Upcoming Sony G84XX model appears in benchmark, revealing a few more specs

by XB on 6th July 2017

in Rumours

We brought you some exciting news yesterday on what looks like two Sony Xperia flagships that will be announced at IFA 2017 at the end of August 2017. It appears that Sony will launch a flagship Sony G83XX model, along with potentially a compact version in the form of the Sony G84XX.

Well today, the Sony G8441 has made an appearance on the AnTuTu benchmark site, revealing a few more specifications. The listing shows a device running the Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM a 32GB internal storage and sporting a 720p display. That all sounds realistic, the same can’t be said for the camera which is listed as 8MP for both front and rear.

It’s worth noting that benchmarks have known to be wrong about a spec-list in the past, so don’t assume this is the final (or even correct in the first place!) We’ll bring you further details as we have them.

Via AnTuTu.

Thanks Diogo and Moisés!

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Remember this, All 3rd party app will detect that Xperia has 8MP camera which is because Xperia’s camera API tell the app like that.

I hate that part of Xperia though :P

  • razorg

32GB is a bit downer for me, but hey. At least we’re getting a full 4GB ram in a Compact device. HELL YEAH!!

  • Jarrod

If the resolution is right looks like the compact fans might be getting their xzs compact after all.

  • DBS

If the benchmark reads the output of the camera on automatic, then the 8MP is explained since Sony’s Auto mode produces, by default, 8MP oversampled photos.

The 720p screen indicates a Compact…let’s hope that they finally ditch the sh*tty LCD and switch to AMOLED though. Everyone else is doing it, Sony can’t continue to constantly fall behind.

  • DBS

More like a XZ Premium Compact since the XZs uses the Snapdragon 820 not the 835.

Let’s just call it what it likely is: Z6 Compact.

  • razorg

According to a previous leak, this Compact will indeed have a 4.6″ 1080p display, but the SoC will always render at 720p and upscale in order to conserve battery. This would be so epic!!!

  • DBS

Now THAT would be a good idea!
Still hoping for AMOLED though which, alongside a system-wide Black Theme (this is *so* easy…Sony only needs to open up its own Theme Engine), would also improve further the battery life on the phone.

  • Well, for that price, Sony you’ve lost!

  • krishkat

nope it would be Z7 Compact, because sony uses only odd numbers for compact models

  • DBS

Yeah, you’re right. And technically the XZ is the Z6 so these would indeed be the Z7’s :P

  • jocal69

Just give me the xzs with 64g, 835 processor and a little bigger battery and I’m in….

  • Mike Gonzalez

i pray for a massive sensor with 8mp resolution so it can literally see in the dark

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

sony just cheapskate company…. competitor already give us more internal storage but sony still give us 32GB for compact flagship…..

  • someone755

It’ll see in the dark, sure. It’ll see a bunch of noise only but it’ll see.

  • Mike Gonzalez

    LMAO

  • Moisés

Since Z5 people can change resolution on auto. It has 8, 20 or 23MP for imx300.
2017 phones have 12MP as lower resolution for auto superior.
    XZP and XZs on auto are 12, 17 ( 16:9) and 19.

XZ1 Premium has oled. Others have LCD.

  • Moisés

    Actually this would be Z9c.
X Compact took the place of a potential Z7c.

    X Perf = z6
    Xz = z7
    Xzs= z8
    Xz1= z9

  • DBS

Which is why I wrote “by default”. You be always been able to change the auto resolution, even on the Z3 you could do that.

Also no, the XZP has an IPS LCD screen too. Not AMOLED.

  • JC

    Not gonna happen.

  • Moisés

That georgian guy ( that one some people here do not like nor believe) said antutu is wrong.
    That it has imx400.
    Let’s hope he is right…

  • Harish

I expect sony to improvise the Camera department further, by going for 1.4 or 1.55 up, f 1.8 or 1.7 and OIS Along with EIS.

  • Moisés

It seems xz1 has 3000 mAh

  • Moisés

My z3+ has 20.7 on manual.
    Not auto …. I wish..

