If you think only the use of OLED panels would allow you to create a curved display, then JDI has other ideas. It has announced that it is currently developing a flexible LCD called “Full Active Flex”, which uses plastic on both sides of the liquid crystal layer. This means it is highly resistant to drops compared to more traditional LCD displays, which use glass.
It has introduced a 5.5-inch 1080p display that it plans to start mass producing in 2018. Who knows, we may even see Sony adopt the use of these displays to introduce a new design language for the Xperia range next year. Would you like to see a Sony Xperia device using a curved display? Or, do you see it as a gimmick? Let us know in the comments below.
