Sony Mobile will bring wireless charging support to its upcoming Xperia XZ2 flagship. This is the first time that Sony has introduced integrated wireless charging support for its mainstream global model. Sony had previously adopted wireless charging, but only for select models targeted to the US market, such as the Xperia Z3v and Z4v for Verizon, the latter which ended up being cancelled.
The latest leaked picture of the Xperia XZ2 from Evan Blass (@evleaks) confirms that it will support wireless charging, showing the phone in a dock, which no doubt Sony will charge a pretty penny for. We hope that Sony uses an open standard, such as Qi wireless charging, which would mean you could use any cheap dock to charge the phone. We’ll bring you more news on Monday at the official launch.