  • Moisés
  • Moisés

I mean, XZ1 Premium will have oled. Not amoled.
    Oled like the tv.

  • iia3ezu

    Android 8.0, hooray!

A bit stingy with the 32Gb internal storage (in 2017!) though. Xperia phones already have quite a bit of pre-installed stuff. Install a few apps, take some photos and videos (especially on a vacation) and that measly storage space disappears.

P.S: I hope TrackID is not installed. Quite retarded to pre-install TrackID when the service is going to be terminated soon. And if so, please do not pre-install Shazam as a replacement. If users want music recognition, they’ll find a solution themselves.

  • iia3ezu

    I doubt it.

  • iia3ezu

I don’t think any Xperia phone has OIS. Sony prefers to use its own proprietary digital stabilization (SteadyShot?).

  • Harish

Yes. But, XA ultra had OIS on 16MP selfie cam. It would be awesome if they employ OIS along with steadyshot in rear camera too.

  • DBS

AMOLED is just the marketing term for mobile grade OLED displays. It’s not a type of OLED ;)

  • DBS

Yeah. The problem is SteadyShot not works on video. And most people use their cameras for photos. Sony is just stubborn.

  • paul_cus

Really hope 32GB storage is wrong, but based on Sony’s history it probably isn’t.

  • someone755

Yeah sure it does. On a sensor this small it’ll either fry the sensor or produce images so horrible it might as well have friend the sensor.

  • SonyMan

    https://developer.sony.com/develop/smartphones-and-tablets/theme-creator/
It’s active since day one of Xperia Themes. I’ve created more than 10 themes myself with just bare downloaded google photos. Also if it wasn’t for Sony noone at all would have a Theme Engine in their roms, even if it is 5 years later than Sony.

  • DBS

I said open-up for a reason. If you’ve created more than 10 themes you’ll know that Sony does NOT allow for the customisation of any system UI app or feature. Settings backgrounds, notification tray etc, all of that is locked by Sony. Their AOSP Theme Engine allows customization of that, you’re right. Which is why you can do it with Substratum on rooted devices or on Samsung and LG phones. But for some stupid reason, Sony locked it all up on their own phones and since 5.0 it’s so called “theme engine” onlu changes wallpapers, icons and the navigation buttons.

    Hence open-up.
Sony needs to allow people to FULLY customise their phones.

  • Talos the Robot

I prefer bigger ISO’s with less noise, than using bigger apertures. I also prefer a hybrid stabilization that can be perfect for videos and photos, than having only ois. I hope they will make all these happen to Xperia phones.

  • dpc4321

Uummm what price is that? Have I missed something?

  • mountain

You cannot go lower than 2.0 on this sensor. The depth of field will be too great to get a decent shot of the background.

  • Moisés

    Oled= organic LED
Amoled = active matrix organic LED

Amoled has one of layers removed, it is thinner.

  • RuggeD_XBoY

    Looks like it’s another XA

  • Emil Oskarsson

There are still so many problems with amoled screens so no thank you, I hope Sony uses lcd screens until all the problems with amoled screens are fully solved :p

  • Emil Oskarsson

32GB rom is just fine for me as long as they keep the micro SD card slot :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

    Atleast it’s not 16GB xD

  • NinJy

32gb is ok imo. Well I assume most of the ppl using Android phone for/with SD card.
So camera storage is not phone nand.
Higher is ofc interesting for brands who do not propose SD port.

But for me it is the 4gb of ram the most disapointing.
Z5 Compact suffers too much of swaping/perma killing background apps with its only 2gb on Android 6 & 7.
8gb is more futur proof if Google don’t work on memory issues.

  • DBS

Active matrix is the type of TFT used. Unlike the OLED on TVs, it can store power and charge the pixels.

No phones use or will ever use the same OLED as TVs. Which is why Samsung started calling it AMOLED and the name caught on.

LG’s mobile OLED will also be AMOLED or at worst it could be P-OLED (which LG used on their smartwatches). However, because P-OLED has a much shorter lifespan, it’s only used for small displays. So it’s highly unlikely it will happen.
Also, AMOLED is a much more flexible type of display.

