Sony Mobile has quietly announced a new smartphone for its ‘super-midrange – the Xperia XA2 Plus. The new phone sports a 6.0-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2160) display with 2:1 ratio, and is the first Xperia in this class to support high-resolution audio (yes, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack thankfully!)

The design looks like similar to the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra models, but closes the bezel at the top and bottom to fit the 2:1 display. It certainly looks quite striking with its diamond-cut anodised aluminium frame and metallic finishing, and perhaps even more attractive than the flagship XZ2 models. It also features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for extra protection.

Camera duties are taken care of by a 23MP rear camera with 4K movie recording and a front-facing 8MP selfie camera with 8MP 120-degree wide-angle lens. The fingerprint sensor is on the rear, as with all other 2018 Xperia models.

The Xperia XA2 Plus is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, with variants supporting either 4GB or 6GB RAM and internal eMMC storage of 32GB or 64GB. The phone will feature a 3,580mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB Type-C.

The Xperia XA2 Plus has dimensions of 157 x 75 x 9.6 mm and weighs 205 grams. The phone will launch in late August 2018 in four colours: Silver, Black, Gold and Green. It will be available in both Single and Dual SIM variants.
