Xperia X Performance is now out; Taiwan gets first dibs; see first unboxing pics

by XB on 15th June 2016

in Hands On, Xperia X series

Xperia X Performance Unboxing_1The Sony Xperia X Performance is now in stock in Taiwan and expected to see further availability across other South East Asia regions shortly, including Hong Kong and Thailand. You can check out the first unboxing pictures of the Xperia X Performance below, which follows the same colourful packaging as seen with the Xperia X.

The design of the Xperia X Performance looks very similar to the Xperia X, but includes a brushed hairline metal finish on the black and white models. The dual SIM version (F8132) is being sold in Taiwan, which supports 4G + 3G dual standby. The pictures also highlight that the NFC contact point is on the top-front of the handset (same as the Xperia X) which compares to the back of the handset for most previous Xperia models.

We expect to see the single SIM model to be available from next month across a number of European regions (Netherlands, UK, France, Nordics, Italy, Greece, Switzerland), parts of Latin America, Canada and the United States.

  • LiterofCola

So.. will this model work on US GSM networks?

  • raju

    4k support?

  • Alexander

seriously, what a fucking headset bundled with such a great phone..

  • Alvin

An expensive phone with cheap accessories out of the box and no offers that come with one of the entire series, like free contents or something like that, although I knew those are country-specific.

  • KarFar

atleast there’s one, in europe they get nothing.

  • RockStar2005

    Hey Liter,

Yes it will. Check here (http://willmyphonework.net/) to confirm its compatibility with your specific carrier. But as long as it’s GSM, you’re good.

I was able to order mine (dual-sim) from a seller on Amazon who ships within the US too (from Seattle). Seller is NGP and has a 100% rating. Seller swears to me that since I ordered it on Sunday I will get it by Friday. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FMABWWM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Note that the ASIN # and pics are for the X, not X Perf, but seller claims they’re working on getting that fixed and that the phone is most def the XP.) I also ordered this sweet clear case as well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DCVGI90/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are other sellers on there and eBay, but they apparently won’t be shipping out for another week or so (or they don’t have a 100% rating). The dual-sim costs a bit more than the single-sim, but the way I see it 1) I can sell it for more since it’s a dual-sim and 2) The trend seems to be that more and more ppl want dual-sim phones 3) dual-sim phones offer DOUBLE the internal storage or regular single-sim phones, and the demand for extra storage seems to be growing with Hi-Res music, 4K video, etc.

  • Don Bart

HTC 10 does fatality kill on this mediocricity

  • azzido

seems they excluded headphones again buhahahhaa!!

  • mugglearchitect

I recently bought a z5, and I got the same earphones. Shame. It’s not even symmetrical! (These are the ones you put the wire at the back of your neck)

  • crazychef83

Or you could wait a bit and purchase it directly here in the us.

  • crazychef83

Well lets hope that this phones does not suffer from faulty headphone jack like the Xperia Z5 premium does. I have already had to change 2 of them. and since I bout in Europe the US the warranty does not work here because they do not have the parts. they say.

  • RockStar2005

    crazy,

Yeah but the U.S. X Performance is NOT (officially) water/dust-resistant, and does NOT have a fingerprint sensor either (it has the hardware, but the software is excluded). Int’l all the way! And you can get awesome phone insurance for it from these guys (best deal, trust me, even better than Square Trade): http://www.worthavegroup.com/product/cell-phone-insurance/#product_tabs_compare They cover unlocked phone, so that’s who I’m using when mine comes in.

  • DarkMaster

will you get headset ant what what kind it will be it depends on retailer . buy directly from Sony and you will get MH EX300 or MH750 .

as you can see XperiaFan got MH750 with the Xperia X

    https://youtu.be/04S7PGPGyOo

  • Ye Olde Vadge

Wow! I can’t wait to not buy this.

  • DarkMaster

you sure ? in Netherlands those who did preorder Xperia X they130 euros worth headset , there was article about that here on XB .

  • Hassan Ch

awesome phone packed with cheapest accessories
Come on Sony, I am huge fan of your but there is a limit.
you should have make decisions with some sense

  • Raj Singh

This phone is not on par with its competitors. It’s like they’re not even trying.

