Sony Mobile has started to roll a new firmware update for the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs and Xperia X Performance, which moves the build number from 41.3.A.0.401 to version 41.3.A.2.24. The latest update adds the 1 December 2017 Android security patch. We have heard of a number of complaints about the Oreo update on the Xperia XZ, particularly around performance and battery life. If this update has improved on these points, do let us know in the comments below.

When will come Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Xperia XA1?

  • Pardeep Sihag

    Received in India also…

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

XZ China and Hong Kong is still on android 7?

  • Nirmal

    I m got in India

  • Nirmal

    Sony is fast

  • I hope this fixes the “phone app has stopped” popup that disconnects the cellular radio for a moment. Otherwise Oreo is running so well.

  • 2sfhim

I didn’t notice any difference or issue on my XZ with the first Oreo update. BTW, is Oreo the last major update for XZ?

  • Michael

I’ve noticed the automatic brightness (STILL no quick toggle) in Oreo on my Perf X is much less subtle than it used to be, often changing several steps brighter or dimmer multiple times without being exposed to different ambient light. Quite distracting when watching YouTube for example.

On the plus side, my 4G reception seems to have improved a lot with this upgrade – so much so I can use it confidently rather than keeping the phone on 3G. Coincidence?

  • JoKat Hidalgo Fuderanan

I just upgraded my xperia xz’s software today and it still hasn’t solved the problem regarding my data on one of my dual sim networks. A notification saying “Mobile Data has run out” still kept on popping in my notification even though I just added load to my network.

  • Piotrek

    Maybe in February.

  • xXEΠDEЯ ҒЯEΔҜXx

Probably, or maybe the next ANDROID 9 update

  • Heeyeon Ahn

It’s fixed. It happened to me every time I updated or downloaded an app, so I’m happy to say it’s gone. Now if this update could fix the Google Play Services app using so much battery.

  • Vjekoslav Andric

Yup, Oreo made my X Perf screen use much less battery, but while on cellular data its using too much, more than prior to Oreo…hope they got it sorted out.

  • Waterbottle1126

Yeah. TW version still hasn’t received anything

  • headshot

I noticed camera improvements, saturated colors.

  • Moisés

Probably 8.1 for XZ and X Perf.
    8.0 or 8.1 for X and Xc.
XZs came 1 year later, I have no idea what they plan to do with it.

  • Piponxs

Yup, my XZ terrible after oreo. Tried repairs with pc companion but performance and battery still sucks.

  • Vaibhav Tanwar

When will come Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Xperia X dual?

  • Rohan

Battery life I haven’t really tested yet. Auto brightness is a bit too sensitive and but performance is better for me.

got this yesterday morning (and the email late last night/this morning) on my unlocked xz (f8331), and so far no noticeable improvements. occasionally freezes/lags hard, battery still barely lasts a day with only moderate instagram checking. still has the over-active auto brightness, most noticeable when walking through a movie theater hallway with the overhead lights.

i only experienced the “phone app” crash once, but the call did answer and continue working, even after i hit “restart phone app”

Funny thing is though, the XZs has the same 820 Snapdragon chipset like XZ and X Performance. In other words, if Sony does upgrade it after android 8.1, then they have no excuse than to do the same for those smartphones! So most likely, support will be dropped early for XZs instead.

  • Yuri

That would be awesome but I would be surprised.

  • Yuri

So true for the auto brighgness sensibility, it is pretty anoying.

  • Yuri

Does anyone know how to activate automatic toggling “on” for a known Wifi network, I know the new feature exists in Oreo but I don’t where it is? I haven’t found it in Wi-Fi settings?

  • Hellsing Matt

Sound tearing issue in some games is fixed in this ofw

  • Luis

    Mine too.

  • Yasir Fawad

I have seen improvements in battery on my XZ. Before the update i have to charge before going to bed. Now it lasts longer than before. So don’t know why you are getting the battery problems.

