New ICS firmware (6.1.1.B.1.10) certified for Xperia P, U, go and sola

in Android, Firmware, Xperia go, Xperia P, Xperia sola, Xperia U

Today, new firmware has been certified for the Sony Xperia handsets running on the NovaThor U8500 chipset. Firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.10 has appeared on the PTCRB website for the Xperia P, Xperia U, Xperia go and Xperia sola. This could end up being the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update due to land on these handsets very soon (bar the Xperia P which already has ICS). We’ll keep you posted when it starts to roll out.

Thanks Arnab!

    What about this one: 6.1.B.0.559?
by the way according to what I know, 6.1.B is ICS and any change in the first three chars means a different version of ICS. can someone please explain to me :)

  • Sami

Finally! make it fast now Sony

  • DeepUnknown

I mean a different version of Android

Good news. Hopefully, it will not take long for them to roll this out.

  • bucho

I’m still waiting for ICS for my Xperia Arc. This is really pathetic Sony. I’m still on Gingerbread..

  • DeepUnknown

Xperia Arc !! Until now you didn’t get it?! I thought all 2011 got the ICS update :-/

  • Kima

Is this gonna be jelly bean???

  • jlin

Sony released ICS for Xperia Arc a few months back. Check to see if you have an update via Sony Update Service, since I don’t think it’s OTA. See this link: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/38387. If your phone is not here, it’s probably delayed at your carrier. Rogers released ICS for the Arc about a month ago, even though Sony has it ready way before that.

  • cerunnos

It isn’t Sony’s fault, they have released it, but the final decision is up to your carrier. If you have a global one, you should have the update awhile ago. I suggest you go to XDA Arc’s forum to search for a way to change your region or just simply flash on a generic-global version if you want ICS now. Many carriers will delay or simply not update phones, this has nothing to do with the manufacture.

Don’t think so, since the highend models are still in ICS, I don’t think we will get JB before them.

What we concern is not the certification of the firmware, but the release date in reality. Certification only hints the possibility of getting new updates, but it could take ages to get released.

6.1 branch is going to be Android 4.0, not 4.1.

  • Mehdi Solamannejad

The latest ICS is 4.0.4 and I guess with the release of Jelly bean, ICS branch is no longer maintained. So with any newer 6.1 firmware, we would get Sony updates, not vanilla android updates.

  • Arnab

    Hope it comes soon now.

  • boosook

I could not read past the fifth word… :)

  • tanat

    jelly bean ???

  • sandeep ravitej

When is the jelly bean for Xperia S……

  • Adrian

I really hope Sony releases this 6.x-version to Arc S and other 2011-models. ICS is laggy on Arc S and this version of ICS seems more optimized and bugfixed.

  • boosook

Yes, they all got the ICS update, now we’re gradually getting the second ICS update which fixes some important performance problems that the first ICS version had.
But if you bought your phone from a carrier, it’s the carrier that must decide wether to release the updates or not. People who did not get ICS yet probably should complain with their carrier or simply debrand their phones and install the generic (no brand) firmware.

  • Sam

    i didn´t understand a word

  • M Usman

7.0.A.1.303??? what could that possibly mean? Jelly bean or that they’ve started with the number 7.0 for the newest models and 7.1 is Jellybean? could anyone shed some light on this?

  • http://twitter.com/BlackSheepOne1 Громак Андрей

    SONY DNIWE EBANOE

  • hnl_dk

this is 6.1.1.B.x.x and not 6.1.B.x.x
so this is not ICS (except if it has been a typo).
But there is no guarantee that it is going to get released, even though it is getting tested/certified.

  • hnl_dk

There is no guarantee that it gets released. It is “just” been tested/certified.
The version you state is the latest released version.

  • ankit

Pls make it fast…. Waited too long for it

  • http://www.facebook.com/jason.fernandez.568 Jason Fernandèz

So when can we expect it to reach India?
Now that it’s approved ,Like a week ? a Month?
How long does it take normally after being approved ??

  • Khoa Do Tran

    But when they release that!!!

  • Nooruddin Khorasi

    I guess its a typo.
It should be 6.1.B.1.10 instead of 6.1.1.B.1.10

Sony is already taking hell lot of time to provide ICS.
SO there is no chance of thinking it to be a Jelly Bean update.

If it happens, I’ll be Sony Slave for rest of my life. :D

  • kumquat

    так сразу? :-D

  • Remco

This is ICS 4.0.4. The firmware is the same number as the one mentioned at the unboxing video on this site. So I’m guessing 7.1 or 8.0 will be Jellybean.

What ever it may be… We’ve to use it nd enjoy on our mobile or other wise it*****

  • Ken

Sony not as good as Samsung their Galaxy S advance withe U8500 chipset is skipping ICS and will get Jelly Bean within the next couple of month, come on Sony get with it

  • M Usman

well the ics on my handset has the build number 6.1. if theyve started with 7.0 on newer models then possibly 7.1 will be jellybean. maybe not 8.0. then again i don’t know lol. time will tell. i don’t know how there numbering works even though i’ve had the x10 and arc and arc s. but im sure that 7.1 or above will definitely be jellybean