  • Raj Singh

Why the fuck does Sony Mobile keep moving the placement of the speakers back and forth from the top/bottom of the display to the center? Make up your fucking mind and stick to it. They’re all over the place. It’s so annoying.

  • LiterofCola

without a fingerprint sensor… no thanks, I’ll shop internationally

  • Rieve Sn

the second sim slot is hybrid with sd card slot :(
not dedicated slot like previous xperia models

  • Emil Oskarsson

Wohoooo my next phone might come in time after all then. 1st of July it might finally be mine. And all for a price of 520 euros :D

  • Emil Oskarsson

Have you seen the software of the phones? It’s like the ultimate Android experience. Keep in mind that the Xperia x for example is just a mid range device. And it still beats Galaxy s7 on some points…. That’s not a bad move from Sony that’s an amazing move.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah still wish they could stick with the placement they had on the z2 and z3+. Also that notification light was awesome placed on the z2 why didn’t they stick to that? :(

  • Emil Oskarsson

I got a free Sony actioncam mini XD And already got the as 100v and 200 XD

  • RockStar2005

    Smart thinking Liter. lol

  • Timel

Overall S7 still faster than X anyway

S7 has a better camera also

  • Timel

    – Same old design
    – Huge bezels
    – Lack of innovations
    – No high quality DAC or sound card build in
    – the camera is better but it’s just a little improvement still not good enough to beat iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7 in overall performance, X camera still have problem with details, low lights shot and especially the dynamic range

  • Timel

    – Same old design
    – bulky bezels
    – Lack of innovations
    – No high quality DAC or sound card build in
    – the camera is much better than Z5 but it’s just a little improvement still not good enough to beat iPhone 6 and Galaxy S7 in overall performance, X camera still have some serious problems like bad detail, produce noise in low lights shots and especially the dynamic range , sony’s bad at it very much
    – 3GB of ram? , Hello Sony! specs this year is 6GB dont you know that Sony?

These why most people will say NO to X and looking forward to Note 7 and iPhone 7 instead this year

  • ludimilojko

Dude, are you serious? 6 GB RAM? My ZR is eating for breakfast everything i throw at it, with 2 GB. For what do you need 6 GB? For FB, or WhatsApp? Maybe Viber? Longing (and paying) for 6 GB without any need is not very smart.

  • crazychef83

You are correct. I did not think about those small details. and water proofing is important for me because i do have a 5yr old.

  • Ayad Fahos

    Fuk you too hhhhhhhh

  • SONY only

    I love Sony …

But this phone looks like shit

  • Raj Singh

The software is not the problem. Sony’s version of Android is pretty cool. I think it’s classy and adds functionality in a way that’s not obtrusive to the overall experience.

The hardware is not competitive. It looks awesome but the internals can’t keep up with the competition, which is a shame.

Their biggest problem is that they don’t know how to market the phone. The have almost zero control of the narrative as it relates to the Xperia brand. They’re all over the place and the public has no idea why they should buy a Sony phone. They don’t even market PS4 Remote Play this time around, let alone all of the other value-added features.

The perfect phone from Sony Mobile would be the Z5 Premium with the ?820, ?32GB internal storage and ?4GB RAM. They fucked up their portfolio — the X series can’t keep up with the competition.

  • mike

sim tray is very ugly. just copy apple’s, is that hard?

  • Matt

android N developer preview 4 is out for xperia z3

  • RockStar2005

Thanks. Yeah………..I don’t bring my phone in the shower but I sometimes keep it in the bathroom like if I’m expecting an important call. Sometimes they do call while I’m in there, so I have to jump out all wet……….with Z3 and now my S7 I can do that, but not with US XP or the HTC 10 I just had then returned. lol Can’t wait to get rid of my S7 too. Nice but overrated phone. Sony forever! lol

  • LiterofCola

This phone has the latest Snapdragon 820 processor, new adaptive charging tech for the battery, waterproofing, 64gb of on-board storage (for this Dual version) plus SD card expansion, improved camera (which admittedly isn’t the best) in a fresh all metal back. How is this not on par with other flagships?

