A few weeks ago we reported on how little storage the 8GB version Sony Xperia M4 Aqua has out of the box. Our unit had just 1.26GB free after updating preinstalled apps. Obviously, the low level of storage came as a surprise to us especially as we thought at least 3GB would be available to us (taken from the white paper). With most of the apps baked in and little chance to uninstall the bloat without root, it means the device will be compromised in terms of storage for many users.
To provide a bit more clarity to users, Sony Mobile has updated the Xperia M4 Aqua white paper, now telling people that the 3GB of user available storage is “before you update preloaded applications.” We found that updating the preloaded apps took over 1GB of storage, quite a big deal when the starting point for storage was quite low. Either way, hopefully this helps to provide more transparency to users on exactly what they get out of the box.
