Xperia ZRSony has unveiled the Xperia ZR (C550X ‘Dogo’) and our previous report was right on the money with the specs. The Xperia ZR has a 4.55-inch OptiContrast display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and 319 PPI. It will be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon chipset (APQ8064 + MDM9215M) with Adreno 320 graphics, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (4.6 GB user accessible) and a micro SD memory card slot.

Sony is marketing the handset as having the “highest level of water-resistance for filming in Full HD underwater”. To that end it is IP55 and IP58 compliant, being both dust-resistant and “waterproof” according to Sony. You can keep the phone submerged in 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. To easily take pictures or videos under water, the Xperia ZR also has a dedicated camera button, something that was missed on the Xperia Z as well as last year’s Xperia V.

Camera duties are taken care of by Sony’s 13MP Exmor RS sensor, with HDR for both photos and videos. The Xperia ZR also has a VGA front-facing camera. Other features include NFC, GLONASS MHL, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2300mAh battery . The Xperia ZR has dimensions of 131.3 x 67.3 x 10.5 mm and weighs 138 grams. It will come in four colours (black, white, pink and mint) and launch by the end of June in select markets. We expect the same phone to be announced as the Xperia A (SO-04E) in Japan later this week.