  • Timel

Whatever Note 7 is coming out with 6GB of RAM and after than every android smartphones will catch the trend if Sony cant go ahead competitors , at least sony need do follow , if Sony still stuck with 3GB of RAM no one will buy sony flagship phones

  • Timel

    Z5 camera is fucking horrible , Z5 ruined Sony-image

  • Timel

    Take this
    https://youtu.be/oSiQNyKXWTs

Xperia X camera cant beat Galaxy S7 in video recording , shame on Sony!

  • Chan Kin Cheung

Yeah that’s right. People care about NUMBER, not NEED. People want BIGGER IS BETTER, without concerning “is it really needed?”

  • jamie evans

I hope there will be a PROPER flagship released in H2. X Performance is mediocre

  • Biancoceleste

    Precisely.
Compare any older Xperia Z phone to the Samsung counterpart of that year and it runs rings around the galaxy phone because Sony’s software is much better optimised and contains less crap and gimmicks.

My Z2 running marshmallow next to a galaxy S5 doing the same is night and day and both have almost identical silicone.
After a couple of months galaxy phones slow to a crawl because of touchwiz.

  • Biancoceleste

The Xperia X with lesser hardware is already running rings around supposed flagships at top spec. What use is all that processing power and memory if the phone runs terribly? Just to have a spec sheet dick measuring contest?

  • Raj Singh

I like all those things you mention but it should have more RAM and a better display. They should also sort out the camera and heat issues.

  • Emil Oskarsson

With their perfect software you don’t need and extra gigabyte of ram. And their is no camera overheating issues on the x series :p

  • xAntifreeZe

one plus 3 is equipped with 6GB of ram right? so technically Samsung is playing catch up too, just saying

  • ryq24

If this phone have a 5.5″ screen then maybe the price is justified.

  • Vinny Conforto

I will be waiting for XA, the most interesting one amoong Xs

  • Vinny Conforto

    AGREED

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

The X display is already a huge improvement over the previous Z5.. Quantum dot with colours as saturated as the S7 but still looking natural.. What more do you want?
6 gig or 4 gigs is nice.. But would you really use all that other than for a mere dick measuring?? I don’t even use all the 2gig on my old Z and ram is still plenty.. 500 Mb with plenty of apps open for quite navigation. .And don’t forget it still manages to keep apps in the background.. The X 3 gig can keep up with the s7 or HTC 10 4 gigs in terms of multitasking too..

  • DarkMaster

Sony does not copy thers , and even if they do everything is better than apple trash .

  • Vinny Conforto

    Can we buy XA now?

  • En.Pasta.Tack
  • Luis E Henriquez

You can’t use the two sim cards along with SD card like the Z5?

  • RockStar2005
  • Raj Singh

You don’t need it but it would be nice to have for future proofing. They should also have kept the 4K display and leveraged their PlayStation properties. Their camera should also be the best in the business but it’s not.

  • Leilanicgreene4
  • Chan Kin Cheung

then the battery will most likely die before you noticed it, just saying…..with its “I feel sorry for you” type battery life (only 2700mAh)

  • Chan Kin Cheung

where did you get such information?

  • EQ

    He dun goofed!

  • Timel

    The first is Vivo actually

  • Timel

    Cant help
Sony is in android world , sony is not apple

If Sony dont try to catch up other android makers that means LOSE

  • Raj Singh

I don’t think many people will want to pay what Sony is asking when other manufacturers have stronger internals and are selling at a fraction of the cost.

  • deekbee

Look at the picture – there are two slots.

    One takes the SIM card.

The other takes either the second SIM card *or* a MicroSD. Not both together.

  • Chan Kin Cheung

oh I see. I hope xperiablog can come forward to explain it

  • Emil Oskarsson

The only thing that they are “behind” on in terms of hardware in the x performance is the lack of 1 GB of ram compared to HTC 10, LG g5 and Galaxy s7. Samsung and HTC stuck with 2GB of ram in 2014 when Sony had 3 gb of ram in their flagship back then. Still 3 GB of ram is just fine for me atleast :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

The display of the Xperia x performance is one of the best lcd screens out there. Beating the HTC 10 and LG g5 atleast ;)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Exactly, I have the Xperia z aswell and the 2 GB of ram is enough on it :p And 3GB of ram will be just fine on my x performance :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

    4k on a 5 inch display when even 2k is overkill? Yeah sure…. I stick with 1080p :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah exactly my thought aswell… People need to see real life performance not just numbers on a paper…

  • ludimilojko

How many units are sold this year with 6GB? How many units are sold this year with 2 or 3 GB? How many of them will be sold next year?
Even Samsung will sell more units with 3 GB than Notes with 6 GB. What are we talking about?

