Xperia XZ and XZs received Android Oreo update (41.3.A.0.401)

by XB on 24th November 2017

in Android, Firmware, Xperia XZ series

Sony Mobile has today begun to roll the Android 8.0.0 firmware update for the Xperia XZ and Xperia XZs. Sony has updated the building number from 41.2.A.7.76 to version 41.3.A.0.401. The same build number should hit the Xperia X Performance shortly. It’s good to see Sony get Oreo out on the Xperia XZ before the turn of the year. If you’ve updated let us know your impressions in the comments below.

Thanks dunno some guy, dyepnoodle, Jenge, Jozef, maleni, najodleglejszy, Omar and Ryan!

  • Nirmal Kapopara

Finally got I m so happy thank you sony

  • Piotrek

Maybe in December will appear on the Xperia X and X Compact?

  • What’s your region? I’m still waiting for the update on F8331 RU ROM

  • Pardeep Sihag

    Still not recived in India.

  • Taras Buria

Damn, I need this for my Xperia X ASAP.

  • sanehdeep singh

how possible front camera flash , xperia xz dont have front flash
xperia xz1, xperia xzs have different camera so same feature cant b availble

u shoud b happy u got the oreo update

    i have same xperia xz
can u please share screen shoots of new os

  • RuggeD_XBoY

Still waiting for the update. Did the XZ and XZs also get the 3D Scan app?

  • razorg

    OH PUH LEASE!

The guy obviously know that XZ doesn’t sport a physical LED front flash. What he means is “screen flash” for selfies…

  • razorg

From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t come with the updated Camera UI, as in XZ1. Like, 4K still being a separate app and things. Weird. Bringing that updated UI will definitely not result in a better picture quality to putt people off from buying newer devices. I feel you bro. They should’ve definitely updated that as well.

  • razorg

X Perf. is supposed to get it any minute now. Because from Sony’s point of view, X Perf/XZ/XZs are the same due to the same chipset. They even have the same firmware build number. The latest Nougat build number for all three was 41.2.A.7.76, where 41 points out to the device/chipset. Then next in line will be X/X Compact.

  • Heeyeon Ahn

Got it on my XZ. Love the UI changes. I really hope it fixes all of my battery draining issues.

  • razorg

Is Xperia Calendar app replaced with Google Calendar?

  • Moisés

Last year the updates started in the last week of november too, just like now.
X Perf got it a few days before XZ. Then almost 2 weeks later X and Xc.

I believe XA1 trinity has chance to be updated until early january if no issues are seen this time like with Z5.

  • razorg

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about XA1 series. You’re right.

  • Moisés

SMS e calendário do Google vieram no update ou você já os tinha?

  • Marinko Agic

Where is louder speakers and better camera like in Xperia XZ premium Oreo???

  • Yuri

That’s right so hopefully starting tomorrow, the X Performance gets it too!

  • Yuri

These feautures are only available on xz premium (android 8) and above.

  • Jozef Cmar

Sony XPERIA XZ receive official Android 8.0.0 Oreo
    https://youtu.be/TF-C7Z80uaU

  • FYLegend21

They want to keep things exclusive to the newer devices. They did the same thing with the Z5 which never got any X series features and still has the terrible shutter lag. XZ Premium was lucky enough to even get these. That said it is pretty ridiculous that proper burst shooting was removed for the Z3 and only added back for the XZ1!

On the downside, the old 4K app was the only app that allowed for a set constant white balance setting in video and this is no longer the case with the XZ Premium. This is ridiculous since video samples show that the white balance shifts under certain conditions while in some other smartphone cameras you can fix it to a constant setting.

  • FYLegend21

Yes but it is ridiculous that the burst shooting was originally there in the Z3 and then removed until the XZ1…

  • Moisés

I got very pissed off to lose burst mode when updated Z3+ to 6.0.
On 6.0 there was HDR for 20.7MP , then not anymore on 7.0/7.1

  • Actman

So you can finally feel what they Z5 series owners felt back there! Sony is the best!

