Sony News Suite_1Sony has redesigned the Socialife news app from the ground up and rebranded the service as “News Suite”. The app includes two main tabs: 1) “News” where you can find the latest current affairs in a genre-based interface and 2) “My Feeds” where you can read news relevant to your own interests. The app can be downloaded through the Google Play Store or the APK can be downloaded through the link below.

Anyone notice the different battery icon in the screenshots?

  • Eileen the Crow

that’s the older version of the icon. My z used to have that one

  • Rammstone

Wut. My Z never had that icon

  • Eileen the Crow

    zUltra and z1, sorry. http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/reviews/140269-image/Sony-Xperia-Z1-Review-006.jpg
It is not the SAME but it is similiar..

  • WilliamTell13

Yeah, the icon in the screenshots seems closer to stock Android.

  • Rodrigo

Sony should back the older name of Music App (Walkman)…

  • haxona

There is also a beta channel for the app, sign up for it if you want to :)

  • Johan

    Does anyone actually use this?

  • haxona

I do for some RSS feeds and news. I used to use Pulse before they totally fucked it over when LinkedIn bought the company

  • Arian Hajiakbar

    That’s marshmallow concept battery design

  • Fadi Obaya

    link? :)

  • penubag

I use it all the time. I don’t like this UI change because I have a lot of feeds that i cannot just glance over now, I have to swipe through every single one

  • iia3ezu

What a rubbish app. Keep polishing a turd, Sony Mobile Communications of Lund, Sweden.

If you want a news aggregator app, get Feedly.

  • iia3ezu

Walkman is dead. Move on already.

  • Timel

only Sony fans… Actually some Sony fans

  • Timel

It’s nonsense, using Walkman is portable music player, using Walkman name in Xperia phone but without high quality audio chip, it sounds like you love lying yourself

  • Timel

It proves that Sony has no idea to make their own UI style anymore, the Stock Android is ugly. Xperia UI gone ugly…

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

Finally the app looks neat. Has been my daily news aggregator since z1 days.

  • M?rcis Buhholcs

Good thing – after this update this app becames removable. In some previous Sony Android builds this app was system one and unremovable unless you root the phone.

  • Tomislav Mati?

Now this app is usable. I don’t need any other news app.because there is now local news. Before I have to add my feeds but there wasn’t too many local news feeds.

  • fried_egg

I love this bit of software…. it isnt as good as a pc “aol reader” (which i have used since googles reader was shut down) but it is getting there… and the latest version is very good looking… but i am sure it wont be long until the sony connection is removed and these guys are standalone in every way

  • jxPerience

is this a hint of the upcoming revamped xperia design????

  • haxona
  • Mohamed adel ali

i hope they add option to uninstall this app it’s useless for me

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

    glad I’m still using 4.3

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

timescape death, socialife death, now news suite

  • psyche

So what we now have is a rss reader where you can’t specify your own feeds. No Facebook or Twitter integration and no way to login in to your old feeds (if anyone really used this). Why was this launched early? I’m amazed Sorny is still working on this app at all. “Bussines”. Also, it’s 2016. How is it an app doesn’t know where I am! (weather)

  • Sergio

No. Seems like any regular ‘generic phone’. Remember that this app, even tho is included in all sony phones, it’s in Play Store so that anyone, independently of the phone they own, can download it. That’s why they probably chose a generic device.

  • jxPerience

But the navigation menu icons are the same as what we have now on all xperia devices.

  • Arturo Pastrana

You can specify your own feeds… I have my own!

  • Arturo Pastrana

I use this too! before sleep I take a little time to spend reading news and my feeds, I dont need any 3rd app, this works as it should and its integrated already, so why not? works good BTW

  • As a former Z3 (now LG V10) user, I started using it recently, it’s one of my main go-to apps for news with keywords. This, Google News & Weather and PlayNewsStand.
