Sony has just announced that it has formally completed the full acquisition of Sony Ericsson. Sony will rename the business ‘Sony Mobile Communications’. We figured this may be the case given that emails started to go out to customers yesterday detailing the change.
There is little said in the press release apart from that Sony aims to accelerate “convergence between Sony’s line-up of network enabled consumer electronics products, including smart phones, tablets, TVs and PCs”. Something also mentioned in yesterday’s email. Going forward, we will now refer to the entity as Sony Mobile, but as a point of clarification we will still refer to the ‘Sony Ericsson’ name for products launched in 2010 and 2011.
