One of Sony’s newest Xperia features introduced at IFA 2017 is its new 3D Creator app. The app can be found in the newly announced Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, but the good news for Xperia XZ Premium owners is that 3D Creator will also be heading their way once the phone receives its Android 8.0 Oreo firmware update.
As part of the same update, the Xperia XZ Premium will receive improved camera features including Autofocus burst, which snaps moving objects in sharp focus, so there’ll be no more blurred action shots. The other addition is Predictive Capture, which now recognises smiles, and automatically starts buffering images before you snap the shutter.

Sony 3D Creator app
The Sony 3D Creator app allows you to capture objects in 3D, which takes about 15-60 seconds. Four scanning modes are available including face, head, freeform and food. You can then save and edit your creations, as well as sharing them with friends/family or even get them 3D printed.
Your creations can also be used as a 3D wallpaper, or you can integrate them into the AR Effect app as an AR Object (bring your object into a new AR world) or AR Avatar (see your face on a different body)
The app has won high praise from all that have tested it, producing great results, making it hard to believe that a smartphone app can capture such detailed 3D models and avatars. At this stage, it’s not clear whether 3D Creator will also arrive on other older Xperia handsets, not including the Xperia XZ Premium. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.
Thanks Diogo, Marinko and Yut!