  • Chan Kin Cheung

no idea what YOU talked about….please re-phrase and re-comment. (Hint, maybe put your thesis statement at the first, so that we understand?)

  • hansip

New Music App is up, and Gracenote is back! version 9.1.11.A.0.2

  • ludimilojko

Think about it. I’ll give you 6 hours. If that’s not enough, think about your thinking.

  • Battel

Mid-range Chinese phones now has more features & capacity and better price then this device,
    Sony’s a turtle in rabbits race !

  • Battel

In other hand, Xiaomi and Lenovo beats Xperia X with their mid rangers, with Features & Price

A blind doing makeup to crazy! that’s what you’re trying to do to Sonymobile .

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah but Chinese phone makers can usually slash down the prices more than Sony, HTC, LG, Samsung etc can :p

  • Keyvan Ghanbary

I’m a Sony fan and This is a bad move and I’m sure Sony will exit Smartphone business very soon.

I’m tired waiting for my Z Ultra Replacement :(

  • Dominic81

I still can’t believe they replaced the Xperia Z5 with “that”… :( That’s a serious downgrade, except for the SoC, compared to the Z5!

Sony Mobile better come up with a true flagship phone in October if they want continue existing

  • mrhangover Rox

    retard earphone… omg… better z5 or z3+

  • Battel

    What’s the differences ?
all of them made in china with almost same materials !

  • kaostheory

The reason I’ve stuck with Sony over the years, is not because they’re the best on any one spec, but because overall they have more features than any other manufacturers and are near the top in comparison.

  • KzX

You can flash International firmware with Flashtool. Then fingerprint sensor will work.

  • RockStar2005

Yeah I’ve heard that before, but it’s extra work. lol And still, no water-resistance or dustproofing. At least not officially. lol But I’d rather not take that chance. lol

And don’t you have to unlock the bootloader and/or root the phone to use Flashtool? Unlocking bootloader will PERMANENTLY F up the camera. Rooting not sure if it causes damage, but don’t you have to unlock the bootloader to root?

  • Luis Eduardo Henríquez Canelón

The fact that I cant use both sims plus sd card is a total turnoff.

  • Timel

X is bad when it comes to camera

    Sony never learn

    https://youtu.be/UaLl8grFhtw

Even video recording, Samsung can do much better than Sony, what a shame

    https://youtu.be/oSiQNyKXWTs

  • Raj Singh

I agree; it’s overkill but that doesn’t matter. They’ve already spent the money and developed the technology. That would put them in the lead, where they should aspire to be, not in the middle.

  • Timel

    Real life performance ?
    Of course

    https://youtu.be/PnXKJWnTmYI

  • Timel

More Ram means great for multitasking

  • Timel

Oh c’mon Please you need to face the fact

Many reviwers said the same that Xperia X has camera overheating issue

    Take this
    https://youtu.be/UaLl8grFhtw

  • iia3ezu

Nice box. I want the box. The phone… not so much.

  • Timel

Many of sony son of bitch fanboys cant accept the face and also do the disgusting jobs

They against all reviewers that reveal the fact , the fact that X camera is very horrible , there’s a camera overheating issue

For example Damir Fanc , he has to delete the video about camera overheating problems of Xperia X becuase sony fanboys is too chicken to accept the fact

  • Timel

Just dont get sony why they never can make the outperform smartphone camera

Is it hard for Sony to make the real best smartphone camera?

Samsung surpass sony so far in term of smartphone camera quality

  • jamie evans

I rather want to see leaked pics of what Sony is going to introduce at IFA2016. With its specs and boring design,X Performance can’t be the flagship of the year 2016… I hope not…

  • jamie evans

It’s $279 if you wait for US launch, much cheaper than buying it right now

  • Rene Pedroso

$620 USD for the XXP (Black or White) – F8132. See link below to purchase

    http://www.1shopmobile.com/Mobile-Phones/Sony-Mobile-Phone/Sony-XPERIA-X-Performance-Dual.html

  • xAntifreeZe

Does anyone know this? the Xperia X NFC detection area is at the top front instead of the back of the phone… @xperiablog

  • Sadman Khan

For using flashtool to flash an official firmware, you don’t need to unlock. You need to unlock only when you’re going for a custom kernel/rom. Even some roms are for locked bootloaders

  • iCeQubeTomato

Most uninteresting phone of the year

  • 3_nity

    Actually!

