All of the Sony Xperia Z5 information leaked earlier today came from a French hands-on video (presumably to go live next Wednesday on the announcement of the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium). That video is now available for you to watch.
In addition to what we have already seen, it shows off the Chrome-coloured Xperia Z3 Premium and the software interface, including the camera where the 23MP output is once again confirmed. The video is low resolution, but that doesn’t detract from what’s on show here. We don’t speak French, so if anyone can help dissect the salient points from the 2 minute 50 second video, please feel free to help translate in the comments below.
Update: Thanks to some of our French-speaking readers in the comments section, we can confirm some of the key points in the video. The video overview of the new Sony Xperia Z5 range is given by Olivier Terme, Sony Mobile France Marketing Director and a journalist from Clubic.com. Terme confirms the launch of three handsets: the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and the Xperia Z5 Premium.
The new design will have an ‘XPERIA’ logo on the side of the aluminium frame (it’s not clear if this will only be on the Xperia Z5 Premium or all of the Z5 family). These will be the first Sony Xperia models to feature a fingerprint sensor.
The rear camera will have a 23MP image sensor capable of 5x Clear Image Zoom (the latter was also seen in the Xperia M5). It will have the fastest autofocus in the market at 30 milliseconds (the Xperia M5 auto-focus was 250 milliseconds). Sony has optimised the software to provide better pictures. The Superior Auto mode will now let you select the resolution of your pictures to 8MP (16:9), 20MP (16:9) or 23MP (4:3).
The phones will feature capless microUSB ports and will be water and dust resistant (IP68 certification is likely). Two-day battery life will be feature of all three Xperia Z5 models, which is somewhat surprising when referring to the Xperia Z5 Premium, especially given its 4k resolution 5.5-display.
