Earlier this month, Polish carrier PLAY said that the Xperia Z would receive the Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update by early March 2014. That always seemed optimistic, but a new software carrier schedule from French operator SFR has given its own estimation of the KitKat release.
SFR says that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will hit the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact from April 2014. This timeline is more plausible to us, as we always expected the KitKat update to appear after the new flagship (Xperia Z2) had launched. We would also expect to see the Xperia Z1 updated before the Xperia Z. There is still no official word from Sony on definitive timings for the KitKat release but we’ll keep you posted.