  • El_Carnicero

    Correct, same as the S7

  • Rosafharrington3
  • KIMI

I’m a shameless fanboy when it comes to Sony but come on yes it’s good in certain aspect (like battery) but compared to S7 camera heck even some comparison between the Z5 and the X shows that’s Z5 is a better camera phone (image quality, overall experience is better in X and I agree with that) despite being a 2015 phone. I love Sony, but the phone left me completely underwhelmed and please stop defending every mishaps they do and let them experience failure from their lack of drive in the mobile market. They’re (the higher ups in Sony mobile) too confident in the Sony brand and do not reflect on their current position which is destined to doom at the pace they’re going right now.

  • KIMI

I’m not saying you’re a hypocrite, since we all are hypocrite to a certain extent, we android fans have long been making fun of iPhone for their century old hardware, but we’re talking android here, the most defragmented bunch of them all. Being how unoptimized it is there’s a certain minimum requirement needed to properly run them at utmost fluidity, thing is, this specs are 2 years old aside the SoC. Now think before responding, how much better would the experience be if they followed the current spec requirement from their competitors, a 5gb ram, 1080P full RGB OLED with an 18:9 screen ratio so that on screen button could make sense (I do love on screen button tho) and a larger battery (3200mah+).

  • Amir

This phone including the whole “x” (Axed) line should be ignored by the media completely.

  • Chan Kin Cheung

I changed my mind after reading your sensible post, well said. One of my workmate who concentrate on android app told me that at worst case, you lost up to 20% of processing resources due to unoptimization of javac compiler, so you might be correct. I myself do website design a and PHP programming, anyways thanks for explaining.

  • marcyff2

The thing is not the 6gb of ram to run things is the 6gb so your phone becomes a full 64 bit powerfull computer. Soon enough smartphones will have the same power as a fully powerfull laptop.

  • At?lay
  • id3alistic

The issue is not that the X has lesser specs…. it’s that it’s freaking expensive for what it has.

  • id3alistic

The real issue isn’t that the X has lesser specs…. it’s the price.

  • Vinicius Araujo

Yeah. The “regular” Xperia X costs $1108 in my country. :(

  • RockStar2005

Hmm that’s cool man. So no unlock, no root. Not bad! lol

If the U.S. one was waterproof too (at least officially lol) I’d be more open to it, but Sony Mobile had to be dumb and take that “status” away from the U.S. version. I mean, could be they just don’t wanna advertise that here b/c they’re afraid ppl in U.S. are more likely to sue, but I for one don’t want to take that chance. lol

Got the XP today (int’l version) btw. It’s IMMACULATE!! Charging it now. :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been waiting MONTHS for this, and now it’s finally here!! lol

  • RockStar2005

Liter……… int’l XP came today!! I got it…………. it is IMMACULATE!! lol It’s all legit man. Shipped overnight from Hong Kong.

You can buy from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FMABWWM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (int’l QC 2.0 charger comes with it and adapter. Adapter’s prongs are a bit thin……. it fits slightly loose into wall outlet, so I may just get a 3.0 charger instead. lol)

and I got sweet well-designed premium TPU case too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DXUUC0Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  • RockStar2005

    Liter and all,

It finally came!! I got the dual-SIM XP delivered to me via Fedex just a couple hours ago!! It’s IMMACULATE!! lol

Letting it charge now. But wow……. can’t wait to use it! Bought it from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FMABWWM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And clear case coming later today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DXUUC0Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It’s super fast though! I turned it off to charge it, and I swear it shut down in like 2 seconds. lol

Only minor thing was you get an int’l quick charger with it which comes with an adapter. The adapter works with the charger, but the prongs are really thin so fits into wall outlet a bit loosely. This MAY be an excuse for me to get a Quick Charge 3.0 charger (since the int’l one at least is compatible, though they didn’t advertise that for some reason)? lol

