
    – it does NOT have the SD810;
    – it HAS a new camera WITH OIS;
    – the camera HAS full manual controls;
    – It keeps the Z3C size;
    – it has Qi charging capabilities.

Otherwise I’m not buying another Xperia as Sony clearly isn’t interested in keeping up with the competition.

  • Special One

l want to buy another brand but l just can’t bring myself to do it !!
l know it’s stupid but l just can’t get rid pf Sony :)

  • Augustine Kau

Fingerprint scanner! wooohoo! oh wait, same omni-balance design? hmm….

  • Joe Black

Some chinese brand already made one that looks like that. Identical

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

    if no sd820 am out!

  • Alvin

Oh yeah it’sin the powerbutton now.

But that beautiful ‘signature’ power button is gone

  • Alvin

    Yeah just out

  • Alvin

I’m too addicted for sony products, when I’m trying to switch to others, i just can’t.

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

funny thing is the way I see its not clickable, so how do you turn on the phone?

  • Alvin

    Ummm…. Double tap to wake?

Of course you can click it.

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

no i mean a cold boot

  • RealityCheck2015

    I would Finger it ;-o :-D ;)

  • ibolito

So the z5 compact is bigger than the already big iPhone 6? farewell Sony, more than 4,6″ is too big for me

  • Paz04

Look closer; it’s an iPhone 5S, not 6.

  • Which? Im curious

  • Camilo

I’m not against a Snapdragon 810 since all the overheating and stuff was a little bit overblown. Supposedly v2.1 hasn’t these issues. Still, I would change my Z3 with the next flagship with 4k HDR recording, and I think that comes with Snapdragon 820. I’ll go with a better camera, that’s my preference.

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

the v2.1 is undercloked at 1.8ghz the top four cores vs 2.0/2.1ghz the previous versions some benchmarks show the thermal throttling is so severe that sometimes it even barely performs on par with sd805. as for the z5 camera I am sure it will be the same 21.5MP that is in the just announced M5

  • daniel kudo

I don’t care if some Chinese brands copying that, no one’s care

  • kido

    Design your own phone hahaha

  • kido

    Haahahahha well said

  • kido

All good sony, now please dont Forget full manual controls for the camera at least please. If those beauties come out with full manual control im completely sold

  • Alfino Setya

iPhone didn’t change their design, People don’t mind and not whining crazily about that but when Sony don’t change their design, People started whine and complain crazily as hell about that! :-

  • Snorky112

the iphone shows december 2014… just sayin…

  • Alfino Setya

“With that same big loud opinion but nobody’s listening, washed up and ranting about the same old bitter thing” It’s for those complainer and whinner outside there lolz XD

  • Ichsan Reza

If u have z3 or z3+,u wont sell it for any nexus product

  • daniel kudo

    You deserve some cookies sir

  • daniel kudo

And I think that was prototype so I hope the final design is not like this

  • Shuibullah Amran
  • Chi Wai Shum

The power button as the finger print sensor seems too small. How reliable would that be?

  • Billy de Fretes

it’s 5s not iphone 6 so z5 c still maintain compact body with hi tech inside :D

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

    hmm…

  • jamie evans

I’m so sick of Omni_Balance design. Xperia Z’s design has to change.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Totally agree with you it really look ugly -_-

    I hope it’s fake

  • jamie evans

I prefer C5’s bezel-free design, way much better and more innovative than Z5

  • jag

WHAAAAAAATTTTTT???!!!! Now I have to buy another flagship! haha! If this is gonna be SD820 then I’m gonna go sell my Z3+! haha

  • Mokhtar Mouhib

I sold my z2 for s6 edge .. z2 still my lovely phone , but the s6 edge is just another level.. never regret it

  • steary_eye

A fingerprint scanner that isn’t right at the bottom? Best design placement ever. It is not wrong when Apple first design it as it was then only a 4″ screen but with a 6+ is just downright horrible. I hope SenseID is just as great as it sounds!

  • steary_eye

Lol. In my area they know shit of Sony phones too. I am still loving my Z1 design. No desire to change like the iPhone users. However, these days it does seems to hang badly at random. Looks like with the fingerprint scanner is the best time to get a new phone!!!