  • dpc4321

    Lol

  • Phil Gym

The specs sound cool, and it all comes down to the design. I hope it won’t end up like X Compact…

  • John Yuan

please be good looking so i will order at once

  • Kadek
  • Biancoceleste

No, Sony doesn’t use amoleds because they’re inferior displays. They’re colour inaccurate and they suffer burn in.

If you want amoleds so much just get a galaxy*

    * That isn’t a serious statement as it’s obvious you’re a Samsung troll teenager on a Sony site.

  • Biancoceleste

Anyone who has a clue about displays and colour accuracy doesn’t want an amoled screen because it is inferior tech for reviewing photographs.

If one just wants pretty colours and wants to keep up with the other jones’s then an amoled is fine and there are plenty other brands than Sony using them.

Some doesn’t use them for good reason.

  • Biancoceleste

It’ll be a great compact handset if it has those specs. Hopefully it’ll be waterproof as well.

  • DBS

Oh God, here comes the ignorant child again.
Both your statements are so filled with bullsh*t which has been disproved time and again, that I’m not even bothering anymore.

I’ve tried to teach you in the past but I’d have more success teaching a rock than you. So the best I can do is hope your mommy and daddy remove the parental block on Google and allow you to actually use a search engine to find some information so that you can educate yourself.

  • DBS

Irrelevant to you, though. Your parents won’t buy you one and you’re not old enough to work to be able to afford it.

(And THIS is trolling. Maybe now you understand the difference?)

  • Biancoceleste

How do you have all this time on your hands?

Do you think going around on all these websites screeching “BUT AMOLED!!!” convinces anyone with a tenth of a brain?

Get outside dude and enjoy the beauty surrounding you.

  • DBS

You have to remember though that the Z5 Compact came with the disastrous snapdragon 810 and that thing overheated like Hell. Which is why Sony pushed to hard on the killing of background apps.

It’s true, 8GB is more future proof. But Android doesn’t support it yet. So I understand if Sony wants to put in just 4GB. OnePlus did that as a marketing stunt. No one will be using the OnePlus 5 by the time Android properly makes use of 8GB of RAM (specially if OnePlus continues to deliver such poor software support).

  • Biancoceleste

Every post of yours is trolling fella, no need for distinctions.

Head on back to galaxyfanbois.com and save the folks here from your gibberish.

  • DBS

I will when you head back to mymommydoesntloveme.com ;)

  • DBS

See, we adults don’t have a bedtime like you. So we have time to spend as we see fit.

Also, it’s not me going around websites saying AMOLED is superior. It’s the entire industry. Even Sony is transitioning their TVs to OLED.
LG and Samsung are investing massively in OLED. Apple is doing it. EVERYONE is moving to OLED/AMOLED. Why? Because it IS superior technology.
It’s not my fault you’re just a stubborn child who’s too poor to pay for nicer things and so you want to keep the world down on your horrible colour-calibrated displays with poor colour reproduction.

Anyone with a tenth of a brain knows AMOLED is better than LCD. Which is why you think it isn’t.

  • Biancoceleste

Haha nice try. Adults don’t use words like “safe space” and “snowflakes”

    Outed there fella.
Be sure to cover your tracks properly when trying to lie ;)

  • DBS

They don’t? Funny. ’cause I’ve seen lots of adults doing it. Including the President of the United States of America (you know, that rich country across the pond where Android comes from?)

Cover my tracks? I don’t need to cover anything. I don’t cover my identity and I don’t cover my tracks. Unlike you, I’m an adult. I stand by all I say. The owner of Xperia Blog knows who I am and how to reach me, and so does anyone with a brain.
(Of course, I might to reply to everyone who tries to do it and I often just block children like yourself. But feel free to try it).

  • Biancoceleste

Last I checked, TV’s aren’t used for image editing and can afford the colour inaccuracy.

There’s a reason image editing monitors don’t use amoled.

    Nice try though.

  • Biancoceleste

Haha using trump as an example proves exactly the point.