  • m477

    It’s very probable.

  • Ognjen Markovic

No we won’t get that app or the new camera ui sadly. However you can download the patched version of the app that runs on all SD820 devices. I’ve been using it for a few months now on my XZ and it works perfectly. Here’s my Onedrive link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Al5G-wlUgLdPheUjLzxjLxSKiK6FZg

  • Spencer

My carrier is releasing Oreo for the X Performance on December 6th so it should be very soon for unlocked models!

  • RuggeD_XBoY

    Thank you so much!

  • razorg

I mean, it’s not even a major update, nor an overhaul of post processing algorithm, so the newer UI won’t even result in a better picture quality, instead, improved practicality of the app. Could very well be given to the XZ users as a gesture of good will. Noone will ever say “ahh 4K is not a separate app anymore in XZ Premium so I’ll definitely go and pay £200 more and get it instead of XZ”. The people who’re going to get the Premium will still get the Premium, and the ones who were going to get the XZ will still get the XZ. But this long-awaited practicality fix would be very much appreciated by XZ users…

  • Raymond De Guzman

Do we get new set of wallpapers?

  • Yes, until the Nougat update arrived.

  • I meant, which region/version do you have installed on your device: Customized GEL, Customized US, Customized TR? Since those 3 are the ones that have updated so far
It’s be awesome if you post a screenshot of the “about phone” page

  • Talos the Robot

The XZ does not have a memory-stacked sensor like the newer models and that’s the reason it cannot support features like the 960fps and burst mode.

  • Igor Helal

Sorry, but older models had burst mode like z2 and z3. So…

  • Talos the Robot

Yes i know that, but if you remember these devices had very bad focusing and the burst mode was slower. Now with the intergated memory i dont have these issues. I also use the burst mode in manual mode and it is very usefull especialy when i shoot in slower shutter speeds.

  • Marco Aurélio

I’m sorry folks, but you are a joke, I got the Xperia XZs witch has the same camera sensor of the new models and I didn’t get the bust mode. Mid range phones in other manufacturers have bust mode, your comment is just a joke really, no sense.

  • Emil Oskarsson

The Xperia calendar can still be downloaded at the play store though :)

  • jrnr

Many Thanks, just downloaded. Works flawlessly

  • jrnr

Use timeshift burst( does the same job as burst mode)

  • Mandar Wadadekar

How come the kernel is still 3.18? Google have specifically cleared that the kernel version should be bumped to 4.4 or better to avoid any security mishaps… Is sony listening?

  • 陳德晃

XZP is not “lucky” to get those features. It’s a must bcz it’s flagship of 2017 and share almost the same hardware with XZ1.
XZP is just early release than XZ1, updating to latest software is expected.

  • Sam

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

It will probably come out after all of Sony’s SNAPDRAGON 820 chipset smartphones are updated

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

Dude front flash is the hardware, not the software -_-“

  • Ian Howie

Can anyone share their battery stats since the update to Oreo on their XZ… I was getting terrible battery life on 7.1.1 with phone idle drain being one of the main culprits. Just wondering if that has been rectified..

  • No! I have it on my Z5!

  • Marco Aurélio

Oh, yeah, it’s hardware, that’s why Instagram, snapchat and all camera apps on playstore has front facing flash (they light up the screen) … That must be hardware HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Marco Aurélio

I’m laughing of this comment section of people arguing how goddess Sony is for giving this update, Seriously? This is more than their job. No UI changes, no new camera Ui, no burst mode, no front flashing (the phones light up the screen for the folks), just an new amazing and wonderful new clock Ui and new settings Ui (oh my God, that’s what I needed). That’s an ridiculous update! No functions, no nothing, Sony was never and will never be in the competion with other manufacturers, the are year behing. And for the incredible and furious fans, I Got and Xperia XZs with was launched with the same camera of XZ premium and XZ1… And I did not get any new features, Sony??? Will not be my next phone.