  • 21187

Sony really needs to make sure the fingerprint scanner works reliably

  • mugglearchitect

The circle button sony used in their recent phones has in my opinion become iconic. It will be a stupid move to replace something that sets a sony phone apart from others. Though I must say putting the scanner on the side is logical. :)

  • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

i guess now the only thing left unique is its still silver lol

  • Nawi

Look the Z5 screen. Sensor only reads a small part

It’s right for the size =)

  • Amabird

    Usb type c!

  • Alvin

    Ikr lol

  • Alvin

Ow that… Sure we could do that

  • Simon Setyadarma

and the volume button is just not at the right spot, gonna find difficulties to change volume :

  • RockStar2005

    Daniel,

Man I’m WITH you on the design! the Y Concept was THA BOMB! And the size…….. wtf?! I hate phablets……….. anything over 5.3″ to me is a phablet. Ughh…… I hope the Z6 will be smaller, but I dunno.

  • Rishwan Balak

    Looks awesome!

  • DBS

That’s irrelevant to me. Actually, it may be a nuisance. I’d rather have 3.0 USB with QuickCharge and Qi built in than a USB-C entry when all my current cables are non-typeC.

  • nfs2010

It’ll be a miracle if Sony pulls SD820 on this. But they proved me wrong by releasing M5 a month after M4’s launch – lmao

  • Raj Singh

I’m talking about the iconic, circular Xperia power button… like the one on my Z Ultra.

  • Mads

Stop using cases for Z series :)
How the finger swipe will work with cases ?

  • Emir Zarith

LOL xperia zl is not waterproof!!!!!!!

Then register your left index finger or whatever finger that can reach
the fingerprint sensor, it doesn’t limit you to using only your thumb.
The previous version also had right side power button yet I hardly seen

  • ChrisI

Holy *hit….is that a physical camera button???? If it is, and all the rumors turn out to be true with huge battery, SD slot, awesome processor, 4gb RAM, HD screen, and amazing camera, then this is it. Dream device. Please…..please……please…….please……

  • gamer324

They probably chose to keep the corner caps for their practicality, the shock absorption of those nylon corners is really quite amazing.
This leak kind of confirms the bump to 5.5″ (most likely QHD at this point, honestly would’ve loved to have a FHD xperia with s820 for the extreme gpu grunt).
I do hope that Sony either uses a curved imx230, or adds another lens to its g-lens arrangement ( making it 6 piece, up from 5) to get rid of the edge softening on the current xperias.

    LoL. That’s so stupid

Please, honest job search for that people!

    they are blind?

  • nfs2010

Yep, SD820 looks very promising. But what’s Sony going to do with this Z5? SD810 with FP scanner? They are acting weird lately lol

  • HAWX

People who say “Why do we need less bezel!”, Logic please.
-For many people phones are already quite big. And dull bezzels make the phones bigger, less comfortable to hold, more difficult to reach the top of the screen etc.
-Phones with small bezels looks more futurstic and elegant.
-Phones will be easier to fit pockets and they will disturb less while sitting.
-(Vice versa) You might get a device with bigger screen for a given area.

Oh, and the one on the picutre looks to have smaller bezels than Z3+, which is quite good.

  • azzido

    Z3 ++ is coming?

  • stolnheartdealr

    Is this a serious question???

Same way a USB port works with a case installed, they don’t cover it up.

  • Abhinav Tella

Rumors already are there of the Z5+ carrying the SD820 in March of 16 and that the Z5 will have the S810 again this Sept.

As for the rest I honestly dont know, would be nice if we could get a fingerprint scanner within the LCD assembly but that’s probably not going to happen for a few years.

  • En.Pasta.Tack

Too bad that people without thumbs won’t be able to use the phone. I don’t like the placement of the fingerprint scanner.

  • En.Pasta.Tack

There is no demand for Ultra.

I wonder why they decided to go with a fingerprint scanner. The technology is about to become obsolete.
In Japan there are already local smartphones with Iris-scanner.

Microsoft is fitting iris scanners to it’s Lumia phones.

    That is funny.

  • Just Me

I don’t think that is the compact in the far side of the picture. I think that is the Z5. It is bigger than the iPhone 6 next to it and the screen is clearly bigger than that of the. 4.7 inch iPhone. I think the Z5 ultra is in the foreground of the shot.