Just bought this one lol: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019GQ6S2C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  • Sadman Khan

Give me a short review :P When you can hahahah

  • RockStar2005

    Ok sure. lol

  • ludimilojko

And what will you do with it? Render a 3D model of a turbo compressor? No, you will use it for Facebook, cos a 5 inch screen is useless for anything serious. My 24 inch Dell is getting too small, but, hey, i will buy a phone with 6 GB of RAM, so i can process the videos from my Canon 70D. Jesus …

  • RockStar2005

So far, this phone is pretty awesome! For only a 3GB phone, it puts my now about to be sold 4GB S7 to SHAME in terms of speed. lol I mean there is NO lag AT ALL. Even when I shut it down, it shuts off so fast you can barely tell it’s done! Like 2-3 seconds. Fingerprint sensor is super quick, no lag. Phone is gorgeous…….LOVE the brushed aluminum backside with the hairline finish. Very classy.

Had a minor hiccup after downloading the APN settings (nice to have that feature vs. doing it manually). After I rebooted it didn’t seem to work for making calls. So I realized early on the stock Contacts app on the phone is kinda shi**y & unstable lol, so I disabled it, and after a few tries, I found this one called Contacts + (see Play Store), and it seems to work perfectly! So that’s resolved. Apparently, the STOCK texting app is even better than the Google Messenger one I’ve used for a while now. Actually has a read Delivery report for SMS messages and a Read report for MMS messages (Google Messenger doesn’t have the second one), and looks JUST LIKE GM too. So I’ll be keeping that one.

The int’l version from NGP (see US Amazon) comes with a QNovo QC 2.0 (UCH10) int’l charger and adapter, NOT the UCH12 QC 3.0 one that apparently this phone is capable of handling. The adapter is kinda crappy and I let NGP know about it. The prongs on the adapter are a bit too thin, so although it slides into the wall outlet fine, it seems a bit loose and just a small tug will pull it out of place or out completely. Can you say fire hazard?! lol I think I’m gonna prob just chuck it and I’ve already bought a QC 3.0 charger for a great price and it’s super highly rated too.

There are a few things though that need to be addressed (ANY input or help would be greatly appreciated!):

    1) When the phone is on a call, instead of going to 4G (since no VoLTE, which I’m not happy about and we’ll discuss in a second lol), it goes to 3G. Why is this happening?? I know it’s the int’l version and all, but is there a way to alter it is so that it STAYS in 4G?? Any “flashware” that doesn’t require unlocking the bootloader or rooting?? My parents have the Xperia Z1s which doesn’t have VoLTE but was bought through T-Mobile, and it stays in 4G during calls, so wtf? lol

    2) Is there any flashware to put VoLTE on this phone? I know some foreign versions of the XP have VoLTE, but apparently the int’l version does not. At least with VoLTE I’d have LTE during the call.

    3) I’d downloaded the phone settings automatically using an option in Settings (Settings–>More–>Internet settings, then make sure to reboot after you’re done), so NO NEED to do it manually. That went well. Phone calls and texts are coming through fine now. I notice though that when in LTE, it doesn’t say 4G LTE, just LTE. Is that normal? Does that mean 4G LTE??? lol

Despite these issues, I’m EXTREMELY happy with this phone!! I HIGHLY recommend it, and this clear case is pretty nice too (though I’d prefer a Spigen or Rearth one, but they were dummies and didn’t make one for the XP).

When I make a call, the XP (which doesn’t have VoLTE) is supposed to go to 4G from 4G LTE, but instead, it goes down to 3G! Why? Not having VoLTE in my area shouldn’t mean going down to 3G. My parents have the Xperia Z1s (also no VoLTE) though locked from T-Mobile (also my carrier) and it stays in 4G during calls. Any ideas on how to fix this??

Exactly… 2 is good enough.. 3 may be better for more intensive use.. 4 might help a little more but anything more is just a gimmick

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Everyone is just after spec wars.. Sony has done something other manufacturers of the SD650 managed to. Make it perform like a flagship with superior software optimization.. Apps can be kept as long or longer than other flagships.. And that’s saying a lot..

