More info on Jelly Bean Xperia update coming in mid-December

by XB on 3rd December 2012

in Android, Firmware

It looks like we will get some further news on the Android Jelly Bean schedule for Sony Xperia devices in a few weeks’ time. Sony Mobile confirmed via one of its twitter channels that “more detailed timings and info on this (will be provided) by mid-December”.

Sony Mobile has only confirmed timings for the recently launched Xperia T/TX and V, which are expected to get the Jelly Bean update by the middle of Q1 2013 i.e. next February. Therefore, we expect more news on the other 2012 Xperia handsets such as the Xperia S and Xperia P in a few weeks’ time. Remember, 2011 Xperia handsets will not be updated to Jelly Bean and we don’t expect a reversal on this decision.

    Finally ;D

  • NORIO24

I hope it’s gonna be a good news!

  • Hurf

Jelly Bean is already on the 2011 devices, courtesy of CM10!

only hope that we wont get an information that we’re getting JB for XS in late spring…

  • p@@r!#

Hey u said bout P and S wat bout U????????

  • huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu i have 2011 phone. darn sony!

  • J XP

I think that the message might be late february for XP and XS! But I think that would be great!

  • kumu

Can Xperia Sola get a Jelly bean

  • Claw

    Like what?

  • 4.2 is already ready for Arc and Neo. It’s stable enough for daily use!

  • APai

ok. so we wait for a couple of weeks to find out that we’ll get it in mid feb ? so, I’m a bit underwhelmed. I wish they updated it directly to 4.2, especially T. S3 already has 4.1.1. so why are we going to get JB 3 months later ? I suspect Xperia T will not see version 5, regardless of how “powerful” the device is, at this rate!

I’m beginning to wonder why people buy samsung . only samsung seems to be getting it right – they update fast, they have removable battery, and their flagship has their top technology, not distributed across half a dozen devices!!! (ok, there are negatives too about samsung, but they have not forgotten some of the basics)

sony, please get your act together.

  • 4.1 or 4.2?

something like we will have jelly been this year and not april of next year… or perhaps 4.2 rather than 4.1?

  • No, Sola, Go and U won’t get it because of 512 mb ram, but Xperia J is getting it and not the 2011 Xperias that have the same specs on the Xperia J

  • ProWeirdo

I see you’re a total ingorant, perhaps you didn’t read anything about Android 4.2 problems like restarting in random times, worse battery life and totally messed up auto-brightness, but that’s real; the only bug which was corrected by Google in new firmware was adding “December” to Android’s calendar. So far 1 bug fixed, good luck if you want to have such a problems. 4.1 so far is the best version available.

  • we will surely have JB 4.2.1 at release, look when we got GB, 2.3.7, and we got ICS 4.0.4 always latest releases, and don’t forget that 4.0.4 from sony has features that came out in 4.2 stock so we will have the better Android version when it comes out ;)

  • lovebmw

after your comment i searched 4.2.1… and OMG

    1. brightness fluctuating / flickering even when inactive
    2. lag with touch screen response (multiple touches required)
    3. lag when rotating (sometimes)
    4. hibernates quicker than it used to
    5. wifi cuts off
    6. kills applications randomly

  • FYI Go is getting it!!

  • I really want to see what they will do with the Xperia S and Pure Android and version 4.1!

  • APai

but does it happen to ALL the devices or at random ? I’m curious. i haven’t seen any device with 4.2 around me. seen 4.1.2 which seems nice and stable.

  • lovebmw

many websites said its a 50/50 rate! regardless, what i dont want is headache with my phone… so i wish they would skip it!

  • Xlash Andraid

SONY developers: deliver Jelly Bean to Xperia J, they don’t do it for Xperia 2011 line.

Still Have My Doubts…… Always Loved Sony Ericsson And Sony Xperia But The Thing With The Upgrades, Its A Mess…

Until We See 4.2 Its Gonna Take A Year Or So….I Doubt It That We See 5.0 On The SonyXperia S….

    Just Wait And See…

“Sony Xperia News” : The Good News Are Here!

Xperia Devices S, P And T Are Getting The 4.2 Update! But In 2014! Also, 4.1 Is Just Around The Corner! Another 3 Months! ”

Thats What Im Expecting To Read From Sony News

    So Sad.

