Sony Ericsson’s next flagship may be called the Xperia ION, judging by a recently filed trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Sony Ericsson filed the “Xperia ION” trademark on 13 December 2011, which suggests this could be the marketing name of one the new Xperia handsets to be announced at CES 2012.
The application comes under the Mobile Phones segment, which leaves little doubt as to what we should be expecting. We wonder which of the recently leaked handsets would correlate to the Xperia ION. At this stage the most probable handset is the Sony Ericsson LT28at, which would be destined for AT&T. However, there could be North American variants of the LT22i Nypon and LT26i Nozomi also on the horizon. We should find out reasonably soon as we expect Sony Ericsson to announce some of its new Xperia handsets at CES in January.
