It surprises us that many of our readers appear to be expecting some new Sony Xperia products to be announced at CES later today. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is not happening. Sony will use the MWC 2015 tradeshow as the venue to reveal the Xperia Z4 and other devices.
In fact, we understand that Sony’s CES teaser video pretty much entirely relates to its new television range. Sony’s new TV sets include Android TV baked in (hence the Lollipop references). In early December 2014, MobileGeeks spoke of PlayStation Now and PS4 Remote Remote Play integration into Sony’s new televisions.
Earlier today, Sony finally announced PlayStation Now subscription pricing for the United States. It will charge $19.99 per month or $44.99 per quarter to access one hundred PlayStation 3 games. The timing isn’t a coincidence, expect to hear about PS Now integration into Sony’s new televisions.
The Xperia Lounge app revealed that one of the highlights from Sony’s CES show will be a “TV that’s thinner than most smartphones.” There were numerous references to such a thin piece of glass in Sony’s CES teaser video i.e. light enough to pick up with one hand.
We will still be looking forward to seeing what Sony has in store overall at CES, but we wanted to reset expectations for those that were hoping for more on the mobile side.