You’re digging a deeper and deeper hole with every puddle of dribble you post.

Sure you’re an adult, “snowflake” ;)

  • DBS

Sorry…”image editing monitors don’t use amoled”? Oh yeah, that must be why Dell already has them for sale. Of course, you wouldn’t know that because you probably can’t afford a $3500 monitor but that’s not my fault.

Also, colour accuracy is excellent on an AM/OLED display as long as it’s calibrated properly. You do know that AM/OLED displays can be colour calibrated and don’t all come with vibrant colours, don’t you? No, you probably don’t.

Do you want to try again or do you want to continue showcasing the world your amazing lack of knowledge of 2017 technology?

  • Biancoceleste

That dell screen isn’t an image editing monitor mate, might want to find another example.

    Hint: you won’t.

  • DBS

Ooohh I see. Say no more, libtard. You’re one of those idiots that think President Trump is a “bad man” and that he “wants to destroy the World” aren’t you? Of course you are.

What’s the problem? You wanted to migrate to the US and you didn’t get your VISA? You’re too dumb to be kept with us in Europe and so you want to flee somewhere where people have low IQ’s like you so you can feel at home?
Well, I think you picked the wrong country. You should look for trips to a jungle instead, mate.

But you’re right. I’m digging too much and soon enough I will be opening a massive hole on the roof of your house.

  • Biancoceleste

    “libtard”

Lol, keep digging that hole. If you’re lucky you’ll finish it before you can grow a beard.

  • DBS

Because you don’t want it to be? LOL Mate, you don’t get to decide that. In fact, you don’t get to decide sh*t.

What matters in “editing monitors” is the RGB values they have. Most editing monitors should be above 99% RGB Adobe values. Guess what? The Dell one has 100% AdobeRGB, 100% sRGB, 100% Rec. 709.

    Oops…

  • DBS

Thanks, I already have a beard. I can actually grow one. Not sure you will when you grow up. Libtard hormones normally tend to degenerate people.

And as I’ve said, I don’t want to be accused of your homicide because my digging dug a hole in your rooftop and made your home collapse over you.

So I’ll do what I should have done to an ignorant, uneducated, deluded child like you long ago:
    Here’s a nice little block.
Like the one your mommy and daddy placed on your access to knowledge.

  • Biancoceleste

You clearly are not aware of what image editing entails with that statement.
There’s a lot more to it than that and the industry leader, Eizo, is a name you might like to google.

That dell screen, again, isn’t an image editing monitor it is just a premium hi res pc screen. That you don’t know the difference is glaringly obvious now but unsurprising considering your age.

When mum can buy you a real camera one day that isn’t your galaxy s7, as in one with dials, buttons, interchangeable lenses… We can talk further.

  • Biancoceleste

    Sure you do ;)

Hormones have American pseudo-political stances now?
Again young fella, keep digging :D

  • Phone Battles

Glad they’re back to flagship Compact phones. Plenty of mid range smaller phones already.

  • Conan

something would have to go very, very wrong with this device for me not to buy it.

  • webuser.my

What other competitors out there has a compact flagship?

  • Tommy He

Exactly. Please don’t go over green-ish AMOLED. IPS LCD is good. Upgrade should go to OLED, not the half-way product as AMOLED

  • azzido

The only issue with compact is 32GB Rom :(

  • NinJy

Ho I did not forget, it still warming my hands every days!
But i’m not sûre it is that crappy soc or really the low memory.
Basically, I boot the phone, make sûre all apps are closed: 1.7/2.0gb are used in memory management.
Android and Google librairies take like 1.3gb already…
I just have to run Walkman, chrome and messenger. The phone is OOM and kill Chrome or messenger as soon as I switch it. Even Walkman got killed sometimes while you’re listening…
I’m quite sûre the poor battery life Come from here too. Always reloading apps from scratch make the CPU works a lot. :/

Btw that ‘s why i’m expecting à lot from those new “XZ1”.

  • mUSICA

8mpx? Hopefull It Will Be like 30K Would Sell like Cakes

  • Graito Padmonobo

Never bother with sony’s stuff, but agree. At least give us option to completely remove the unwanted apps.

