New camera features coming to CyanogenMod 10.1 Sony Xperia builds

in Firmware, Sony Tablet, Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

xperia-z-cameraCyanogenMod has announced that new camera features will be heading to CM10.1 builds for selected Sony Xperia devices. It looks like these features will be introduced to bring the camera functionality more on par with Sony’s stock firmware.

These features include the following: HDR (photos and video), ISO modes, scene modes, shutter speed as well as Sony’s image/video stabilisation. Sounds like some great additions to CM10.1 for those who prefer a close-to-Android experience. Selected Xperia handsets that will get these CM10.1 additions include the Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z. There’s currently no timeline on when these new camera features will hit CM10.1.

Camera features/quality is what is holding me back from flashing CM or AOSP roms. I hope they continue adding stuff.

When u say T that means TX will have it too!???!

  • domiboy7

Is there anyway I can get this on my TL due to the locked boot loader (I hate u AT&T its my phone let me do as I wish)

  • dereknobuyuki

T and TX are different devices… just released in the same cycle.
TX and the GX, on the other hand, are nearly identical except for the addition of an LTE radio but even then, ROMs are typically not compatible with each other.

CM goes to great lengths (and huge amount of extra code) to get their explicitly defined set of devices to work. Unfortunately, if a device isn’t on that list, then it might not work until some hard working developers on XDA fork CM and start tweaking and augmenting it to work for other devices. So there is still hope but that being said, Camera parts usually don’t work as well without the libraries for that specific set of hardware. But don’t give up hope.

Omg. I had no idea how much work actually goes into making the ROMs for every device. Makes me wish I had money to donate.

That’s a great idea; I think the CM team works extremely hard!

Sony Developers and CynagenMod have both made long posts about all the work that does into it.

People seem to think that you can easily just go from one version of Android to the next version just by throwing a few man hours on it (as if you just needed to recompile it and then fine tune it) but that’s totally not the case.

Everytime a new version of Android comes out there are huge changes and undocumented changes and the layer between the hardware and the Android OS has to be rewritten. CM has to do it in such a way that it can handle a number of different hardware configurations and that’s the way they’ve designed CM.

There are a few of these articles but here’s one of them

Strangely enough, Sony is one of the makers that has opened up a lot of their stuff (such as their Hardware Abstraction Layer code) which hopefully makes ROM developers like the CM team’s lives easier. But, that typically didn’t extend to cameras — which is why this kind of news is important for those ROMs.

CyanogeMod. Best in the world when it comes to AOSP ROMs. No fucking doubt.

what about the xperia sp amd the zr?

  • Murad

If CM team can bring new features our phones , why Sony cant ?

  • Guest

To use CM you must have unlocked bootloader. Sorry, don’t go for “fake” carrier discount and buy a fully unlocked device next time.

  • qwer

    no 2011 phone!? :(

  • HardyHarHar

Where did you basically get that?

“These features include the following: HDR (photos and video), ISO modes, scene modes, shutter speed as well as Sony’s image/video stabilisation.”

So are you telling me your Xperia phone doesn’t have HDR mode, ISO modes, scene modes etc… on it?

  • Herman

Exactly! And I thought I was the only one :)
I have tried, but didn’t quite like AOSP ROMs on my Xperia S.

And don’t forget the awesome multitasking Small Apps. You’ll miss those as well.

  • Herman

You know, there’s this button under the comment next to “reply” that says edit.
Could be useful for typos like these :)

Wonder if it’s a joke or not ?! Even some 2012 Xperia don’t get it and you want CM10.1 on 2011 ?!

The reason is quite simple actually:
Sony wants to make profit of their devices and software.

Of course Sony would love to see you buy a new device every year. And in order to make this appealing to you (customers), they give the newer devices more software features.

XDA developers/modders don’t necessarily need to make profit like this.

  • killua99

I don’t get it, this mean cm 10.1 have the same quality than stock ROM of Sony?

  • Cycroptrition~G
