Sony is set to unveil the Xperia XZ1, along with XZ1 Compact, later today. We are familiar with most of the specs by now, this includes a 5.2-inch Full HD display with HDR and Corning Gorilla Glass 5, Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal UFS storage. It is also great to see that Android 8.0 Oreo will be available out of the box.
Other specs include IP65/IP68 dust and water resistance and a 19MP Motion Eye rear camera with 960 frames per second slow motion video, along with a 13MP front-facing camera. Sony is using its familiar loop surface design with its metal body. The handset will be available in four colours, as confirmed by Evan Blass (see below) including blue, pink, silver, and black and launch in September 2017.
One of the new software features is Sony’s 3D Creator app. Sony is using an in-house algorithm to allow for quick scanning of 3D objects. You will able to capture high-quality 3D scan of objects in under one minute with four scan modes available – head scan, face scan, food scan, and freeform scan. Once a scan is finished, you will be able to share your 3D creations with friends and family using 3D stickers. Seems like a bit of fun more than anything, but we look forward to more detail at the official launch later today.