  • Lukáš Vacek

For me much worse after the update

  • phil g

So happy to see Sony keeping their devices updated with the latest security patches. Especially the almost 2 year old X performance.

My cousin’s best friend just bought new house in Cleveland, and, what’s even more intriguing is that he saved for it by working online for about 1h and 20 mins daily, just by making use of certain guidelines they specified there. I wanted to find out more about it, asked for a website, and they gave me this page

  • Does any of you know if the “Smart Call Handling” feature is still available for Xperia XZ on Oreo? Can’t find it anywhere in settings

  • Alex Schwarz

Perhaps this could be unrelated but…
    Could anyone help me?
I still have Xperia Z5 Dual (E6683), just repaired and installed INTL firmware and after 2 months of use Fingerprint Scanner suddenly stops working and it becomes available if I restart which then after 2+ days of running suddenly stops working again and so on… somebody?

Does this update mean that the KRACK vulnerability for the XZ is now patched? The November update didn’t patch it as it wasn’t the November 6th patch

  • Alex ”MiG”

Still after that security patch my Xperia XZ (F8332) have terrible performance a lot of freezes and I don’t even talk about battery.. it’s disaster. That OREO update f*cked up everything in that phone. Also my Automatic Brightness is so sensitive.. damn… my Xperia looks like a Christmas tree after that. I don’t think they will fix everything, as we already know back from the history of Xperia, all Sony smartphones that got new OS they get worse and no one hasn’t fixed them yet.

  • skrug

Still there, go to the phone app go to the settings> calls you will see smart phone handling

  • Ther9reatSkull

you need to clean install your Firmware .. try repairing your phone using Sony PC companion app

  • Enjelita Pusparini

Anyone noticed an update with the same Build Number came out after upgraded to this latest version? Some say it contains minor changes but I am unsure since the Build Number is exactly the same. Is it even possible Sony releases an update with the same Build Number?

  • Piponxs

    So true!

  • Agustín S.M.

My XZs dual with HK version still on Android 7!! Why???

  • Phil Gym

  • Nirmal
  • Wilhelm-Bernhard Trometer

  • ben bleho

Will there be an other update for z5 series?

  • HiengOng

Xperia XZ1 Compact Received New Update received new update with build version 47.1.A.8.49

  • impasse

thanks, but i’m not going to clean install when this is an issue that should be easily fixed via an update, as i was not experiencing any of these issues before the android 8.0 update.

  • Barricade

Is this site still alive? There have been multiple articles about leaked renders, bezelless displays etc, yet nothing to be seen on here.

It’s a shame as this was a great site for all things Xperia.

  • That’s right!
    Thank you very much!

  • Sorry, out of topic again, but does any of you know if there’s a way to hide that annoying icon from the system generated when apps are running in the background? Thanks in advance

  • epm

I didn’t have any issues when my XZ upgraded to Android Oreo, but this last update is draining my battery life. I have noticed the last days that I am running out of battery quickly, without any change on my everyday average use.

  • Blasse
  • WOW, Really appreciate your help. Thank you very much!

  • Bruno Herrera

I notice a major performance improvement, although however it still is sluggish when unlocking screen

  • Gxost

Automatic brightness quick toggle can be added using third party app, Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings for example

  • Renzo Morla

try to flash a new software trough xperia companion or flashtool
if you dont know how to….
    Google is ur friend

  • Alex Schwarz

Thank you for your reply, pal. But I already resolved it, I just flashed it again to Custom DE, and it works again!. Thank you again and Happy New Year!

  • Abdul Mutahher

It is better to do factory reset after a major update. because there may be remain some old version files in system that can conflict with new version, causing glitches and bugs. so i always do a factory reset after major firmware update.
(security updates with minor version number change does not need.)

    1. make a backup of your phone with Xperia Companion
    2. Do a factory reset
    3. Restore your backup data.

  • impasse

thanks, but i’m not going to clean install when this is an issue that should be easily fixed via an update, as i was not experiencing any of these issues before the android 8.0 update.