  • Night Guy

Even 5 xperia action mode and new clock ui could be installed on my z5. I really should skip to buy xz and xzs then.

  • Marco Aurélio

    No.

  • washinma2424

Don’t have stats yet but so far battery life is night and day for me. OREO really has improved that aspect.

  • Ian Howie

    Thanks for the update

  • razorg

Now everyone understands how Z5 users felt a year ago, then. I wrote the same things then, and again, there were people labeling me as a hater, and I was told to go away and buy another brand’s products. But in fact, I felt like I was robbed of my money, because I wasn’t getting any newer goodies with the updates (whereas others -although late- would overhaul their UI and stuff with each major update, and costed the same in the beginning), only under-the-hood improvements. All in all, I feel you man :/

  • Heeyeon Ahn

Doesn’t seem to have improved for me. Google Play services app was running rampant on my phone, eating up the battery for some reason, and still is after this update. I’ve tried revoking some of it’s permissions to see if that helps.

  • LocalPatriot

Anybody can link a free fast link for the ftf file?

  • lolop

Has it fixed your battery issues bro?

  • lolop

You’re completely underestimating how difficult and time consuming it is to upgrade from one version of an operating system to another.

  • Great info! Im waiting for it ;)

  • Keshav Burtony

It’s not as cool as you think it is.Trust me on that..

  • Marco Aurélio

I feel you too bother! Thank you for sharing this.

  • Ian Howie

Geez i hope it’s just a minor bug that can be fixed soon.. I don’t know why these updates don’t run well on the older flagships as they do on the newer ones..

  • Yuri

True, Sony has indeed made some weird changes in the past 3 years when it comes to software. Still, I would recommend using their Timeshift burst, it needs to be downloaded separately though.

  • Aminouv Sersou

get ready the Xperia z5 series it will taste at the 8.0 update early next year

  • Jose Luis Hernandez

with the upadte, it has the 3D creator?

  • G-UNIT_(Z)

Hi! Everybodyyyyy. I like that (Y) I always open hes videos to hear that

  • got it on my xperia xz and i love the update!

here are my initial impressions > https://goo.gl/rtThqZ

  • Igor Helal

    Veio no update

  • SupaPhly

is anyone going to upload a ftf for XZ F8331?

  • Arup

Correct all XZ use IMX 400 stacked memory sensor and have same capabilities be it XZ XZs and latest XZ1

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

Wrong, XZ still uses the same IMX300 sensor from Z5, X and XA1 series. The newer IMX400 is currently used only on XZs, XZ Premium and XZ1 series.

  • Arup

I stand corrected, was confused between XZP XZs and plain XZ.

  • Igor Helal

    No.

  • Jeff Anthony S Enad

The update do support Project Treble? What improvement on this has to the phone? Louder speaker volume?

  • 2sfhim

Had it on my Z1 if I recall well, but probably thanks to a mod. Either way, never used it.

  • 2sfhim

    Still not available in Canada

  • Gregory See

I’m laughing hard here. Why not tell your so called ‘pathetic’ assertion to Samsung or Apple as well? I almost forgotten that Samsung and Apple only hires Supermen/Superwomen in order to get their job done. They need no sleep.

  • Gregory See

Spot on. Thanks for stating the true fact here. Well I’m sure human will make mistakes and experience is the best teacher. Good luck to Xperia then.

  • Nirmal

    Waiting in india

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

The problem is that you always want the best to be present on your supposedly “older” device.
I mean, if Sony has put their new AF Burst, 4K video in the settings, Manual ISO in the controls, etc., then it just lost the point of the XZ Premium and XZ1 Series being the “newest flagships” from Sony.