  • Steve Blows Jobz

So crapsung sets are getting the update now even in Canada, and Sony will “talk more” about the update that you can expect in March at best. Yeah, sure people are glad to hear that :D

  • MoHiT

I Don’t Care About 4.1 Or 4.2..Just Need A Perfect Update Without Bugs And Lags..Just Want A Stable And Bug Free Update Like Gingerbread :-)

  • Acro S??? Same hardware……

  • jhodax

they just are going to say “well, as we said, the update for 2012 xperias will be ready in march of 2013 an for 2011 devices the last monts of that year, Xperia s users will have the update in mid of july, enjoy :)”

  • Carlo Lim

I dont care if its 4.1 or 4.2 as long as it is a Jellybean version for my xperia acro s. Also would love to see “small apps” running in my phone.

  • rey

y u no gimme jely bean on xperia s?! :(

  • hatetoxperiahaters

Did you realize that SONY is trying the best for us? So don’t give fuc***g complaints to them! Even I’m using Arc S (which is 2011 device) don’t give sh*t to them. It was also their fault for producing too much models. FYI, Xperia J was coupled with an older processor but was produced this year. Maybe SONY just want to give them the fresh first and the last update for Xperia J. Well my phone has gone through a few update, isn’t it? I still feel happy with ICS because no other phone developer want to give an update to ICS to their device. Example? Samsung Galaxy W, Ace etc. Besides, SONY will keep all XPERIA 2011 phone to keep well maintained with ICS (with minor update). NOTE: IF YOU WANT A LONG TERM SUPPORT PHONE FROM ANDROID, GO GET A NEXUS PHONE!!!

  • gRRRReat!
  • lazarus

haha were just hoping for 4.1… asked for 4.2???? neither 2011 or 2012 get it….sony soooo lame….

  • Gurf

we want a stock rom……not CUSTOM ROM that suck out battery!!! ….im using cm9 cant even last for half a day….fuck custom rom

  • yougenus

Xperia 2011 lineup cannot get jb bcoz ram and phone memory limitation. Besides, project butter uses both cpu and gpu at the same time. That surely drain battery faster! Xperia J got higher ram and memory 4 gb onboard with 1750mAh which quote if with jb, that phone will last a day with MEDIUM USAGE. Xperia 2011 only have 1000-1500mAh and <100mb phone mem???? Genius…

  • darnvid

I think all of 2012 xperia device will get jb…remember their promises? They will give full support to any xperia device for 18month :)

  • lola

    Rumors…Were LOLLED

  • I never asked for 4.2, I said the Jelly Bean update, is it going to be 4.1 or 4.2, you know they’re called the same right? Both 4.1 and 4.2 are called Jelly Bean. For 2012 line, they will probably get it, 2011 is a no. lazarus soooo lame….

  • XS its a bullshit, to be honest most Xperia S successor devices are pretty much the same shit, same processor, same ram, same camera, minimum variations have been done after xperia S, but naming a device different just because they offer two new colours its… oh well.

  • bad trolling, they already said 2011devices wont get JB EVER, none of them. clear enough?

  • 5.0… we dont even know when will that OS will be developed and you are worried about, yes 2012 devices are getting the newest OS available by now, its not a doubt that it might be the latest version those will be able to receive, i just have a question, are you the kind of user that hate those news since you just got that phone and your reading that probably there wont be further updates after 4.2 ? i mean, by the release of 5.0 xperia s would be near to the 2years old so… come on, get over it, technology goes way faster than the calendar.

  • Andy

me2 this fucking music stutter while using browser … argh pls sony a stable and bug free update!!!

    i use a xperia s

  • itznfb

I’m running 4.2.1 on 3 devices (Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7) and it’s amazing. So fast and smooth. As always the few people that have issues scream loud and every has to hear them. The 4.2.x “issues” are not wide spread as some blogs/posts would make it seem.

  • Xlash Andraid

Now, go and say all that in XDA, but if you don’t want to look ridiculous, then don’t do it.

  • haktuih

4.1 ….i think sony doesn’t want to skip 4.1 update

  • Adnan Batlak

Sad for the xperia s users but we will se :)

  • aman

what about xperia sl..???when will it be getting jb update…

  • Wind TV

I’m buying the Xperia acro S and I’m hoping to get 4.2 Jelly bean, please Sony don’t let me down!

  • Sony says Jelly Bean 4.1 is gonna to come out during late March or probably 1-10 April

  • I mean for xperia S, SL, Arco S
