Xperia Z5 Compact spotted in promo image

by XB on 20th August 2015

in Rumours, Xperia Z5 series

xperia-z5-compactSony Mobile is set to announce at least the next Xperia flagship and ‘Compact’ flagship at IFA in early September 2015. A supposed promotional image for the Xperia Z5 Compact has leaked showing the rear of the device. The lens and LED flash placement match what we have seen, so we believe the image is authentic. The white frame around the white version of the handset also matches. As seen in earlier leaks, the volume placement is much lower on the phone and that can also be seen in the leaked promo pic. Not long to wait for the full reveal.

Thanks Zomer!

  • Tjaldid

This has to be a high end fingerprint scanner , the scanner on the OnePlus 2 for example has trouble reading fingerprints that are at an angle

  • I think that position is good for the volume controls. Thus it becomes easier to use a QX lense or even a selfie stick

  • Kristo

I’m gonna miss the iconic power button :/

  • Hassandroid

This looks too big for a compact phone.

  • theskig

Young cute models sometimes are luckier than good old Sony’s fanboy nerds.

  • TweoBeo

Those are lady hands, i’m the one that published the image and I’m 100% sure this is the Xperia Z5 Compact.

  • Hamada D

Noooo fuck glass we want metal -_-

  • azzido

If this is gonna be the LED light again, at least I hope its power will be much better as I am using it as a flashlight.

Apple for example uses much stronger ones.

Sony please give us S-Master and MEGA Bass!

  • Off topic

Sony will offering 2 months of Spotify premium fot 2015 Xperia devices

    Is in PT-BR

  • azzido

Sony needs to remember about an advertisnment as well if they want to sell it.
    TV and huge billboards expected.

Hope Sony still remember what happened when original Z was supported with it.
    Fingers crossed ;)

  • Shehab Skull

it looks like a 5″ inch phone :D the best size for me :)

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

Yeah I only noticed the z and z1 got advertisments here in the uk

  • DBS

    No we don’t.

  • Raj Singh

I like the black glass on the back.

  • azzido

Does Sony has any hidden “wow” features in upcoming Z series?

  • azzido

Would you like to get such a Z5 as below? (it is old rumor about Z4):

  • azzido
  • Nayib

Yeah, they should hire us, real fans xP

  • el_sur

so then I guess those with lady hands will have a hard time holding the z5c? It does look rather big.

  • DanielGearSolid

All i want is that chrome color… Where is it?!?

I’ts a shame Sony let Samsung go chrome first

  • TweoBeo

Well, for example if the Xperia Z5 is 6-inch and the Z5 Compact will be 5-inch, it still actually is a compact version of the Z5. ;-) When I hold my iPhone 6 like the same way the girl is holding it, I have more space left, so it isn’t that big.

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

The original Z power button is the best of all.

  • mawhob22222

This is M5 not Z5 compact

  • Svnjay

Look at the flash placement, it’s the compact. The lady may also have small hands.

  • Svnjay

    Should’ve bought the Xperia P.

  • king-james

I agree this to 100%! Had almost all Xperia models and the first Z has the most comfortable power button! I think the biggest powerbutton of all and very nice soft feeling.

  • king-james

Sony is behind all brands in LED area. Sony use the weakest LEDs ever! The cheapest of all, unfortunately…

  • TweoBeo

    Are you blind?

  • king-james

No, it’s not the M5. The M5s power- and volumebuttons has very large space between. This ones are very close together.

  • el_sur

A previous leak compared the z5 and z5c against the iPhone 5s. Z5c was same size as the iPhone. Are you suggesting that was a fake pic?

  • Prateek Bhanushali

What about IPS-neo displays For upcoming Xperias ?? It will be a serious threat to the amoleds What say!!!

  • kido

what about dual flash? :( If it wont have dual flash then at least make the led flash brighter

  • akzidenz

Then go buy something else? Put a case on it then?

  • akzidenz

Fingerprint scanner and a better sensor apparently, and a rumoured ultra 6 inch model

  • mawhob22222

But no G Lens on this phone?!

  • mawhob22222

  • Svnjay

    Actually, the brightest of all.

  • TweoBeo

Definetly not fake, but this is the real deal as well.