  • Steven Khoo Skkl

Yeah, it’s more expensive, but as my. Showed,it last longer than most other phones out there.. Excluding some iPhone of course

  • umutb

    Wtf thats are old earphones

  • Sadman Khan

Damn now I feel like buying one xD Nice review man. Thanks a lot. And as for the VoLTE issues, well we don’t have that around these parts so I’m not quite sure. But I think that it is more hardware specific. Well you can try posting in XDA (X performance section) or in talk.sonymobile.com for more help. They might be able to give you some pointers. I think I have seen a few people switching firmwares for VoLTE so there’s hope lol. You can post in those two places to get a legit answer. Above all, congratulations on your new phone! :D

  • RockStar2005

    Khan,

Haha…..thanks man! Glad you liked it. I have a slightly extended version you can read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67368906&postcount=160 (take a look when you can)

Even without VoLTE, the phone should still be staying in 4G, not 3G. But I was told by someone on XDA that when it says 3G during a call it’s ACTUALLY in 4G. So I dunno. lol Ok I’ll try talk.sonymobile.com too. Thanks! I’ll try posting there now.

    Thanks again man!

  • KzX

Nope. You just need to flash. Don’t need root, don’t need unlock Bootloader. Just flashtool and FTF file.

  • RockStar2005

    Nice. Thanks!

Any chance the US firmware would put VoLTE on this phone? The int’l XP I have DOES NOT come with VoLTE.

  • Roh_Mish

NFC on front? Really sony? Sony is clearly going back since the Z2/Z3 prime days. I waited so long for a sony 820 phone but now I think I will just get a nexus instead.

  • Roh_Mish

Price says otherwise m8. They are pricing the X above S7, HTC 10 and G5 here.

  • Roh_Mish

Yes but when I can get a clearly better phone (the S7 still blows the X out of water in intensive asks and multitasking) at lower price plus waterproofing (sony, this was your thing. WTF are you doing?) Why would I ever buy the X aside from the fact that I love sony as a brand.

  • Roh_Mish

Umm… there is. Infact xperiablog covers it recently.

    Get bent.

  • KzX

I’m from a third world country, never experienced VoLTE. Sorry, I don’t know about it.

  • Sony Xperia Z5 vs. Sony Xperia X Performance. Which is better? Sony Xperia Z5 has better battery, the larger screen. Sony Xperia X has behind metal and newer processor and soft.

  • RockStar2005

No problem. It basically keeps your call and data connection IN 4G LTE during a call, vs. it going back down to 4G, or 3G/H+, etc.

  • Battel

Other flagships has 2K displays, more screen-to-body ratio, dual led flash, each of them has it’s own special feature, even though if we didn’t like em but still something special differentiate their flagship from other, i.e samsum has edges displays, apple has 3d touch etc,
Yes Sony has 24MP camera but still can’t compete with 12MP quality, ironically the competitor 12MP camera is Sony camera (Shame) !

  • Eduardo Otero

Beyond being fake, the reason is said in the same note, Stamina would duplicate features with Doze. So Sony has to solve that problem before Stamina mode can work again as we all knew it

  • Eduardo Otero

Yes, the X series has NFC detection area at the top of the front.

  • marcyff2

There are quite good ideas for multitasking with 5 to 6 inch screens. (check the PA pie rom for Android for an example). the idea is not to fully replace your work computer. but to fully replace your home one.

  • ludimilojko

I’m processing my videos from my 70D on my home computer. On my work comp i’m working. Now, i can’t imagine what are you doing on your home computer, if a phone can replace it. Would you care to share that with me?

  • marcyff2

photoshop and autocad could possibly be used in a much smaller touch screen. Sketching too. Music development could work quite well as well. Just because no one has thought of making this programs doesn’t mean that they can’t exist

  • Sadman Khan

    No problem mate.

  • ludimilojko

Really? PS on a smaller touch screen? Ever tried to work in PS on small screen? To make a Burn layer with a precise layer mask? Maybe to fix skin imperfections on pixel level? You didn’t? Try that, and then tell me it’s possible.

  • Peter Francis Rudin

Just played with the X at a Sony store near where I live, the display is super gorgeous and it’s so much better than my Z5 , too bad I just had my Z5 for almost 6 months, or else I’ve bought it, might have to wait for the X2.

  • Alz

The amount of Sony fanboys in the comment section is unreal.