Even Samsung still have software differentiation between their older and newer devices. The reason the Note 8 isn’t as popular as the Note 7 was last year is because they’re literally the same phone with same experience, just newer screen ratio, dual camera, and interface changes. Also it is Sony’s plan of selling phones because they want the best to be exclusive to their truly best current products

  • razor7s

Not completely fixed but you can feel the battery performance is much more better now

  • Nirmal

I’m waiting when I got update in india

  • Antoine

According to multiple sources across the web XZ has an imx300. The imx400 started to appear with the XZs and XZ Premium series. And after testing the XZs, you can bust at 960fps. You just have low the resolution like on all capable devices to 720p.
For other devices, what you so call burst mode is actually ‘Timeshift’ accessible in the app camera across most of the Z and all the XZ Lineup. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7a442fc956126657e6afa59539e62d876f32952f7feb1b2f92b53ebb1d2d4511.png

  • XtremE16

Sony Xperia XZs – After update Battery life is gone very fast.. No burst mode, and Andromeda substratum rootless theme engine not open, nothing response anything,,… Thats not good.. Anyone tell sony fix it

  • XtremE16

Yes right man… Same problem with my xperia xzs… Battery life is not a good…. Nougat is better management…

  • b202103050 TMU

they can give more about the oreo update, but Sony just won’t.

i bought xperia s. z2, z5p, xz. And xz will be my last sony phone.

Their updates are quick without doubt, but its not generous.

I personally do not think its a good way in marketing. Users always need the newest and the best user experience. When they need to buy a new phone , they will definitely chose the next flagship of this company.

I think that is why apple is so successful in smartphone business.

Sony has nice hardware, but they use their software to restrict the performance .

ex. xz oreo update doesn’t support iso and ss separated .

shutter speed 1 second maximum ..

they can keep stacking the hardware whenever the new phone is promote, and then restrict its potential with further updates

    bless you, sony

  • danne94

No Project Treble support. Even on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium.

  • danne94

    Really? Source?

  • danne94

Sony only bumped Kernel 4.4 on their Open Devices Program.

  • danne94

Speaker and Camera still the same, No changes only the UI.

  • Moisés

On XZ1 you choose ISO or SS too. Just like XZ.

  • Moisés

    XZ 2016 has imx300. Like Z5 and X Perf.

  • Lois Bernard

yes please fix battery drain awful was great on Nougat

  • Yasir Fawad

Got it in Pakistan yesterday. Don’t know why not there? It’s same region.

  • Lokesh Pop

i got for xperia xzs after installing oreo. facing some trouble with screen mirroring and audio frequency with my home theater sony HTiv300…..before update audio frequency was SBC 380kbps and now AAC 314kbps….screen mirror is not working.

  • Yuri

Carriers can play a role in the update release in each country, so Canada may have to wait until career approval

  • Lukáš Vacek

The problem is that Xperia XZs can’t instal Timeshift Burst (all phone with Motion Eye can’t). So I have no option how to make burst. And this is really bad. (I love Timeshift Burst nn previous device)

  • Lukáš Vacek

Sorry but XZs and XZ Premium was announced in Barcelona on the same day. So why is XZs “older”.

The funny thing is that camera API was downgrade in Oreo for XZs. Example is 4K video app. Previously there was no 4K video app and we can make 4K in normal video (same as XZ Premium, XZ1, XZ1 compact). Now we have again two application.

  • Marco Aurélio

That’s ridiculous right? I got Xperia XZs, launched in the same day of Xperia XZ Premium with same camera specs and no new features for us.

  • 2sfhim

My phone doesn’t come from a carrier.

  • Warren Chang

i bet my sony XZs 8.0 oreo won’t receive the 3d scanner app, unlike the 8.0 update for XZ premium.

  • Warren Chang

    thought so

  • Yuri

In that case, you might be lucky and get it in the next few days.

  • Xda pro

  • Nirmal

I m so sad because not update found in india

  • Khillo81

I suggest you wait a bit after the update before assessing battery life; battery life is miles better on Oreo.

  • lolop

The S7 doesn’t even have Orea so I don’t know what you’re on about. Comparing to Apple is misguided.