  • KMNH

    so… no lmao

  • TweoBeo

Its a G-lens, the logo is below the camera, I will show you tomorrow.

  • stolnheartdealr

if the camera has the same lens as the z3c then i’m not buying, camera on the z3c is absolute shit because of the lens they put in front of that detector imo

  • I_can_wait_4ever

Girls hands for scale??? Imma wait

  • ZXcorr

Sony better bring better cameras (back AND front) this time. If not, I think I’m ready to jump ship to the other side.

  • Chi Wai Shum

By now they will told you 5″ LCD is small…

  • Riley Biers

lmfao @ compact now meaning 5 inches

what lets the flash performance down is software actually, The LED lamp is actually very good. Let’s say a flash test in indoors with superior auto on Z3 vs iphone 6.

Non flash, Z3 use ISO 800 and 1/32s shutter speed. iphone 6 use ISO 250 and 1/15s shuttet speed.

With flash, Z3 only drops the ISO to 500 while maintaining the same shutter speed, which leads to blown overexposed object. iphone drops the ISO to 125 and the same 1/15s shutter speed, making the object very detailed and good looking

  • Billy de Fretes

so it’s time to replace my old Xperia Z? wait, where’s the power button like my old z?
did they change it to accommodate finger print sensor ?
hope it still there because it’s like “personal image” for all xperia brand, even from far, i can recognize xperia phone because it power button

  • Nawi

    Mmm.. it’s not possible

yeah actually i think g lens has some problem they should try one device with carl zeiss lens

  • Dakota

    Or the Xperia Ion

  • Alvin

It doesn’t look fake at all to me.

  • Alvin

Yeah back then z, z1, and z2 have like millions of viewers on their youtube videos in just a week or so, but now, since z3, their viewers just reduced significantly, and now you look at the promo video of z3+ or m5, my old xperia L have even more viewers on youtube than those

  • Raj Singh

The marketing is one very important thing to do. The other thing just as important is availability.
If someone drives by a billboard on the way home and sees an Xperia advert, it won’t matter because that person won’t be able to find or buy it in a store.

  • Alex

    Looks like another Copy Paste

  • Tom W

    looks like the Z3 Compact!

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

Since when xperia belong to LG ?? Lol… Looking foward to see what z5 had to offer. If it good i might jumping back using xperia. Abandon my z3 and go for iphone6 makes me regret a few things I had before .

  • Same old design, glass back, 810, no usb-c, overheating malwaredroid. Sony is on the way out in both mobile and TVs. Wait and see them go on the chopping/auction block by the end of 2016.

  • Alvin

That looks small enough to be called compact. I don’t know what else people thought here and out there

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z5 Compact leaks in promotional shot()

  • Hamada D

    Glass was very good
But i think Sony must change the materials in the new flagship
    + change the old design

  • blurb8

Hoped for a “new” design….but I’ll take it!

  • echomrg

a lady with really small hands!
assuming the lens assembly is roughly the same size of the one on the Z3C (no real reason to have it much bigger) the phone in the pictures is about 132.5 x 65.8mm.
    the Z3C is 127.3 x 64.9.

  • Nander

those ads are based on your own searches, don’t buy an LG phone :P

  • jumbo3220

ads appear on sites according to your web browsing history/searches… :P you have searched about LG products/phones recently

  • I liked the Xperia T power button, but I’m so used to my Xperia Z3’s power button now I don’t miss the T’s at all.

  • theskig

    But not for pictures! :)

  • marcyff2

i am guessing is 4.5 or 4.7 inches. the size looks smaller than z2 but not by much,

  • marcyff2

not really i was in a dark room with 2 mates, and the s6 led was very bright in comparison to the z2. the m8s led blew both phones totally out of the water. it was like a lamp had been turned on in that room

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z5 Compact: Foto soll die langweilige Rückseite zeigen()

  • My Huawei P7 and Xperia neo are both significantly brighter than the Z3c. The entire camera thing of the latest Sony phones is a joke.

  • iia3ezu

    810 or 820?

  • kido

yeah i agree, the z series have such weak LED flashes its a shame really….:(

  • Prateek Bhanushali

LOL… Did you seriously searched for LG phone :D

  • marcyff2

sony should reinvest on the Arc style. Just picture that phone without the bottom buttons. Could put the M7 or the M9 to shame.