  • Le Kawaii Potatoe

The power button should be more pronounced and the volume button should be moved to the other side (it’s too down low).

  • Haymkarran S Bhalla

    care to explain?

  • Haymkarran S Bhalla

Hmm. I get your point. I’m used to waking up the phone with the home button on my S3. Thanks for your reply.

    Force Touch ? :)

  • Abhinav Tella

I don’t think simply adding 10+ cores will do as much as you think for battery life…. If so Intel / AMD / IBM / Samsung and others would have done so long back.

    1. Qualcomm is once again using custom cores modified for increased performance and battery life. The A72 based Hydra core.
Mediatek only uses stock ARM cores if I am not mistaken.

    http://www.phonearena.com/news/A-ton-of-Snapdragon-820-details-leak-14nm-quad-Hydra-CPUs-with-35-better-performance-new-Adreno-530-GPU_id72310

    2. On the GPU front as well the Arena 530 is in all likelihood more efficient and powerful.

    3. Qualcomm CPUs have integrated LTE modems for increased power savings. I doubt Mediated can outdo Qualcomm on the modem front as of now.

    4. Adding that many cores is just a waste of silicon for diminishing power saving returns. It’s looking more like a gimmick.

  • Abhinav Tella
  • Abdul Ghani

its not just adding cores mediatek already made a72 cores in their x20 and its divided into 3 sets 2 a72 for high power tast 4 a 53 at 2ghz for medium tast and 4 a 53 at 1.4 ghz for low power saing task the method by mediatek already proved it saves battery life and fast blazing performance

so something before praising qualcomm do some research on mediatek idiot

  • Abhinav Tella

No need to insult people its not like any of these companies are putting food on your plate lol. You can be civilized.

I already know its divided into 3 sets, I said you get DIMINISHING returns with all those cores meaning its a waste of silicon and its a marketing gimmick.

Qualcomm is using customized/more optimized cores unlike Mediatek who uses stock A72s and integrating an on die LTE modem also increases power savings………

Mediatek may in the future be more competetive in the high end but not right now. I suggest you actually learn more about how CPUs function before insulting others.

  • Abdul Ghani

Ill be civilized if ur points make any sense apple has zero multi tasking its kinda shit comparing ios vs android and may I remind u after apple release their new phone old phones with bew update becomes laggy and has weird bugs while new released ones are okish smooth

Next thing watch and read about mediatek cpu tri clusters with core pilot its now becoming famous and in reality I say its super fast after using htc e9+ no lag good battery life no heating and runs all high end games their x20 is kills snapdragon 810 a d upcoming x30 features are so rich it kills 820 way ahead
Don’t just read how many cores it has about x20 and x30 read the features what they are providing

  • Abhinav Tella

The S810 was not a great upgrade by far, but what I am saying is that in terms of the modem and sensors package overall Qualcomm has more experience and they can make optimized GPU/CPU cores rather than just use stock ARM cores.

The reason the X20 is cooler is they were practical enough to use only 2 high performance cores. Having 2 clusters of A53s seems to give diminishing returns, that’s my whole point.

Also when using big.LITTLE its preferred to use clusters in equal sizes to simplify context switching, you also get increased latency the more clusters you have to switch through.

I think we will see Mediatek in the mid and low end devices, it will still be a while before they reach the top. Unless Qualcomm does another S810 lol.

  • Abdul Ghani

Calling x20 and x30 mid and low end my God what are u a cpu gpu expert seriously don’t u see qualcomm is coping mediatek by making just 2 a72 cores and 2 a53 originally made by mediatek on x20
Please stop praising qualcomm if they are so experience they would have made 810 really good

And FYI mediatek x20 has no low end core all are high 2 uses a72 and 8 uses a53 which is high end in this and next generation for mobile cpu and talking about gpu both x20 and x30 uses latest Mali 880 which is way faster than gaylaxy s6 using now

    Features of mediatek
1 super fast focus found on m5
    2 120hz display
    3 480fps on 1080p in video recording
    4 40 mp camera support
5 less heat with high top tier performance
    6 awesome battery life

Seriously your quote about mediatek using as low end and mid made me laugh so hard Dann ur so brainwashed by qualcomm

  • Abhinav Tella

OMG I said we will see them (Mediatek) in mid to low tier devices. You can have higher grade CPUs in mid tier….. and they will sell their lower end cpus well like the X10 thats what I meant, I no where said the X30 outright is bad or low end by itself. And no I am no CPU expert nor did I claim to be.