Some comments make me laugh. A lot. Xz doesn’t have burst mode? And you think is the same like z3 on old ui? Seriously? The Xzp and xz1 one is different. It focus every shoots and shot at insane speed and follow moviment of the object do you follow. Not like all other burst mode. I think it needs other memory of imx 400, a better processor, like 835. Xzs doesn’t have some features of xz1? Marketing guys! Xz1 became almost useless if xzs have all same features. You think Sony is the only one who do those things? ALL OEM do this. Thank God if your Sony have Android 8.0 with latest patches. Other oem have 7.0 on their phones with older patches. Xz and xzs doesn’t have treble? Snapdragon 820 doesn’t have never, because the kernel. Blame Qualcomm here. Not Sony. Samsung and the others doesn’t do a better work on updates… Do it even worse. Those blind people…

  • Attila Golik

After XZ Premium Oreo update, this bug exists in the actual XZs Oreo update too: System UI Tuner Do not disturb toggle https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/93ad2e1625216beba94b5a2a8e7cacb4b79fbf803e8f0ebc6d9601ff0c552ba8.png

  • Yuri

Keep in mind that the XZs was marketed by Sony as a high end midrange, not a flaghship. So that might be a reason right there.

  • Yuri

Sony has released it for the X Performance too now!

  • Fatir Ali
  • Mandar Wadadekar

Is this even true… I tried changing my region but still update is not available

  • Battal

Slower startup, no much changes !

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

Have you tried downloading the app from another source (e.g. APK Mirror)? This sounds like just some stupid checking they added in Play Store since all Motion Eye devices (except XZs) now have the new bursting mode…

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

Well, this option is buried deep into System UI tuner exactly because it’s not stable. It also glitches randomly on my Xperia X running Nougat…

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

Um, you’re wrong regarding Treble support on Snapdragon 820/821. The first Google Pixel with its Snapdragon 821 also runs the same old kernel (3.18) and become Treble-enabled after Oreo update.

Also, if you build an AOSP ROM using the source code and binaries Sony published at Developer World, you actually get Linux kernel 4.4 not only on X Performance/XZ/XZs but also on the midrangers with Snapdragon 650 (X/X Compact/Xperia Touch).

In other words, the only one to blame for not providing Project Treble on the official firmware of any Xperia other than XZ1 series is just Sony…

  • Attila Golik

Deep? It’s one of the main menu point in System UI Tuner settings. If it’s so deep to you how can you even setup your phone??? Not stable? You don’t even think that seriously do you? It is only a switch like the one on the drop down menu. It’s only bad dimensioning in portrait mode, but it’s annoying for us who using it.

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

Most of the new Google requirements only apply to devices that ships with Oreo from factory (e.g. XZ1/XZ1 Compact). Old devices receiving Oreo through firmware updates are exempt of those requirements

  • Luigi De Francesco

No I’m absolutely right. Pixel and xl are Google devices. They have some privileges respect the devices with same soc. Pixel and pixel xl have treble and eas built in. Other snap 820 /821 nope. Nexus 6p have vulkan api and Oreo. Other snap 810 nope. Nexus 5 have camera 2 api and marshmallow. Other snap 800 nope and for camera 2 api we waited 2015 for other devices. If you want to have everything before the others, buy a Google phone. Then Sony open devices is a experiment to put 4.4 kernel on xz. But with some bugs regarding lack of libs adapted to this soc. No other oem have snapdragon 820/821 with 4.4 kernel. And some oem doesn’t have treble enabled on 2017 devices too… When Sony do this. And other oem will do this on 2018. One year later… Just like every Google feature receive later. Sony it isn’t the only one who lack on some devices with treble. On other way put treble on two device. Other oem doesn’t do the work better. Some oem lacks on treble on new devices too and Oreo! Mate 9 is exception because huawei update kernel on their big update (but do only one big update always… When other oem do two… And on this blog people complain Sony for updates when do the job better than the others… Ok..).