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

Lol… To be honest i never search LG product using web browsing. Unless google detect my search using youtube … ;-)

  • LeVvE

Some might miss it but it’s the change that made me interested in the phone.

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

not even one LG device I had used before and until now i keep it that way… Maybe Google trying to persuede me I assume… LOL….

  • Sadman Khan

If the m5 has the new camera then surely their flagships will too?

  • Alvin

I miss the iconic or fancy camera shutter animation that was gone since lollipop.

  • Sadman Khan

    Sadly yet probably 810

  • Great Dude

The flash is on the right side like the M5.However, The volume buttons of the M5 aren’t that low and there is an apparent power button in there.

  • Ben Leung

G logo is below the camera

  • echomrg

i think he was referring to the flash-led, not to the display.

  • Svnjay

Lol, then I guess he’s right.

  • mountain

Thats what they did to Xperia T and V, but really not up to it.

  • mountain

Yup, Z2 was very dim, and they have increased the brightness by a lot in Z3

  • Naail Zahid

Still doesn’t change the fact that sony has the WORST LED flash of all phones. Even chinese manufacturers are using Dual tone led flash in most of their handsets.

  • Naail Zahid

I miss sony Xperia phones actually having a great camera. I used my Z3 dual’s camera today and compared it to my friend’s HTC one m9 camera (usually called the worst in the world) and yet somehow his images have more details and don’t look like “smudgy art”.

Queue Xperiablog’s camera “experts” coming in to attack my comment and defending sony’s horrible software lol.

  • Faisal Armand

Yes sony truly has one of the worst led flash performance of all smartphones. But the difference between illiterate kindegarten age child and mature adult is mature adult explores WHY something performs poorly or excellently, and a child is just naively believe something without finding out why.

  • stolnheartdealr

the z3c is particularly bad, the z3 doesn’t seem to have the same flare and light sensitivity issues the z3c has, also other phones using the same sensor (mx5?) don’t have the same issues, my point being, if the lens is shit it doesn’t matter if there’s a full frame detector behind it, your image is going to look like shit, I’ve had 2 z3c’s and both have this issue. So maybe it has the same detector as the m5 but we have yet to see an independent review and samples of real world image quality and even after that we have no assurance the lens will be the same on the z5c if the m5 quality is good. I’m definitely going to watch reviews before I buy and if I do I will put the camera through its paces before my return period is up.

  • stolnheartdealr

I don’t know if I’ve ever actually used 100% screen brightness on my z3c, I love the manual/auto adjust screen brightness feature, if you set it at 50% say the ‘auto’ brightness will adjust for example +/- 10% from your manual setting, at least I think this is the case, as I never experience large jumps in brightness however if I pay attention to specific parts of the GUI I can see the ‘magic’ happening.

  • Svnjay

The Z3c doesn’t have the same display as the Z3 and Z3+. It’s not as bright.

  • stolnheartdealr

well it’s plenty bright enough for me

  • Svnjay

It bright enough on it’s own :)

    Illiterate kindergarten age child…?
Boy, you are slowly turning into a bigger troll than Timel. Clearly you have some sort of intellectual superiority complex if you go around calling others children, when you are no professional nor an expert of camera technology, and can’t seem to digest any criticism against your favourite brand.
You can go ahead and insult myself, and others, on this blog if it gets you off (lol) because this is in fact a blog where people express their opinions, but it won’t change the fact that Xperia phones have the worst LED flashes of all manufacturers. Many reviewers (note: paid professionals) have also mentioned that the LED flashes in Xperia phones are a tad soft or not strong enough – But hey, you’re a “mature adult” – you must know better than all, including the many Xperia customers that complain about the camera quality each passing day.

    Keep it up “pro”! :D

  • Micheal Archer

I’m thinking that users will have to decide the most comfortable way to unlock their phone using their thumb (for righties) or index finger (for lefties) and then always use that method. With the new power button being flush (or slightly recessed), it will be easier to be consistent as well. With the current power button, I use one grip to unlock the phone, but another if I’m trying to reset or power on/off. If it were flush with a different surface area, I would always use the same grip.