Why do you mention blazing performance and battery life of the X20/X30 they arent even out yet. Even Qualcomm says the same for devices in a test platform which does not represent an actual production unit.

The X10 is a 4×4 A53 based unit and as far as I know its the only one in a production device.

Why do you care so much about Qualcomm/Mediatek to the point of anger lol. I hate the S810 by the way, and made that clear many times, if anything you are proving to be more biased and falling for marketing.

And copying? They are all using ARM licensed cores and big.LITTLE architecture by ARM.

  • Abdul Ghani

Wow x10 lower side its a53 cores and lower side x10 is not 4+4 (like 810)its true 8core running at 2-2.5 ghz on many devices htc flagship m9+ mediatek not just that e9+ one me all have mediatek x10 sony almost flagship like m5 running x10 seriously how much qualcomm brainwashed u

    X10 IS A FLAGSHIP PROCESSOR

please instead of saying crap just read open mediatek website open what they showed read their features see how many features it has

I know x20 is due to come this year but who tested it with famous 810 and exyshit claims its faster and produces less heat

  • Abhinav Tella
  • Abdul Ghani

mediatek processor is budget friendly means its low and midrange right while the specs and features all are flagship hahahhs mentally of this generation judging by name “ohhh its mediatek taiwanese+Chinese company its crap”

  • Abhinav Tella

That was exactly my point (I still dont consider the X10 high end)…………..budget friendly as in higher specs in mid and low tiers for lower cost. I never meant the CPUs themselves were horrible. Mediatek is taking marketshare from Qualcomm in the mid and low tier because of that.

  • Abhinav Tella

I don’t think it has as much to do with that……. Lenovo who owns Motorola Mobility is Chinese, ASUS, HTC, D-Link and many many others are Taiwanese and people still buy their products. I have an Asus Laptop myself….

  • En.Pasta.Tack

    Haha, very funny!

  • Abdul Ghani

That point poor why a budget chip with same or better specifications and features inside a phone should be called low end and mid worse mentality in this world that what apple is doing first of all thier phone to built it cost only 240 dollars same like Samsung but the phone is 800 dollars and people like this weird mental illness buy it and htc made a flagship with e9+ with mediatek all of sudden people think meh its midrange

U have Asus laptop but if it had mediatek chip inside with same or better than Intel u would never bought it reason it has mediatek u would have found an Asus laptop with Intel inside

  • Abhinav Tella

Budget CPU does not always equal lower end, I agree but X20/X30 will be probably be relegated to phones that are or low priced flagships. If they can prove themselves with the X20/X30 next year and they have competitive integrated modems/WiFi integration which are as important for battery life as the CPU they may have a chance against Qualcomm. After all competition is good. Qualcomms biggest advantage right now is the ability significantly customer their cores which they ironically did not for the S810. I think Mediatek will get there, everything takes time.

Apple has great marketing and “looks” on which they built a brand so people will buy even if they sold a pet rock for $500. Still the iPhone 6 which my mother has is pretty great but I would never pay that much for it myself lol. My Z3 has a much longer battery life, stereo speakers and other conveniences.

If there was better CPU in a laptop despite the brand I would still take it….

I bought AMD Athlons when Intel was selling expensive P4s with high Ghz and low performance in the mid 2000s.

  • Joshua Phillis

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

  • Snorky112

    its an iphone 5

  • Jeffrey Tai

Hmmm…looks like a generic phone now. They should go back to making phones with unique designs, like the Walkman phone series!

yeah really! I like omni balance!

  • vigneshprince

it may be the fingerprint sensor! looks great only!

  • vigneshprince

yeah! Me too! addicted to Sony I think! it always delivers the Quality!

  • vigneshprince

hopefully Z5 compact will be good i guess!

  • vigneshprince

its difficult to reduce the bezel! sony will think in all possible views and i like to have atleast some bezels to hold the phone!

  • vigneshprince

design looks great only! wait for the final one!