  • Stephen

There’s various free apps that will do that. When I had my 32gb Xperia X I NEVER ran out of space and never deleted any of a year’s worth of photos – there’s this thing called an SD card. But also there’s various free apps that will forcefully remove any pre-installed apps. I’ve recently discovered that 16gb is NOT enough – even with just a few apps and games installed (we’re talking well under 10). But as a base 32gb is doable.

  • Moisés

Probably it looks like exactly like X Compact. But metal instead of plastic…
    Hope they are glass….

  • Hieu Nguyen

Nice render! But keep dreaming of those bezels mate :((

  • razorg

    Woah! :O

  • Ogbemudia Jonathan Etin-osa
  • paul_cus

Yikes, thank goodness they aren’t pulling that anymore.

  • Hideg Jenő Péter

    No stereo speaker?

  • Moisés

I have seen this before. This is probably the real phone…
It looks too good to be only prototype. It looks final device…

  • Moisés

Must be like Z2, Z3+ and Z5. Near frame

  • Hieu Nguyen

wow really? Now i’m dreaming too lol

  • Vinny Conforto

Please create new Xperia phones that I can be proud of

  • Vinny Conforto

    That looks so…just a concept

    any leaked pics?

Is this all Sony has to do to please the simple folk over at Trustedreviews.com and CNET? “Oooooh it looks all nice and no bezels! [completely omits any talk about hardware and build quality] It’s a really lovely looking phone, 4/5 stars!” ¬.¬

  • Ederson Baumbach .*.

I also prefer the design of the Z2, Z3+, Z5 and Z5P speakers.
XperiaBlog could do a search to see what your readers think.

  • Thameem Ansari

    xzs is already with 64gb

  • MrWalker1000

i agree with you but sony does make professionaly OLED monitors for hollywood studios.

with that said IPS is definitely more color accurate than samsung. the reds are displayed as red on my sony where as on samsung devices it always appears as orange.

  • MrWalker1000

sony uses its own IOS which is a sensor shift. so it uses EIS and its own OIS at the same time

  • MrWalker1000

you do realize sony uses sensor shift stabilization?

  • DBS

You’re making things up. Sony does NOT use OIS at all. The sensors can NOT move. Neither on a phone nor on cameras. The only parts that move are the obturador and the lenses. Sony uses only EIS which is software stabilisation. OIS is hardware stabilisation. And they have so far only used it in the front camera of a phone (I don’t remember which of them since Sony keeps releasing new versions of new phones)

  • Talos the Robot

For some of its professional cameras yes, but for the Xperia line i don’t thing so. There is no official confirmation about that.

  • akhilesh gupta

    Correct the logo looks fake

  • Darkfalz

If they can do 4k in a 5.5 inch I don’t see why they can’t do 1080 in a compact.

  • razorg

So Xiaomi managed to put an OIS capable camera module in the newest Mi6 (http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_6-8507.php) without a a camera bump (which Sony themselves gave as the reason why they didn’t use OIS, for the favour of thin phones with no bumps), BUT Mi6 is a 7.5mm thick phone, which is absolutely remarkable bearing in mind that for a 5.15″ screen phone, it has a giant ~3300mAh battery and OIS camera without a bump. I’m not a Sony hater, in fact a loyal supporter, and lots of people like me are waiting for Sony’s upcoming move in Autumn ’17, and if the upcoming flagships won’t have OIS and plus thicker bodies, Sony won’t go much further I’m afraid…

  • DBS

OLED and AMOLED are the same thing. AMOLED is just a marketing name for a type of OLED used in phones…

  • MrWalker1000

could have sworn they use sensor shift.

  • DBS

Nop. Video stabilisation is based on cropping tricks. SteadyShot is really good for video but doesn’t work on photos.
Nothing moves inside Sony phones, neither the lenses (and much less the entire sensor).

  • MrWalker1000

    whats the senso rshift then.

it would explain why low light photography is so bad on it. But then again google pixel has opted out of OIS as well.