  • Faisal Armand

And may I ask you where did I mention that Xperia phones has good flash performance?

  • Naail Zahid

For someone who insinuates he is a mature adult while others are not, you clearly should be able to read my comment, and see there isn’t a single line where I have stated outright that you are calling the Led flash superior or better.

  • Abdul Ghani

“what lets the flash performance down is software. The LED lamp is actually very good” ur words first comment denial boy

  • Abdul Ghani

why are u hurting his feelings he will deny everything because his papa told him that he is a expert in mobile camera

  • Faisal Armand

” it won’t change the fact that Xperia phones have the worst LED flashes of all manufacturers. ”
“Still doesn’t change the fact that sony has the WORST LED flash of all phones.”

Forgive me, really. But both of your repeatant statements still sounds like disagreeing with mine after I downright say “Yes sony truly has one of the worst led flash performance of all smartphones”

  • Alessandro Berti

The new Phone will be 68 mm and include a 4.8 HD screen

  • Faisal Armand

And I will call you an open minded person who wants to listen to the opinions of others :D

  • Naail Zahid

And yet, neither outright say you are calling them the best…even though you did claim they are good.
And was there a point to your question?
Does it somehow make it ok for you to insult anyone on this blog, and myself in particular?
Did I somehow insult you personally when I said SONY XPERIA LEDs are the worst?

  • Faisal Armand

What I was trying to say is.. Led lamp is good but the software in superior auto whacks the performance. And I dare to say that no one wants to tweak the ISO while shooting with flash and hence conclusion that xperia is one of the worst flash performer in mobile camera.

Also I want to ask, when did I proclaim myself that I am a professional photographer? Proof please

  • Abdul Ghani

see here is the thing u are not a pro and never will be u just act on this blog like u know camera

  • Faisal Armand

Lol never will be, alright then :D

  • Abdul Ghani

u sound like a noob when u are asking sony raw full manual mode control on a mobile while me including and the world wants a good processing software with good auto mode to take instant pictures within seconds and not miss the moment and if anyone wants to take a pro shot they buy a professional grade camera……so yeah i wasent joking when i said ull never be a pro

  • Alvin

    I knew right lol :D

I use manual to take less/no smudgy art photos though.

Oh, so you wish to cancel your own wishlist to sony for raw and full manual controls too? Gosh, you should have told me earlier

  • Timel

It’s clear that the problem about cameras of Xperia phones is not only the software but also hardware… Sony will never win in mobile industry if they wont improve the camera quality of their phones.

  • DBS

If you want metal with an SD810…buy a frying pan. It’s the same thing ;P

I have owned my Sony Xperia Z3 for around 8 months and I would say it is the best phone I have ever owned. Having had some 30 odd mobiles over the years it is the most intuitive and best designed phone to date. Thank you Sony…. I look forward to the next iteration…. Z5.

  • Raj Singh

I liked it on the Z Ultra too. I thought that one was one of the best. The one on the Z3 without the ring isn’t bad either.

  • iia3ezu

I prefer big phones with more screen. Once you go big, you don’t go back.

It’s the bezels that make a big phone ‘too big’. Bezels can be slimmed down.

Sony, no. Please, just start thinking rational and release one flagship a year. I follow every single Xperia since the X10 (Sony as a whole even since I was 8), but I just gave up after the Z3. My next phone will without a doubt be a Sony, because I LOVE my Z2 and Sony, but even I lost track at which Z we are. Just think about how the average consumers must feel. Just release your flagship in February/March and the Compact and Ultra (more reasonably sized Ultra that is) in September/October.

My friend has a iPhone 5, which he got in 2012, and now in 2015 the 6S is coming out while I’ve got the Z2 that I got last year and the Z5 is already coming out.

My phone feels like it’s from the future (except for the lack of fingerprintscanner), but when I think about the name Z2, it sounds like it’s the kind of phone I got it “when I was younger”.

Just remember to do a LOT of marketing for this product, Sony. I beg you.

Maybe it would be a smart move to change the flagship name and begin with a fresh start. Xperia Z sounds beautiful and amazing, but you kinda ruined it and made it confusing by releasing so many products. Also a design update with aluminium or something.

My Xperia Z2 will always have a special place in my heart.