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

System UI Tuner only shows up by holding the small gear icon from Quick Settings panel for some seconds, so, “normal” users won’t even think there’s something hiding there (and I bet most “tech-savvy” users only knows it exists because they’ve read about it in the news of some random technology website). If that isn’t burying settings deep, I don’t know what it is.

Then, after enabling it, you still get a popup warning on the first time you enter it (and every other time you access the menu you’ll have a small note at the bottom reminding you) saying those features “are experimental, might not work or disappear without notice”.

So, you’re complaining that an ***experimental*** feature is not working as flawlessly as you think it should and expect them to fix it? I honestly doubt it’ll happen…

  • hamboy

Not yet in UK either mate

  • Mateus B. Cassiano

My point is that if Pixel and Pixel XL became Treble-enabled means Qualcomm did produce all required code and binaries to accomplish that with the Snapdragon 820/821 (even if it’s used only on two devices), and you still suggest blaming them for the lack of support (???)

The second point is, I never said Sony is bad at providing updates, it’s actually the opposite, they’re one of the fastest OEMs at providing updates nowadays. What I won’t do, however, is praising them for things that are just their basic obligation and I will of course complain about things they could have done (like making their Snapdragon 820/821 devices Treble-enabled with the Oreo update).

Should I praise them for making XZ1 and XZ1 Compact Treble-enabled? Of course not, they wanted to launch those devices with Oreo so by Google guidelines they must be compatible with Treble and have a 4.4 kernel to pass the certifications.

  • LocalPatriot

My navigation icons oher than yours. Why? My home button looks like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF-C7Z80uaU Just a point, and there isn’t a circle…How can it be? Not the same…

  • Fatir Ali

I don’t know man. May be a different theme. But antutu score after oreo is cool. And so is the performance. How about yours? Can you post yours?

  • Ivan Hleb
  • FYLegend21

It’s just recording 1080p 30ps before and after pressing the shutter button. I would be happy if Timeshift Burst was at least based on 4K footage.

  • FYLegend21

The phones before Z3 had burst shooting but for Z5 to XZ they removed it

  • FYLegend21

I get your point, but something like burst shooting has become a standard with most phones. Sony had it up until the Xperia Z3 and then killed it off for people to use this “Timeshift burst” app, which is really just taking 1080p video before and after you press the shutter.

I have the Z5 and it’s camera UI was not updated significantly in both Lollipop and Nougat, plus the shutter lag is still there.

  • danne94

If Sony officially release a perfect working 4.4 kernel in the official Oreo release, I guess Treble will be supported.

  • Lukáš Vacek

Of course… From APK Mirror failed the installation (I test it on both Nougat and Oreo). I don’t have root, so I don’t try anything else.

  • Nirmal

I think sony have problems with indian user becous updates not received

  • razor7s

Can you tell me why are you expecting improvement of hardware performance from OS update?

  • Or you can make a clean install!
Had the same draining issues when I updated via OTA.
Made a repair on Xperia Companion and now my XZ runs as smooth as butter!
It’s not the best looking update from Android/Sony but it’s really great on performace and that stuff IMO.

Some complain here about Sony update. After this update I change device and blah blah. Like if Sony do worst update. I think is one of best or the best who do updates. The point is that Sony isn’t the one who doesn’t provide treble for “older” device with snap 820. And this similar case it isn’t the first one. Just i said like vulkan api, camera 2 api and some updates. I think qualcomm and Google have some agreements for some features and updates. For have some exclusives on their devices. If is only Sony to do this, is OK, we must blame Sony. But the others do the same… So we doesn’t blame Sony. But Google and Qualcomm. Because it isn’t the first case just i said. But if open source devices enabled treble in some way, we are lucky :)

Sony Give always late updates to Indian users

  • Sachin_S

When update starts roll to India

  • Nirmal

I m agree with you bro, sony give always a late update for india I don’t know how?

