The Sony Xperia GX (SO-04D) has just passed through the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) unveiling some close-up internal and external photos. The FCC material also includes the full 282-page NTT DoCoMo English manual for the device. The Xperia GX is scheduled to launch in Japan in July 2012, an international version is expected for wider release and could be announced as early as tomorrow at Sony Mobile’s Asia Media event.

Only a few weeks away! The Sony Stores in Osaka and Nagoya have started showing off the phone, starting today. I want to check it out, but I feel like I have already too much at the Smartphone lounge… haha.

  • Some unusually tough language in that manual!

“The use of the terminal may cause itching, rashes, eczema, or other symptoms depending on the user’s physical condition.”
“If you are directly in contact with hot parts for a long period of time, it may cause your skin to become red, itchy, or develop a rash depending on your physical condition and also it may cause low-temperature burn.”
“Remove the power plug from the power outlet when not used for a long period of time. Failure to do so may cause fire, burns or electric shock.”
“If the liquid crystal gets in your eye or mouth, rinse with clean running water, and get medical treatment immediately.”
“Failure to observe these guidelines may result in death”
“Clean dust from the power plug. Failure to do so may cause fire, burns or electric shock.”
“Use the FeliCa reader/writer function only in Japan. If you use this function overseas, you may be punished.”
“Do not let the equipment get wet with … urine of pet animals”
“Power off the terminal before you step into a place where flammable gas can leak, such as gas stations… Gas may catch fire.”
“If you cause the public any trouble using the terminal, you may be punished under law or regulations (for example, nuisance prevention ordinance).”
“Failure to comply with any of these terms and conditions will terminate the licence immediately.”

    where’d you find that out?:)

    Where did you read that?

Sure this is the global flagship that Sony sorely misses. Meanwhile the fact that quad-cores are not necessarily better than S4 Snapdargon must have filtered down and shouldn’t be much of an issue. I just wished for a different design that made part of the NXT series. But then again the touch sensitive transparent strip would be out of place if this Sony version of ICS makes use of on-screen buttons. :-/

Just noticed that in the external photos page, it is showing the sony logo on top instead of the bottom, wondering will it be illuminated on the top as well? i would prefer for the sony logo to be on top but :)

    >>> To use tethering, subscription of sp-mode is required.

    woah woah woah!
So, tethering won’t work with mopera u?! We have to pay more for SP Mode instead?

Wouldn’t this mean that Docomo has fiddled around with the source code handling android’s ability to tether?… again?
but then again, the manual also talks about watching 1-seg TV or watching 3D imagery neither of which this device is supposed to even support.

Not to mention the (horrible) docomo palette UI section talks about the 1-seg app and the infrared transfer app. Furthermore, it refers to the wifi tethering hot spot it creates as for being Xperia Acro HD SO-04D. The number is right but I can’t help but feel much of the manual was just copied from the Xperia Acro HD manual.

This is a super late comment but I think the Sony Store phones are the same phones as the smartphone lounge. Last time I went to the smartphone lounge (Ginza) they had only 2 GX whereas they previous had 4 or 5 demo units.

  • dereknobuyuki

demo units says “XPERIA” at the top but PR photos says “ntt docomo XI”. Unfortunately, the words or logos at the top will not be illuminated however the notification indicator is a multi-colour LED in the right corner. (Same as most if not all of their phones)

Since the FCC one is a prototype, I think it’s the least likely candidate for the final launched product.
I wonder if you can scratch off the “Xperia” and put a sony logo on the top, but it seems like too much ^^ and two Sony logos might be too much =P
