Following on from the Qriocity-based Music Unlimited service that launched recently, Sony Ericsson has announced that a Qriocity video service will be coming exclusively to Xperia handsets from 1 August. The service will initially roll out in nine countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States)
SE claims that the service will present a friendly way to buy or rent movies or TV shows from some of the biggest studios including from NBC, Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. The first handsets to get Qriocity video will be the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. It will also come to the Xperia active and Xperia ray on launch. Other 2011 Xperia handsets including the Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY and Xperia pro will get the app through a software update later in the year. We expect further details to be announced shortly including pricing and whether video content can be downloaded for off-line viewing.
