in Xperia - Japan Models

Sony Mobile Japan announced the first details of the 4.6-inch Xperia GX and 3.7-inch Xperia GX last week, however there were a number of details missing. This morning NTT DoCoMo has revealed the full details on both handsets at its Summer launch event. Most of the details we exclusively broke last week including a glowing logo, removable battery and July launch for the Xperia GX and August launch for the Xperia SX.

The chipset to appear in both phones is confirmed as the 1.5GHz dual-core MSM 8960 Snapdragon S4 and both will also come with a microSD card slot. The full specs of the Xperia GX can be found here and the Xperia SX is here.

Glowing Logo!! I want this so bad! My Sony TV (X3500) has also a glowing logo and its awesome.

Well, I’m disappointed by the lack of SDXC support and (supposedly) the GX doesn’t have HDMI. The GX DOES have a docking station though, so many that’s where HDMI support comes from? Sony’s press release last week mentioned the GX has TV support and a special TV mode, so yeah…

EDIT: DERP, Says right there on the specs page linked that the phone is MHL compliant, so there’s my answer!

The Xperia Play and Ars also don’t have SDXC support, but they can both handle 64GB microSDXC cards ;) (FAT32 needed). There is no native HDMI port, but MHL (HDMI via microUSB) is implemented (Samsung and HTC are using this feature for a quite “long” time) MHL is the new standard in mobile devices.

Does that glowing Logo act like a notification LED? Now that would be really nice and useful.

  • blurb8

    Thats a very good idea!

  • Coollead

Hmmm, even at FAT32, is the speed comparable to other formats?

  • Lito_ni

err. xperia blog… “NTT DoCoMO announces Xperia GX and Xperia GX” ??

and um 4.6-inch Xperia GX and 3.7-inch Xperia GX last week?

    you meant the SX right?

  • http://twitter.com/thezymo zymo

AFAIK speed should be no concern. The only downside of FAT32 is that the max. filesize is limited at “only” 4GB

    Oops!

  • Asad Mulla

MHL is not as good as a direct hdmi. Its to fiddly and you need to add external power in most cases

  • Lito_ni

I dont think the GX comes with the HDMI port but the docking does.

here are some videos i found

Replying to this so you see it… http://k-tai.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20120516_532909.html

The 4.0 software includes (among other things) quick toggles in the notification area (!!), notification bar access from the lock screen, location aware Wifi (turns on automatically when you’re in the office/home/etc.), same camera interface as the Xperia S and Acro HD, a visualizer for music, ability to see geo-tagged photos on a map, and the ability to take screenshots via holding the power button + volume down.

Looks awesome! That page is FULL of interface screen shots…I can’t decide which color to buy. The phone should be under ¥20,000 with a 2-year contract.

The phone itself has a regular notification LED (ON THE FRONT THIS TIME, thank God!)  but what you’re saying is also pretty awesome.

How about the screen? Regular LCD panel or Oled?

    Translated using Google:

To 4.6 inches HD “Reality Display” about, easy to read even under ambient light, and sometimes display OFF, adoption and Clear Black Panel to produce a presence fine, such as plates 1 though, the mobile Bravia engine of power to reproduce rich . Vivid LCD by 100% of NTSC color reproduction was excellent, served in rich colors photos and videos, providing a rich visual experience entertainment.

Any one pls reply Weather Xperia SX will available for world wide? I like to take Xperia P or U But am intersted in SX. So any one help me to wait or go for U/P

  • dereknobuyuki

That press conference was extremely underwhelming.
They did have two famous celebrities Ken Watanabe and Maki Horikita but only after an hour of listening to old CEOs go on about underwhelming things.

Ken Watanabe said that the big screens were no problem and he could easily fit it (Galaxy S3) into his hands while Maki Horikita said that the Xperia SX is so easy to hold in her hands. They all remarked for a long time about how these smartphones can make their life easier but I can’t help but think that the SX will be marketed to women and the GX will be marketed towards men.

Both the GX and SX will contain various cloud-based software services such as intelligent voice assistant, email/SNS/voice translation on the fly, photo cloud storage, a music store, an anime store, and other carrier based features that pretty much duplicate other Google Services

  • dereknobuyuki

The units should be available in the near future at the docomo showcase in marunouchi.
I honestly look forward to checking out the UI enchangements to stock Android Level 15 (assuming that the software is based on 4.0.3 or higher and not 4.0) that you are talking about.
