Sony Mobile has carefully finessed the Xperia Z series range through each iteration of the handset. That much can be seen when looking at the side profiles of the main Xperia Z flagship family as seen below.
The original Xperia Z had a flat edge, but you can see with the Xperia Z1 and Z2 that Sony was moving to a curved edge before moving to a fully curved side with the Xperia Z3 onwards. Then there is the size and placement of the volume buttons that with the Xperia Z5 has moved to its lowest position to accommodate the fingerprint sensor.
Corner caps for shock protection were introduced with the Xperia Z3 (matte for the Z3 and shiny caps with the Z4/Z3+). The signature power button has almost been the main design constant through all Xperia Z iterations. Even though the button doesn’t explicitly exist with the Xperia Z5, the icon is still used on the fingerprint sensor power button.
It’s great seeing these Xperia Z handsets side-by-side and we’re intrigued where Sony will go next.
