Some new details on Sony’s new SmartWear accessories have been rumoured by 9to5Google. They claim that Sony will launch two new wearable accessories at IFA 2014 next week, including the SmartWatch 3 and a SmartBand Talk, which will sport a curved E Ink display.
The SmartWatch 3 will run Android Wear according to the report, which if true, would mean Sony ditching its current Android-based efforts in this space. This would be a shame, but perhaps inevitable given the challenge of drumming developer interest into niche apps. The watch will take design cues from the Samsung Gear 2 Neo and will feature a 1.68-inch (320 x 320) display and will come with IP58 certification.
The SmartBand Talk, will be the successor to the SmartBand SWR10 and feature a curved E Ink display. Not much else is known at this point, but judging by the name it may feature a mic to make/take calls, or it may have a speaker for voice notifications.
9to5Google includes pictures of both accessories, although we don’t know if these are of the official products or whether they were produced by 9to5Google. The pictures are labelled “Renderings of Sony’s new SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk”, which doesn’t give much colour either way. Less than a week to wait for official details as the IFA 2014 countdown ticks ever closer.
