2011 Xperia Android 4.0 ICS updates start rolling out; Nordics first

Xperia ICSSony Mobile has just confirmed that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update has started to roll out for three of its 2011 Xperia handsets (Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray). The update is available as we speak for consumers in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway. Other markets will see the update become available over the next 4-6 weeks.

You need to keep an eye on this Sony Mobile forum thread where all of the kit numbers that receive the update will be posted. You can find your kit number by accessing the service menu on your handset (type *#*#7378423#*#*). Then hit Service info > Software info and look for the ‘Customization Version’ of your Xperia. This update will only take place via your PC or Mac, so there will be no OTA option.

The rest of the Xperia line-up including the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will start to receive the ICS update from late May/early June as per the previous schedule.

we all know that the ICS is going to be laggy on the limited rams 2011 xperias offered.  i think ICS for those phones are a mistake from Sony, and should only have been to the 2012 xperia line and after.  so please for who ever is going to complain, please remember the hardware chock point in your device, and take it easy on giving xperia bad comments.

dual processor and a higher RAM will not have those problems, 2012 xperia owners, you can breathe :).  may god help the single processors and ICS owners.

  • Seeing this post I opened the dialer to check my kit number when I noticed something in the notification bar. Well, a new version! Sometimes I love living in Sweden.

    read my reply below…

  • boosook

oh come on… arc will be updated in the second batch, what’s the problem? It seems ovbious to me that they are upgrading the newest models first, as they are still on sale now.

  • Qui004

The arc will be update in late May/early June…

  • paul4id

Nah, that was the Xperia Pro :P (and still is the greatest!) If you haven’t used the QWERTY then you don’t know what yer missin’! Also, how’s that front cam going on your Arc? ;)

Pure nonsense. I have seen ics running on the flipping x10 mini pro. The phones they released last year will run them just fine. Not as well as the newer phones for sure but still well enough.
I’m a bit upset that older phones are getting ICS before the xperia s but that’s sony ericsson for you.
I hope this is the very last bit of inexplicable madness we see now that Sony have taken over the company and not soon enough in my opinion.
2011 phone owners enjoy…we still have to wait god knows how much longer.

  • Raymond

Gee, I feel so impatient.. Does anyone know why xperia arc owners have to wait till atleast June? Thanks.

  • exFictitiouZ

as an 2011 Xperia user I must say that maybe because we came earlier so we get the update earlier?

Just kidding, the real reason maybe that the work for 2011 Xperias preceded the release of 2012 Xperias

  • recursive

Great actually, I don’t need it so I’m glad it isn’t oddly sticking out in the front, putting a dent on my arc’s sleek beauty.

  • recursive

So can the arc s’ firmware be flashed on to the arc?

  • I have been a satisfied Xperia Arc S user, but i must say i’m rather disappointed with this update. My WIFI has worked like a charm before and now i can’t connect to my WIFI. Other peripherals works  – including my wifes Xperia Arc S which have not been upgraded.

I would not recommend this update

  • So why not upgrade the Xperia S first? Oh well

  • For all people not want to wait and all with unlocked bootloaders:

here you can find version 4.1.A.0.562 for Arc S, Ray and Neo V

  •  Just did a reset to factory settings .. no progress

I guess this is a thumbs down for this update

how we wish it was “first come, first served”.  we had Xperia Arc, before Arc S came out.  how we wish Arc users got the update first.

  • jinga

starting with updates for 2011 xperia line up is a very good strategy from Sony.  SE where notorously known for their untimely updates and lack of attention giving to its older models. consumers were dissatisfied with the company’s policies. on the other hand SE were unlikely to change them …; so the market shares were a gift from the consumers!  we welcome this change!

  • Robtheking

This is not ICS. Spam post

  • Josephcarminenero

  • Xperia Ray

For those who have updated. How’s the performance? RAM? Is it worth updating? Any noticeable lags?

  • Mohamed Mohie

I think the old widgets not suitable for the new UI!!
At least make the background of old widgets transparent.

  • Ranjan

Please upload some video shots of final ICS…

  • Curios

  • Nhatnguyena11

i’ve just updated to ICS, after half an hour of setting, i think it’s really smooth as GB… Thank SONY somuch :)). SONY do exactly what they said with Performance Assistant and App Optimizing . It’s impressive :))
You guys have to taste it :D

  • Alvin

Funny how sony seems to update the newer phones first… I am disappointed… I bought xperia arc the moment it was available in my country… and now Arc S get the ICS first? not to mention Ray,neo V and the one full month wait if sony keeps the schedule…

  • sallak

    totally agree

Relase of ICS update for new SI number is made avaiable from Sony.
Mine model included as well. Thanx sony

  • Update for Arc S, neo V and Ray is now available in The Netherlands. I’ve just installed it and it looks good. I’ve noticed a little bit of lag just after booting, but that became better after some time.. This is a nice improvement and I hope that it is soon available for people in other countries and other phones.

  • Abdulhaq002

I think they dont have ICS for Xperia S ;)… Its strange that they are updating the 2011 family while 2012 family is on gingerbread :p… They may be planing to update Xperia 2012 family in 2013 … LOL