  • Rohan

They need to wait for approval from Carriers to bundle volte and wifi calling profiles. Otherwise no VoLTE on Jio and Airtel. You can already flash other countries ROM right now. Plus the update will be out I a week. Much better than no updates on other OEMs

We didn’t get the new camera ui, but the image quality is much better. Noise has been reduced drastically.

  • Jer

Still waiting on my HK Xperia XZ dual.

  • Ziggy

Gahhhh, still waiting the Oreo update for my XZs. I hope it arrives soon. It has been a long week of waiting since the announcement.

  • TechRec

Not happy. First no mobile internet – fixed by reloading settings. But the worst problem is a change to the volume control curve so now that when that pesky headphone warning pops up and reduces the volume to 50%, it’s inaudible. Using the nav app, the driving instructions suddenly stop and I have to pull over, open the phone, answer the dumb warning and reset the volume. An already dangerous feature is now even worse.

  • Mac

Got it OTA today on my XZ here in Sweden.

Is VoLTE available with the firmwares other than that of Indian?

After 7 days update not found in India, sorry sony this is my last flagship I used xperia e, e3, z2, z3, z3+, xa, and xz dual is last for sony

Is Sony trying to compete with Indian Railway.. Clap Sony wins….

  • Gregory See

Stupefied with your twisted utterance. Despite your vigorous ‘stand’ on how did you mentioned about difficulties and time utilization in order for any OEM out there who upgrading their respective devices and yet you twist and turn about the actual fact. Samsung might late with updates but study on how their phones come with plenty of new goodies that you can actually feel the freshness of your phone. Sony is fast with updates but totally nought. Apple irrelevant? Did Apple stopped updating iOS? So are you too emphasizing that Samsung and Apple’s time are more to ‘invaluable’ comparing to Xperia’s? Perhaps you were right on “Comparing to Apple is misguided”. The truth is Xperia isn’t up to par with Apple.

  • Nirmal

Wait for Ota update in india

  • Mandar Wadadekar

Any mobile manufacturer have update for India after 2 or 3 weeks now..not only Sony…

  • lolop

Just got the UK EE update.

    First impressions:

Seems much more smooth and fast. Signal strength is VASTLY improved. Before I got 1 or 2 bars at work and now I have 4 or 5 bars, because of this my 4g speeds are more consistent.

So far so good but the real test is the battery, on Nougat I would get unacceptable battery loss on standby so looking forward to testing out Oreo in that regard.

    Well done Sony!

  • lolop

You’re an utter ignorant fool, iOS is completely different because it’s a completely different eco system that can’t be compared to Android’s release cycles. Apple manufacture the devices that use iOS. iOS is an apple operating system. Sony manufactures the device that use Android. Android is a Google operating system. See the difference there?

The XZ Premium camera and the XZ camera are not the same LOL.

The “Home” application is improved, you can have a custom layout and custom icons now so I don’t understand what more you want.

The Camera UI hasn’t changed but they’ve changed their post-processing to reduce noise in low light – MUCH MORE important than a superficial UI change.

XPERIA phones are DEFINITELY NOT up to par with Apple. I didn’t say otherwise.

I had the S7, the UI is slower than XPERIA phones but miles better than what they used to have. Their major operating updates are shambolic, slow and buggy. Tell me what features the S7 got with an android upgrade?? Coz I’ll tell you right now pal it didn’t get any of S8’s flagships features.

  • Harish Thalanki

Still no signs of update in India. Sony please do it fast.

  • Harish Thalanki

Hello lolop, could you share the pic of ram used after the oreo update

  • Anubhab Patnaik

Did you get the Oreo update on Xperia XZ in India?

  • Rohan

If you are in India, have jio and don’t have the update try this: remove your Jio Sim for 24 hours. I’ve noticed that I usually get the update early on when I don’t have my Jio Sim in the phone. If it’s in there, it usually takes a month.

  • Harish Thalanki

Can anyone keep a picture of ram usage after oreo update

Hi, my average memory use over the last one day is 2.5gb. I think it does the same thing as linux though where it tries to maximise the memory being used and then uses the SWAP partition whenever more memory than is available is needed.

  • Harish Thalanki

Saw the same in my phone. What’s this Sony???

  • Gregory See

Look whos fool now? Who the hell doesn’t know iOS belongs exclusively to Apple. And I don’t need your precious counselling either. Keep it to yourself mate. Isn’t from iOS 10 to 11 was considered as a major update for Apple? So the question is why both Apple and Samsung can provide a newer experience for their respective devices once a major update hits ’em and Xperia can’t? So are you emphasizing that their updates are not considered as strenuous?

Oreo doesn’t hit S7 series yet and that was regarded as misguide. I mean how do you know if ‘a few’ or ‘two’ new goodies were waiting ahead ’em?

The very good comparison for this would between Note 5 and Z5 Series. Stop wasting my time to write tons of verifiable fact as there are plenty of videos on youtube which you can browse for. Judge by yourself between a Nougat update for Note 5 and Z5 Series. You’ll know what I mean.

Conclusion is Xperia’s updates were miserly, poor! Full Stop! Other than providing a newer security patches and a pure stock android to their devices what actually have they done additionally? None!

This is 3rd time from Sony. First with my Xperia SP, Second time on Vaio Laptop and Now with Xperia XZ. I invest lots of money in various Sony devices. XZ is worst flagship phone. Heating Issues, Camera Sucks and many more. 48k is not a small amount for a phone.

  • Nilesh Makwana

Even in my xz dual it shows the same thing, pretty surprising if its not released why its showing release for xz dual sim.

  • Harish Thalanki

According to Xperifirm, still there are some regions which didn’t get their customised oreo update and India is one of it. Sony please do it fast… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/40cea54deefd3b07b2730a92e1b4c517361dfb211b7dafa94a01fcc53a2efebd.jpg

  • Have some of you found a bug/lag with the launch of the camera in this version (8.0)?
Mine takes a while to activate the camera when using the shutter button, the screen stays black another while, then some image appears but again with some lags…then finally the on-screen shutter button appears and one is able to capture.
Is this blog able to report to sony so they could fix this issue???

  • lolop

Sorry for calling you an ignorant fool, that was out of order.

If you know iOS is developed exclusively by Apple for the hardware they order in you wouldn’t compare it to the Android eco system.

It’s going to be harder for manufacturers to implement an Android OS into their devices because of the vast array of different hardware Android OS supports.

That’s why I am not talking about Apple.

S7 doesn’t have Oreo yet, the Z5 got a major android operating system update and the S6 languished on Android 5.1.1 which is frankly pathetic.

What features did the S7 get when compared to the S8?

What features do you expect the XZ update to get?

How is the Note 5 and Z5 comparable? It should be compares to the Z5 Premium. The Z5 is on 7.1 Nougat and the Note 5 is on 7.0 Nougat. The Note 5 ONLY got Nougat in the first quarter of this year which is embarrassing.

I’m not a fanboy. I own Sony devices but in my opinion it’s:

    Apple > Samsung > Sony

When it comes to updates Sony is way better than Samsung though and it’s incomparable to Apple.

I’ve noticed the automatic brightness (sadly, still no quick toggle) in Oreo on my Perf X is much less subtle than it used to be, often changing several steps brighter or dimmer multiple times without being exposed to different ambient light. Quite distracting when watching YouTube for example.

On the plus side, my 4G reception seems to have improved a lot with this upgrade in terms of signal strength and dropouts – so much so I can use it confidently rather than keeping the phone on 3G like I was. Coincidence?

  • Reddkliff11

My cousin’s best friend just bought new house in Cleveland, and, what’s even more intriguing is that he saved for it by working online for about 1h and 20 mins daily, just by making use of certain guidelines they specified there. I wanted to find out more about it, asked for a website, and they gave me this page
